Interesting in that, flipping it around, there doesn't appear to be another country with as large a disparity.

Armenia is #1 with 55% women:

They really started going insane in the 90s with the whole "Hillary Clinton murdered Vince Foster" thing, and it accelerated with the completely ignorant "Tea Party" movement in the 2010s.

What we're seeing now is just the logical conclusion of that insanity.

I also highly reccomend the Myth books by Robert Aspirin.

Reported as a duplicate, but I'm not seeing the original copy. Searched "1,000", sorted by new, this is the only one I see.

As the scale increases, it merits further discussion.

Searching "hajj" and sorting by new, the stories went 14 dead, then 300, then 550, then "hundreds" and now over 1,000.

But it's not exactly the same story each time.

It would be like saying we shouldn't allow re-posts every time Israel kills innocent Palestinians.

A 6th day at 40% pay? Yeah, that's a big "no."

OTOH... a 40 hour week, for the same pay, spread across 6 days wouldn't be awful.

Mon - 7 hours.
Tue - 7 hours.
Wed - 7 hours.
Thur - 7 hours.
Fri - 6 hours.
Sat - 6 hours.

Or however you want to arrange it:

Mon - 5 hours.
Tue - 5 hours.
Wed - 7 hours.
Thur - 7 hours.
Fri - 8 hours.
Sat - 8 hours.

Mon - 6 hours.
Tue - 6 hours.
Wed - 6 hours.
Thur - 6 hours.
Fri - 8 hours.
Sat - 8 hours.

Kind of led me down a rabbit hole...

Looks like there's a 3 volume DVD set of the Fleischer Studios cartoons + the Famous s
Studios cartoons all in black and white.

Then there's a 3 volume Blu Ray set of the Famous Studios color cartoons running to the end of the 40s.

So with 6 sets you get all the original Popeye shorts from 1933 to 1949(!)

Samuel Alito’s Mysterious Absence From Supreme Court Raises Questions ( newrepublic.com )

Samuel Alito was again absent from the Supreme Court on Friday after skipping out on Thursday. No information has yet been provided by the court for Alito’s mysterious absence, which comes as the court is issuing decisions before the end of its term and leaves nothing but questions on his whereabouts....

Along these lines, there's a good comic running right now called "The Last Mermaid".

It's set in a post apocalyptic world that's baked and turned into a desert. The last mermaid survives in a mech suit filled with water and her pet axolotl.

For a second there I was thinking "wait, the guys with the fucked up plastic surgery? Well clearly they have a history of good decisions..." but no, that's the Bogdanoff twins, not the Winklevoss twins.

Weirdly, all involved in crypto...

I thought the first two episodes were fine, but I wasn't going to hang around week after week to be strung along, better to wait and watch the whole thing at once.

That was what drove a lot of the complaints on the other shows, people watching it week by week couldn't see the overall arc they were going for.

My only real complaint was that it seemed to be a giant waste of Carrie-Anne Moss... but maybe she pops up again in flashbacks or something. I dunno, like I say, I've only seen the first two episodes so far.

Out of the Star Wars TV shows, I can really only point to a couple of unforgivably bad things that should have been caught and fixed in production:

  1. The stupid scooter bike trash in Book of Boba Fett.

  2. The really bad Baby Leia footchases in Obi Wan. The first one was bad enough, then they decided to do it AGAIN??!?!

Tendons don't show up on xrays.

Tore my achilles tendon, doc needed to do an MRI. Insurance company wouldn't authorize an MRI without an xray first even though literally everyone else knew they don't show up on xrays.

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

Yup!

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

That was the thing, I needed the MRI to START physical therapy so they knew exactly where the tear was and to what extent it was torn.

So I limped around in agony for a few extra weeks while the doctors explained how they were, in fact, "doctors" and the insurance company was not.

I don't see how this ruling benefits Biden.

The court ruled it's OK to deny gun rights to domestic abusers.

People really think they'll deny abusers but allow crack addicts? 🤔

jordanlund ,
@jordanlund@lemmy.world avatar

The reason he bought a gun was because a drug dealer pointed one at him, continuing to engage with dealers, while armed, is a risk of violence.

This is why we don't allow addicts to have guns.

jordanlund Mod ,

Some folks are trying to spin this ruling as good news for Hunter Biden and I don't see it.

jordanlund Mod ,

Statement of fact: Supreme court doesn't want criminals to be able to get guns.

Abusers are criminals, no guns for them.

Drug users are criminals... what do you suppose their ruling will be?

It's not going to benefit Hunter in the slightest.

jordanlund Mod ,

Did you know the poems of Emily Dickinson can be read to the tune of the Yellow Rose of Texas?

Regarded now as one of the most important American poets, only 10 of her 1,800 poems were published in her lifetime.

An international airline, based in Ireland, with Irish labor issues, primarily impacting flights throughout Europe. ;)

"The flights affected include short-haul flights from Dublin to Heathrow, Paris, Amsterdam, Lyons, Berlin, Birmingham, Brussels, Dusseldorf, Rome, Frankfurt, Geneva, Hamburg, Manchester, Munich and Vienna, as well as short-haul flights from Cork to Heathrow.

Long-haul fights from Dublin to New York JFK are also hit.

"This will impact approximately 4,000 customers per day and 20,000 customers over the course of the five days,” Aer Lingus said."

Treason has VERY specific legal definitions, which is why we didn't see it dropped on any of the January 6th combatants:

US Constitution, Article III, Section 3:

https://constitution.congress.gov/constitution/article-3/

"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted."

In this case, Treason only applies if the people are working in concert with an entity which has declared war against the United States, or is in open hostility to the United States.

Trump, for all his insanity, hasn't declared war on the US, so his adherents TECHNICALLY don't fall under the definition of capital "T" "Treason".

This is why they get slapped with "sediton" instead. :)

Whoever incites, sets on foot, assists, or engages in any rebellion or insurrection against the authority of the United States or the laws thereof, or gives aid or comfort thereto, shall be fined under this title or imprisoned not more than ten years, or both; and shall be incapable of holding any office under the United States.

§2384. Seditious conspiracy

Just picked up "Eruption" - the final Michael Crichton novel. His wife found the unfinished manuscript in his papers, sent it to James Patterson who really enjoyed it and agreed to finish it.

It's... well... it's not very good. Stock characters, disaster premise (monster Hawaiian volcano!), etc. etc. But it moves VERY fast. 419 pages and 109 chapters. On average under 4 pages a chapter.
