Let me just say fuck anyone who targets civilians.

It's not that they don't work, it's that the work they're doing is not getting paid for what it's worth.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Use the report button when you see those, it's the quickest way for them to be noticed by mods and admins.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Trolling is simply noise and garbage to dispose of when it becomes an attack on the person. It brings nothing of value and it diminishes the value of everything else it pollutes.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Fuck that, let me buy DRM-free movies. We can do it for music, books and games. Movies and TV shows are next.

So are they going to be stopping buyers from buying more than 4L in multiple containers? Seems like that will generate more waste, this isn't an eco-friendly policy.

Linking Fediverse identities

When posting from Lemmy in my profile I can look for all of my posts but when I reply to a comment from, let's say, a Mastodon account is not shown as my post because it was created from another account. Is there any way to link my accounts, at least in Lemmy, to show that all posts from a different account belong to the same...

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Other than linking your account in the bio section, not really.

TIL the dev of Iron Lung, an acclaimed indie horror game, faced significant backlash over increasing the price from $6 to $8 ( www.ign.com )

Then, responding to those who have said he’s “only doing this for the money", Szymanski tweeted: “Yes, no fucking shit. I make games for a living. If I didn't want to earn money from them I wouldn't charge money for them.”...

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Meh, it's two dollars and the dev is an indie, at least it doesn't go towards filling the pockets of a large publisher.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Nah, the best way is to blackhole it. Ignore it even exists and it will crash and burn into obscurity.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

They target the most common denominator. Once EVs are everywhere, look at the chargers getting filled with ads.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Fast charging is constantly improving though, I wouldn't be surprised if we reach a point where EV charging improves to a point where it takes roughly the same time as charging an ICE vehicle in the 2030s.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

They need to siphon more data before they start the targeted advertising.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Tell them to fuck off and that they're illegally using the DMCA on a file where the copyright owners themselves offer BitTorrent as a distribution method.

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Only the copyright holder can do this. Cmon Canonical, tear them a new one.

Roku explores taking over HDMI feeds with ads ( www.lowpass.cc )

Roku is exploring ways to show consumers ads on its TVs even when they are not using its streaming platform: The company has been looking into injecting ads into the video feeds of third-party devices connected to its TVs, according to a recent patent filing.  ...

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Any company trying to use the HDMI-CEC protocol in such a subversive manner should lose their license to the HDMI standard IMO.

Would have preferred an account straight on Mastodon but it's a step forward nonetheless.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Most instances are defederated from Threads though.

A law is a strong as its enforcement. Without enforcement, it's just political posturing.

Imagine being at the 97,618th floppy and it's the one that was degaussed by your mom who stuck it to the fridge with a magnet.

Who's gonna be the next one with the dunce cap?

It seems like the author cannot reconcile that positive masculinity cannot simultaneously mean to be a good person who has a satisfying, meaningful life.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

It's not currently possible to follow individual users on Lemmy. Even if the features shows up, the consensus among Lemmy instance admins right now is to not federate with Threads.

You can do so through Mastodon ex: https://mastodon.social/@zuck@threads.net

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

One could use one of the Lemmy instance dedicated at mirroring reddit (ex: https://lemmit.online/) as a workaround I suppose.

The carrier can still roughly triangulate your position based on the signal strength. Not much you can do on that front but to go in airplane mode if you don't want to be tracked through the cell towers.

James Comer: Please come testify for your own impeachment.
Joe Biden:

Yeah, Joe has no reason to testify in this obvious trap and give the Republicans more munitions for their propaganda machine.

Pseudoscience and quackery is causing immense damage.

I need to follow specific users on Mastodon to tailor my experience. On Lemmy, I follow entire communities where people can engage, all grouped by posts. It feels way less chaotic.

I know I could follow tags on Mastodon, but IMO their discoverability is even worse than communities, and if someone decides to spam a tag with irrelevant content there's not much I can do but to block the account.

With communities, there's at least some moderation happening.

But then maybe it's my own bias, I always preferred interacting on Reddit vs Twitter.

I think Quill (previously known as InkBox) would be as close as you can get.

As a nail biter, the lack of nails made them hard to use for, and I guess they're better than nothing.

Thankfully rechargeable batteries and much better now, and a separate battery tester works better IMO.

Let me laugh if Blizzard's TOS change is because of a security breach they haven't disclosed yet.

That one should help, and AFAIK doesn't contain any channels that would be considered illegal.

Do you need to download an anti-virus for Android?

So my workplace is mostly iPhone users and someone asked me what kind of antivirus software I used on my Android, and I said "none" and he flipped out about how unsafe it was. Other people chimed in saying how all androids need antivirus apps and I've never heard of such a thing. I do have ad-blockers and a VPN but never...

mp3 ,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Not really, as long as you stick to reasonably well-known apps and sources (Google Play Store, F-Droid).

And I'd rather use mobile websites with uBlock Origin in Firefox fornAndroid than using the mobile apps that are infested with trackers and ads.

There are corporate security solutions and monitoring available for iOS (ex: CrowdStrike Falcon which I handle at work) but since there are privacy implications, it cannot be installed with full privileges unless the phone is registered to the business in Apple Business Manager and set in supervised mode.

Four years ago on my original account when I discovered it. I participated once in a while in parallel to Reddit, then when Spez shat the bed I removed myself from modding any Reddit communities and logged off for good.
