Texas congressman won’t stop wearing combat Infantryman Badge that was revoked ( www.military.com )

More than a month after a news report revealed that the Combat Infantryman Badge Rep. Troy Nehls, R-Texas, wears on his lapel was revoked since he was never eligible for the award to begin with, the congressman refuses to take the pin off....

Isn't that considered Stolen Valor?

What's was your favourite fast food product that unfortunately got retired and never came back?

Here, for a while at McDonald's there was a 🍔 called "the 1955" and it was the best, big pieces of onion, an special sauce, buns and big piece of beef with bacon (for Europe standards anyways) it disappeared once and came back for an encore only to be removed again and never return.

The fajitas at McDonald's. They were decent for the price.

At a technical level it's still young and most likely not as powerful as other similar platforms, but on a legal level the instruction set is an open standard and royaltee-free, so it can't be embargoed through licensing like ARM or other instruction sets.

I'm happy to see more openness in hardware.

Do you see the content of these communities when logged out (ex: incognito mode on your browser) or through another instance / the home instance of that community?

One possibility is that the instance you're on "deleted" the remote community, and it won't sync anymore until restored.

We had to do this with a couple of unmoderated communities filled with spam, with an unresponsive instance admin. It was that or defederate completely from that instance, which I'd rather not do.

Sorry, we had some issues related to Lemmy 0.19.4 about pinning and unpinning posts, and this one might have slipped through by mistake while trying to fix it.

It should be fixed :)

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

That's an impressive list of QoL updates, thanks :)

Just one thing I noticed since we jumped to 0.19.4 yesterday afternoon, on a local-only community on our instance it seems we can't upvote comments in a post, returning with the Couldn't find comment error.

Will do, I have a list in fact 😅

All of which still doesn't excuse Tiananmen Square.

Like how we can't tolerate the Hamas attack, which also doesn't justify Israel's disproportionate response.

Or it's your own post from 9 years ago.

On the other hand, I stumbled upon one post with the exact same problem, turns out it was me from almost a decade ago and forgot about it. I provided a detailed walkthrough to fix it. Thanks younger me!

Always consider what you say on Discord as potentially public, since there is no E2EE.

The Israeli army says it investigates itself. Where do those investigations stand? ( apnews.com )

Throughout its grinding seven-month war against Hamas, Israel has pledged to investigate a series of deadly events in which its military forces are suspected of wrongdoing. The commitment comes in the face of mounting claims — from human rights groups and the International Criminal Court ‘s chief prosecutor — that the...

Can I refuse MS Authenticator?

So my company decided to migrate office suite and email etc to Microsoft365. Whatever. But for 2FA login they decided to disable the option to choose "any authenticator" and force Microsoft Authenticator on the (private) phones of both employees and volunteers. Is there any valid reason why they would do this, like it's...

You have the right not to use your personal hardware for work, and the employer must provide the necessary equipment to accomplish your job.

Ask if you could get a hardware token (ie: Yubikey Security Key) instead of using Microsoft Authenticator to fulfill the security requirements. It's low cost and doesn't require a subscription unlike a cellphone plan.

At least in Quebec:

Employers’ Responsibilities Towards
These are the main ones:

  • Employers must give their employees a place to work and make sure they have access to it. They must give them the tools, equipment and other things they need to do their work.

The restored photos weren't in iCloud

As for the photos reappearing after a factory reset of the device, there is no confirmed case by Apple about this ever happening, so I wouldn't take this claim seriously.

Max number of communities modded by one person.

If you look at the communities tab and sort by new, more communities there have 0 posts than have more than 10 posts. It seems like people are just making communities for the sake of having something to control, without any interest of actually contributing. Often times the communities are opposing, so it's not as if the mod...

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

That is a good point. I'll discuss with my fellow instance admins and we will establish some guidelines.

It definitely doesn't help anyone is a community is created for no reason than to be the mod and hope it catches on.

IMO is someone wants to own the community, they need to at least show some effort of contributing to it regularly.

And if all the files metadata are well curated, it's a breeze to find what you want to listen to.

I have a small USB stick always plugged in the car (barely sticks out of the port) and I can listen to whatever I want without using mobile data or having to pair my phone.
