Turkey #1... wait, which 3 countries are outdoing us in inflation?

Land_Strider ,

We are all a rookery of crookery penguins on this blessed day.

Land_Strider ,

Same here after all these years and a whole slew of anime. Haven't seen Detroit Metal City, tho. Will check it out.

Land_Strider ,

They meddled with the Islamic countries beyond what befalls them, and they helped the worst of the extremists come out in the instability they helped create.

Besides, being some of the worst offenders on climate pollution per capita by far and making someone else's homes burn to global warming first was bound to create these refugees whether those ecuador countries were stable and tried to counter the local symptoms or not. I'm not saying advancing the comfort of human living is a sin or anything zealous like that. All I'm saying is that glossing over personal and corporate consumption while neglecting apt measures in favor of decoy policies and trying to reflect the blame somewhere else was bound to have the problem become bigger and more apparent.

They reap what they have sown over the last few decades. Trying to put up a gunship and gunboat barrier over Greece while bribing the corrupt Turkish president to keep over millions of Syrian refugees, let aside others flooding illegally in groups of hundreds from Afganistan, Pakistan, Lebanon, etc. will work so far to keep the facade on.

Rising fascism in Europe is not a defense against the religious extremists. It is due to desire for continuity of personal comfort and freedom in the face of reckoning day, by ensuring those who they fucked over can't come near and try to share in their abundance of resources.

Land_Strider ,

Scandinavia... and yeah, when it comes to weather, definitely jail. Global warming is reforming it, though.

Land_Strider ,

Which was also used repeatedly over the course of 3-4 months to gain access via a non-corporate laptop without the IT doing anything about it.

Land_Strider ,

Not what I expected to see from a Bebop fan. I guess they weren't wailing the blues when the doctor whacked their bottom on the day they were born.

Land_Strider ,

Fucking medieval torture mindset with permanent crusade base.

That this lady had no part in it and is actually trying to leave their country because of it, even leaving their families behind. Notice how she says Russians in Russia are always angry and she's looking for a calmer place to live in. The main reason for their complaint is that even though they left all the angry Russians behind, they are now facing a not-so-much bigoted and racist behaviour in a place they hoped to find less aggressive life.

And here we have these guys in the comments foaming "FAFO" in their mouths without any indicator that this Russian person has anything to do with the Russian government or ultranationalist populace, where she left behind, any more than the peace-loving U..S. citizens' being complicit in the mess their military-industry run government's actions.

Land_Strider , (edited )

It is one thing to make an enemy in a state power, it is another to disagree and try to put it behind yourself. You can say many of the Russians in Russia are complicit in this war even if they are not directly supporting it, but many more are just some people making a living where they are born and where they usually have no easy access to leave or not be a part of.

Don't make this topic more harmful nationalistic one more than it already is. Warring states, propaganda brainwashing and violent bigots are one thing and should not be given the benefit of the doubt. The civilians that have no overt or willing part in it but caught in the literal or political/social crossfire are another thing and what makes war worse than hell because you one can't separate the two easily, but one must try.

Edit: Also your rhetoric is the same one Putin has been using for a decade in the annexed and occupied eastern Ukraine. "They are all Nazis over there" is one easy step towards the horrors of war.

Land_Strider ,

The link you have provided with that title and thumbnail (written "Deal with it") is no better than the Hexbear or Russian MOD propaganda you are belittling. Sounding cool or assertive while "shutting up" a (main) discussion point will only resonate with the same type of right-wing nationalist people in your own circle, while you are criticizing the same group albeit in another circle.

I wonder if you ever considered the same adjectives can be applied to you from others' perspectives at a glance.

Note: Not implying any stance here on my part. Just pointing out what can be drowning the discussions while everyone points fingers at someone.

Land_Strider ,

Memes are literally the breasts in my language (Turkish)!

Land_Strider ,

The same for me. Although I could and would game in the dorm as much as I liked, I'd have pretty regular evening walks with friends over 2 hours with sitting for a bit on good places around the campus. On top of regular school stuff that'd amount to 4k-5k steps, these walks would add 5k-8k more on top, sometimes totalling 20k and not a single step or minute would be boring or hard to find motivation for.

Land_Strider , (edited )

Here's a similar scene from CoD 4: Modern Warfare. Instead of actual tyrant-following, shemag-wearing, AK-touting terrorists among the ruins behind the city/district road sign getting bombed to hell by your U.S. weapons of destruction, for some to masturbate to this killing firepower, there are kids and all the innocent people being put through genocide among those raging fires.

I'm not saying the games are a bad influence, not at all. But there is a painful discrepancy between how the U.S. weapons are depicted in use vs. how they are actually used.

There is a thing with liability when the insurance is concerned, in the case where you leave your keys ignition and/or leave your car doors unlocked with thieves about.

Land_Strider ,

I was just making a play with thieves and cops being alike in what they may do around your car. One would steal it, one would impound it, with some coke offering added.

Land_Strider ,

On the one hand, your Democrats need to run ad/announcement/propaganda campaigns about both their new achievements they brought about this term, like all the domestic fund allocations that are at least aimed at progressive and environment protection departments announced by Biden, all the while showing whoever they can reach about the apparent evil aspirations of the Republicans or conservatives, like pardoning this fascist murderer and potential child abuser before he served his appropriate and law-ordained sentence.

I'm not a U.S. citizen, I am Turk living in Turkey. But even news like this helps me evaluate what's what in the U.S. and who's who. Even though I'm living this far away and getting my news about there from a rather low-people count platform like Lemmy, I'm sure there are a lot of people in the U.S. that don't get news like this on their word of mouth or cable tv information sharing networks, so Democrats utilizing all avenues to make this incident known to everyone would be a better idea than thinking it is a risk about blowing the popularity of this guy.

How else would the achievements of Biden and Democratic government reach me without me seeking it myself otherwise? The genocide part is spread all over the world naturally, and if it were just that reaching me naturally, I'd be demonizing Biden naturally, like any conservative.

Most niche communities from R*ddit are pretty much dead here unless you are looking forward to being a regular poster yourself. This rather requires sticking to the lemmy.world open feed rather than creating a custom feed with your communities only, if you are looking to scroll a lot instead, of course. Just stick around a bit, see how often what communities and people reach the general feed, elect to block the ones that feel flooding your feed or not to your taste. Maybe give some regularly-posted communities that are previously not in your area of interest some chance before going on a mass block. This place does have a quality and rather genuine people, but in a limited scope.

Land_Strider ,

I had been using Reddit with my custom feed right from the very beginning. It was pretty good, I got more community recommendations from friends and people in the communities I had subscribed to, and I even started dropping some communities I no longer had much interest in, so my feed was pretty dynamic with popular and niche stuff alike.

I still miss my custom feed and having content in some niche communities, but it has been more than 6 months since my preferred 3rd party app has been deployed for Lemmy and I have been completely scrolling and commenting on Lemmy only, still. Never scrolled on Reddit since July 1, never succumbed to desktop-only alternatives like old.reddit, although it is still my default with RES settings applied if I'm to click on Reddit links for info, since the platform was going to be at its shittiest moments from then on, not just the interface.

Primary news communities are good enough to not avoid them like the plague they were in Reddit, riddled with propaganda bots. Big, general meme communities are the same, without many daily reposts in the same community. Movies/series fan communities are very much lacking, except a couple big fan communities. Tbh I prefer Star Trek communities here over any series/movies fan communities anywhere else, although I haven't watched even one episode of Star Trek so far in my life. Game communities are almost completely dead, but I have started getting my game updates from Steam "Home" screen blog feeds on the library. Big, all gaming and new gaming announcement related communities here are the same as they were in Reddit if I want digital entertainment poisoning anyway.

Overall, fewer content flood of Lemmy with also almost non-existent bot or discussion-disabled loud mouth count feels like a way healthier engagement procedure on this kind of a platform. Writing paragraphs-long comments never felt like a drop in the sea they were on Reddit, even if these comments get only a handful upvotes/downvotes here and maybe a couple replies at best.

Land_Strider ,

Not even closely. It has arrived, butchered all your neighbors one by one, now it is at the doors of those living in American Dream houses. You were just just chilling in your garden and paying taxes to the machine that was axing all the marginalized groups one by one, until this year when they are finally narrowing the "orthodox" line to leave the white liberal on the marginalized side. Enjoy the last vestige of comfort Biden tries to push for the U.S. citizen while straining your conscious with the suffering elsewhere, as was the accepted American liberal lifestyle for a quarter short of a century now.

As for the Europeans, don't be lazy or be apathetic and vote while you still have good candidates. Most of you have abysmal vote percentages because so far your governments kept your individualistic lifestyles untouched. Don't assume you can keep the peaking fascism tide via shifting Overton Window at bay without showing an almost identical solidarity the right wing shows at every continent on earth. The "Russian propaganda, blackmail, bribery, etc." is only the beginning. Iran had experienced the same meddling by the U.S. decades ago, the whole Middle East and North Africa have been experiencing it since early 2000 at least. Turkey started going down the same path with Menderes and American influence during the cold war in the 60's, and not even half a century later we have Erdoğan and even worse shariah-law touting coalition parties with him propping up now.

Land_Strider ,

With how one-sided and not-thought-out-well this comic is, I can't help but come with this point:

Does the lady liberty side not not concerned about the genocide they are supporting? I mean, if you assume the protesters focused against the genocide their own government has a great part in as not caring about anything while they are protesting this one, the most extreme human suffering, issue with a lot of burning passion it deserves and not caring about other things, you have to look at the other side and see they have no cards against this genocide.

Are multi-issue voters okay with funding genocide as long as their own rights are not infringed upon?

Land_Strider ,

It is really, physiologically sickening to weaponize children into taking out what, food? What can the same age children on the other side can do with, choke inncocent Israeli's to death?

This right here is how you create and raise monsters that can dehumanize someone that have been through the same heaviest dehumanization these childrens' own grandparents when through, to eventually make up the most moral army in the world.

Land_Strider ,

Pretty nice. What did you use, if it is yours?

Land_Strider ,

Linkerbaan vs PugJesus. Linkerbaan ratio is 5, PugJesus ratio is 2. Draw is 1. Results at 10pm.

On the serious note: An accessible link would be appreciated.

Land_Strider ,

Thank you. It kinda sounds like there is a lack of information on what Hamas agreed to, for which I saw a post saying release of 33 hostages for 40 days of ceasefire. Can't find it atm tho, the post may have vanished if it weren't backed up with news.

Land_Strider ,

What do you get if you multiply six by nine?

Land_Strider ,

Whatever happens, happens.

Whistles away

Land_Strider ,

Nah, that is a given at this point. They are looking for making a recent excuse for something shitty they will do or be exposed about soon.

Land_Strider ,

On the topic of boots, one book, The Iron Heel written by Jack London in early 1900s before any of the World Wars, really grabbed my interest in how stark it is in surfacing the early onset of a greed and oppression-riddled social environment of tyrannical government mechanisms.

The book entertains the thought of oligarchical entitied in capitalists economies resorting to the bloody massacres beyond non-violoent oppressions they perpetuate to practically have regular people be worked like slaves or be part of the aware or unaware collaborators in the non-violent oppression, all the while in latter years in reality saw openly tyrannical movements like fascism or Stalin's communism saw the violent oppressions almost as first maneuvers.

This latter violent-oppression-as-first-moves has become the boogeyman at the door awaiting if the capitalist oligarchs are destabilized in favor of direct governing via means of production being in the hands of workers or workers having a prominent voice in politics directly rather than being "represented" through lobbying elites or monopolized companies having the last say in their own industries and meddling with other industries.

What I want to say is that this earlier dystopian novel may have missed the mark on which countries utilized the shocking violent oppressions, but it is nevertheless very much on point in displaying the police as "pinkertons" or the literal heels or the inquisitors, agent provocateurs that we see news in these "anti-semitic protests being actually cried out by zionist instigators, shown with footages" among peaceful protests, the abyss people already being present as homeless/down-trodden/drug-abusers-as-an-escape/the extreme form of quiet quitters, corporations and billionaires owning monopoly on a starting industry and meddling with others, media being utilized to call anyone raising a hand in defense against genocides as terrorists, rapists, cannibals.and barbarians while demanding support for literal carpet bombing that is only not called as such because it is spread over weeks instead of hours, etc. in all of these so-called democracies in the west.

Any thoughts on these topics and the relevancy of the book, which I'd say in musing hyperbole that it is criminally under-discussed or mentioned?

Land_Strider ,

This one is worse than a troll. I'd call them a flooder bearing Palestine flag on their profile picture but almost calling for unconditional Biden support under all posts and a lot of comments of the same posts individually.

On second glance at their full profile, this is mostly a bot account utilizing some sort of Cambridge Analytica-style, actually trying to undermine support for Biden through the spammy, braindead "I'm on your side, let's support this thing with the same zeal and rabidness we criticize the right-wing with" false-flag operation on social media.

Land_Strider ,

It has been almost 10 years now since I had first heard about the plot of this film, and I can say 10 years later with even more so awareness and disgust at the capacity for human shit, this plot manages to disturb me as much as it did back then.

Land_Strider ,

And weapons form the US and cheers from Germany to do it.

Land_Strider ,

Yes.

Take the kick in your nuts. It is the only allowed form of meddling with your flavor of oligarcy's succession procedure. Other forms will unequivocally result in police action against you.

Land_Strider ,

Can you give us some enough examples of "western media that is more than America" calling out the genocide with the right weight and not playing the "we don't think what you are doing is wrong but we have to save face to retain the illusion of credibility" game at the moment? Even BBC that first said it wouldn't take part in sided labeling of groups openly said they caved in to the pressure of calling Hamas terrorists in their news about them, all the while Israel was bombing hospitals, housing units, aid delivery locations and trucks, ambulances, children and teens moving back their houses for food, shooting elderly people pleading for their lives?

Fucking hypocrites you all.

Land_Strider ,

Have you noticed how the articles keep mentioning the Oct 7 first, something that happened 6 months earlier, then goes on the passively call "Palestinian deaths" and not tie to Israel directly, in their titles at least? That is what me and all the people are criticizing the western media about. Direct perpetrators and blame is pointed when it is Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, Houthis, or any other Muslim population, and indirect, passive voice is used when it is something the western politicians support. Even goes as far to picture only structural damage rather than how hundreds of people are found killed by Israel's unproportionate, deliberate and zealos attacks most of the time.

Iran launches drone attack against Israel as Biden rushes to White House ( www.theguardian.com )

Iran said it launched dozens of drones and ballistic missiles towards Israel on Saturday in a major attack following days of acute tension building up in the region and warnings from the US and elsewhere about a wider conflict erupting....

Land_Strider ,

Turkey is watching and taking notes about how the US supports full on genocide if you are Jew and doing it. If you are a Muslim or Turkish, the US will keep on supporting the local terror organizations like PKK through bordering YPG branch.

Turkey is researching ways to become Jewish.

Edit: Not just about the US but also the UK, France and Germany that oppresses protests against Israel's genocide and arming Netanyahu with offensive weapons and using their own ships to defend against any retaliatory attacks. Turkey keeps thinking if her allies are the bad guys.

Land_Strider ,

Tbh I remember we even readied sunglasses or similar stuff and went out for partial eclipses during the school days. It just made sense to include this in the teaching.

Land_Strider ,

Which country/language? In Turkish, the idea is similar but the wording a bit different, "karıncalanma" (being ant-y) is commonly used. Same thing is also used for when a body part goes numb due to having it in weird position for some time, like sleeping with your arm under your body or sitting on the toilet too much and having your legs be numb.

There is also "parazit yapma" (making/doing parasites) used for the television thing.

Land_Strider ,

Ah, nice. Sand idiom does not ring a bell, but the "asleep" is quite common probably. In Turkish, the word for numb (uyuşmak) is actually derived from the word for sleeping (uyumak), so just wanted to share that, too.

Land_Strider ,

But you do in assessing proper reaction and punishment to the perpetrator. The wording used to the victim is a thin ice to thread and can be a lot different, completely for good reasons. The wording used to put the perpetrator on trial, especially if it appeals to the jury via public awareness, needs to be very specific, and any deviations from using exact words with right connotations is either used to lighten the crime or make it more vile than it perceptible is.

Land_Strider ,

Man tbh that can work out to be a nice metaphor for OPs situation.

Land_Strider ,

Do you offer a TV channel for Turkish geezers? It is basically their ancestral pastime to watch maintenance machines work. Women are a sinful addition, though, but a silently welcome one.

Land_Strider ,

Also some Balkan countries with Hau are not marked with the yellowish color. There is literally no difference between them and north African countries in how the map pronounces it, let alone the phonetically same countries with Hav and Haf.
