Its very much worth saying - and for other nations to watch - that the UK political transition is peaceful and orderly. No trouble or violence, no mass demos on the day of election, no police at most polling stations, just ordinary people going to vote. Humour is often a gentle weapon in the UK, sometimes used to merciless effect.
The Media has failed, and will continue to fail, America for $$$ . Big Time. They appear to be vying to become Trump State Media outlets when he takes them over. #Politics
#Project2025 is an advanced right wing road map for overthrowing America with a racist right wing white Christian nationalist dictatorship! Do not believe their lies about it being in YOUR best interests. Quite the contrary. Smarten up! Those espousing it must be exterminated from all seats of power! #Politics
Whatever else happens in the coming days with the presidential election, the whole saga will permanently affect my understanding of the culture of The New York Times.
The funniest part of capitalist ideology is that someone managed to convince everyone that "freedom" meant like, the freedom to choose between 63 kinds of shampoo and not the freedom to quit a job you hate without the possibility of becoming homeless.
Okay, if you REALLY want to learn more about degrowth, here is your opportunity: a 700-page thesis titled "The Political Economy of Degrowth" by Timothée Parrique (@timparrique), an ecological economist at Lund University in Sweden.
I haven't read the whole thing yet, only parts of it, but I really liked this bit from the Introduction...
Of all the diverse quirks and oddities one finds among human societies, the fact that the infinite accumulation of money has been heralded as the supreme road to prosperity does not raise many eyebrows, especially among economists. If there is a problem with economic growth, it has to do with not having enough of it — growth for employment, growth against poverty, growth for enjoyment, growth against inequality, growth for state welfare or against international warfare — the more growth, the better.
But what is the point of growth if it fails to deliver on its promises while jeopardising hospitable conditions for life on Earth? This is the paradox that motivates the present study: it is precisely what we desire most that is the root cause of our ills. The system is not in crisis, it is thriving, and that is what should get us worried. Put differently, “growth is not in crisis, it is the crisis.”
Look man, the Dems could put up a literal potato for president, and that would STILL be a better vote than going all-in on fascism like the Republicans are doing. You don't even have to like Biden to vote for him over white nationalist president.

"Deepfakes Will Break Democracy
The fragmenting of shared reality is fuelling political extremism and dysfunction"
"The era of the deepfake campaign has already begun... Rather than stoke outrage, tribalism, and conspiratorial thinking among voters, these new digital tools might soon breed something arguably much worse: apathy."

“Whatever community defenses we must mount on behalf of unhoused and other criminalized people, whatever fascist edicts we must resist, will require us to be organized as we have never been organized before.”
I started looking into Project 2025 so I could be more informed about it and...wow. This is really bad, absolutely horrible. They want to get rid of anything that benefits citizens and protects children and workers.
Our ruling classes have spent the past 40 years shredding the social fabric — imposing austerity, misery, and extreme inequality — while crushing any Left alternative that promised to improve people's lives. They have actively paved the way for the rise of the far Right.
When it comes down to it, the “liberal center” would rather risk handing power to fascists than accept even the remotest possibility of Socialist reform. They claim to value universal rights and civil liberties, but at base all that matters to them is capital accumulation.

On one level its extraordinary that Nigel Farage might think there is an electoral advantage in aligning himself with Andrew Tate.... but on another, it makes perfect sense.
It does have the advantage of clarifying quite what a loathsome individual he is... if he really does see parallels then his a toxic man; if he's just doing it for profile/political benefit then he's, errr. a toxic politician.
"The first step in a fascist movement is the combination under an energetic leader of a number of men who possess more than the average share of leisure, brutality, and stupidity. The next step is to fascinate fools and muzzle the intelligent, by emotional excitement on the one hand and terrorism on the other."
We are now being straight told that conservatives are planning a revolution. Don't hide behind "it cannot happen here" thinking. It can. And they are telling you specifically and exactly that it is their plan, believe them and oppose them.
As we know this has been an election of silences...
While to some extent this has left Keir Starmer plenty of room to manoeuvre, with little opposition in the HoC the question of 'mandate' will be of little importance, until measures reach the HoL.
It will be interesting to see how the Lords look on (obstruct) policy that was not in the manifesto (at all, or only in general terms) when it comes to specific legislation.
Will Lords reform return as a key political issue in 2025!
