Tbh I remember we even readied sunglasses or similar stuff and went out for partial eclipses during the school days. It just made sense to include this in the teaching.

Which country/language? In Turkish, the idea is similar but the wording a bit different, "karıncalanma" (being ant-y) is commonly used. Same thing is also used for when a body part goes numb due to having it in weird position for some time, like sleeping with your arm under your body or sitting on the toilet too much and having your legs be numb.

There is also "parazit yapma" (making/doing parasites) used for the television thing.

Land_Strider ,

But you do in assessing proper reaction and punishment to the perpetrator. The wording used to the victim is a thin ice to thread and can be a lot different, completely for good reasons. The wording used to put the perpetrator on trial, especially if it appeals to the jury via public awareness, needs to be very specific, and any deviations from using exact words with right connotations is either used to lighten the crime or make it more vile than it perceptible is.

Land_Strider ,

Man tbh that can work out to be a nice metaphor for OPs situation.

Land_Strider ,

Do you offer a TV channel for Turkish geezers? It is basically their ancestral pastime to watch maintenance machines work. Women are a sinful addition, though, but a silently welcome one.

Land_Strider ,

Also some Balkan countries with Hau are not marked with the yellowish color. There is literally no difference between them and north African countries in how the map pronounces it, let alone the phonetically same countries with Hav and Haf.

Quit using Reddit after the (initial) blackout over 3rd party apps didn't cause any change from Spez and he instead doubled down on it. Lived without any media for about a month or two until the 3rd party apps were shut down and they began switching over to Lemmy. Lurked for about 3 months using Sync (yeah I know, but a familiar and good interface while other stuff was changing) while deciding on where to sign up an account. I was eyeing a Kbin account as its web view resonated more with me, but seeing the problems it had, finally settled on Lemmy.world. Never had a better place to comment politically leftist to my heart's content and be free of moronic come-uppance style replies made for the sake of sounding witty/snarky on such topics.

Still considering Kbin and/or Lemmy.dbzer0 accounts for the sake of contributing to user diversity, tho.

Missing a lot of activity in indie game communities here, but never going back to Reddit for scrolling. Only following Reddit links if my search query doesn't yield any proper answer forums or blogs.

Our tools of social connection vs their tools of propaganda.

Now fill in the possessive pronouns with either country and change them depending on the specific tool used.

I've encountered these guys all my life. They are mostly small skittering puffy-stretches at a glance, but sometimes they can look like their red headed larger and snake-eating relatives at 4-5cm lengths.

They are extremely soft to the touch, as if a very light breeze just brushed off your arm hair. What I didn't know is that they are like cats in this behaviour:

House centipedes have been observed to groom their legs by curling around and grooming them with their forcipules.

As someone who has been with their family day and night for about a month due to health stuff, I definitely have emphaty with the indecision about the situation.

On the one hand, some types of accidents can happen to anyone due to common variables aligning together and it is natural to chalk it up to "shit happens". Especially more so if the one causing the incident is as surprised about the incident and as cordial as possible afterwards.

On the other hand, even if you feel comparatively fine and seem to be on your way to rather quick and full recovery, you don't know if this will cause later harm, sometimes statistically known to be low as doctors would say a couple percent chance or something like that, sometimes not even considered.

You should sue for compensation without waiting for the "if things gets worse" to come to pass. It will be too late if you wait. Most people would also argue that you should take this as a "never talk to cops" thing so it would be advisable against cordially letting the driver know that you intend to take precautions about future risks by aiming for compensation, considering that it will not impact the driver's life nearly as it may impact yours on the worst case scenario. On this matter, you will have to trust your own judgement and the specific experience of lawyers, I'd say. Not fears of the bystanders that didn't see the incident, attitude of the driver, or don't have experience about how similar things turned out later.

While I do share your sentiment on most of these points, I think this guide assumes the person with the problem is already in an intrigued state of mind about the problem. Them being interested about the end result doesn't change this in this matter, as they are interested in getting results AND learning the steps to do that, rather than learning how the steps are constructed by the working of the computer. That applies to computer-literate people (more precisely people who know how to navigate the front-end usually) who are also not related to computer engineering in any time of their lives. They don't need to know the video player program generates logs, let aside having knowledge about how to read them.

However, the people with a computer problem but with no interest in learning how to solve it and just would like it to work without their effort, which I assume the guide doesn't have in mind as target audience, are the type that a lot of people immediately think of when such stuff is mentioned. I'd agree your sentiment applies correctly to this specific type.

The thing is, and I'm not bringing it to say it is anyone's obligation no matter what they do or who they are, but Bushnell was a soldier. A soldier is usually already not as removed from the idea of death or harm coming their way, unlike most other people. Ideally, they are not readily available to put their own lives in the line, but they are aware the job entails duty and that duty may require more than common resources, hence putting the body at risk.

When you simply shift this duty to uphold justice for oppressed people on the other side of the planet rather than to sit with thumbs twiddling for your own country's military orders, it is easily justifiable to use this resource in line to protect others.

A journalist, a psychiatrist, or many of the other life occupancies have different resources they use and can also utilize as a last resort.

Although your best option is Biden and I wouldn't say otherwise even as someone not receiving any benefits from his good internal policies, Biden still is a fascist.

He has been a practical one, by which I mean he mixes good domestic stuff with genociding halfway across the world, whereas the Orange Jello is a principled one, having done and still aiming to very bad domestic choices and genocidal fascism at both domestic and international domains.

So yeah, fascists keep winning primaries for both parties, but you still have a choice to pick the international fascist over full-time fascist.

Taxes basically become extortion when they don't return to 99% of the citizens in any way. That's what it rightfully feels like in many parts of the world.

Where taxes return to you as service in both good times and bad times, they become an easy way to solve your problems compared to the alternative being pocketing untaxed money but having its service and product value way lower.

Off topic, but In Bruges is a great film.

So many memorable childhood games. Much bonding over Jackal and fighting (or trying to start a fight) in Ice Hockey. Nice solo gaming with awesome music on Gun.smoke and Balloon Fight.

I'm glad emulators exist and work out of the box, so I could keep playing these games without any hassle on my computer even if the hardware has become hard to find.

Biden to Bibi:

"Pal,

Get your house in order already. Hard evidence about your army's war crimes and genocide, unlike your bullshit claims we keep supporting and coercing the rest of the world to support, have leaked today, as well.

No big matter, though. May these weapons find you in good genocides.

Your best fan,
Joe."

This could turn out to be the greatest game ever.

Each Facebook User is Monitored by Thousands of Companies – The Markup ( themarkup.org )

Using a panel of 709 volunteers who shared archives of their Facebook data, Consumer Reports found that a total of 186,892 companies sent data about them to the social network. On average, each participant in the study had their data sent to Facebook by 2,230 companies. That number varied significantly, with some panelists’...

Land_Strider ,

While I don't touch anything Meta (formerly Facebook) at any time, what is the explicit route of data gathering here?

From what I understand, these companies willingly give user data to Facebook, which then utilizes the data to: Use the provided information to match your Facebook user id with the other companies' user id, so it can understand when you made an activity in the other companies' sites, games etc. and show you stuff (ads only if you are naive, or propaganda through engineered post and ad visibility jf know at least about Cambridge Analytica) about it when you are in Facebook.

Is this the route user data follows and is utilized? If so, shouldn't these mentioned other companies including Facebook's and whatnot's 3rd party tracking pixels n their own domains, and also sharing your data to themselves directly be the focus of privacy concerns as they "leak" your user data? Doesn't the most of the blame fall on these other companies, or does the implied blame here that user data transfer is mutual and Facebook forwards these user data from company A to company B in the list, as well?

Almost every nation in the South America, West Africa, East Europe, Middle Asia and individually-located notable countries like Turkey and Mexico recognize the Palestinian statehood, while not officially taking any stance in China's Xinjiang policies. There is a whole lots of difference, more than 7 if you are into childrens drawings games, openly visible in very distinct and legible colors for normal human perception. Maybe you are in a "western propaganda corporate" that can't find the differences.

The question is, do you deny the internationally proven, caught-in-the-act photographs and videos of killings of thousands of civilians by IDF, most of which are children, minors and innocent adult men and women. I'm not even mentioning the after-action reports, which can be exaggerated or outright set up as we have seen in most IDF reports and some Hamas reports.

Do you mean to say your humanism extends only to be used as political grounds for making up a casus belli against countries your Anglosphere (plus Japan and S. Korea) doesn't like and would love to get a piece of, since we have seen what it did to the countries in South America and Middle East in the last century?

I am a proponent of the current human rights and individual identity being exercised in European countries. I wish that level of personal freedom could be exercised in the rest of the world. However, I'm aware of the circumstances in which these developed, including colonialism, exploitation, invasions and slavery and the resulting robbery of wealth of the rest of the world, hiding behind the war machines of innocent science and reason.

What we see from these maps is how your developed countries are lying and genociding hypocrites, compared to rest of the world's utter piece of craps being blatant genociders. Go have your eyes or brain checked, we are tired of your subversive attempts at acquitting genocide committed by your Israeli government allies.

Land_Strider ,

Pointless part I can understand, but annoying? What's more, it should prove what you make effort to post can still get engagement over time, and not scattered to winds.

Land_Strider ,

Hey, we are becoming Westernized.

Pointy jokes aside, Erdoğan has proven time and time again to keep to whatever American interests in Middle East. His speeches are only for keeping face and making propaganda in domestic affairs, nothing else mostly.

Not sure, but lately his sugardads may be shifting towards Saudi and Qatari princes and oil barons, but they like Israel anyway.

Land_Strider ,

The catch is in the title. Google will not back a law that will otherwise completely block them, instead of just making things different for them.

Google will comply with the law, but we all know they will do so in the most minimal ways or find loops to exploit it, even.

Land_Strider ,

Validating attacking random unarmed civilians as an effective political tactic is not a good idea, actually. This already lead to Israel attacking civilians every time it wants some land.

Houthi rebels and Iran should scale down operations in Red Sea, yes. Israeli military entities that are launching these attacks should also be obliterated to make it very clear that it is not an acceptable tactic.

Land_Strider ,

Hard to find a proper house left when the Brit and Italian backed Greeks burn 40% of the country as "scorched earth policy" because they were so afraid that Turks would follow them beyond the Aegean sea.
