"There's no such thing as climate change," said nobody who pays for homeowner's or renters insurance. Meanwhile, some politicians, legislators and fossil fuel interests deny its existence and cause great harm — mental, physical, financial — to constituents. That's fine. 🙃😕

This is a very good OpEd. Check out the links, also.

Our modern commercialized celebration of candy, flowers, gift certificates, and lavish meals at restaurants bears little resemblance to the original intent of Mother's Day. This is the proclamation that Julia Ward Howe wrote in 1870, which explains, in her own impassioned words, the goals of the original holiday...

Arise, all women who have hearts, whether your baptism be that of water or of tears! Say firmly: “We will not have great questions decided by irrelevant agencies, our husbands shall not come to us, reeking with carnage, for caresses and applause.

“Our sons shall not be taken from us to unlearn all that we have been able to teach them of charity, mercy and patience. We women of one country will be too tender of those of another country to allow our sons to be trained to injure theirs.”

From the bosom of the devastated earth a voice goes up with our own. It says, “Disarm, disarm! The sword is not the balance of justice.” Blood does not wipe out dishonor nor violence indicate possession.

As men have often forsaken the plow and the anvil at the summons of war, let women now leave all that may be left of home for a great and earnest day of counsel. Let them meet first, as women, to bewail and commemorate the dead. Let them then solemnly take counsel with each other as to the means whereby the great human family can live in peace, each learning after his own time, the sacred impress, not of Caesar, but of God.

In the name of womanhood and of humanity, I earnestly ask that a general congress of women without limit of nationality may be appointed and held at some place deemed most convenient and at the earliest period consistent with its objects, to promote the alliance of the different nationalities, the amicable settlement of international questions, the great and general interests of peace.

If you want Putin to completely crush Ukraine, don't vote for Biden. Let Trump win.

Trump installed his daughter-in-law and a guy named Whatley to run the Republican party. Now Whatley has listed Ukraine as an "aggressive adversary" of the US, along with China and Iran.

I'm only amazed at how open he's being about this. The alliance between Putin and Trump against Ukraine has been clear for a long time.

In case you forget, in 2019 the House of Representatives released a report saying

"The impeachment inquiry has found that President Trump, personally and acting through agents within and outside of the U.S. government, solicited the interference of a foreign government, Ukraine, to benefit his reelection. In furtherance of this scheme, President Trump conditioned official acts on a public announcement by the new Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, of politically-motivated investigations, including one into Joe Biden, one of Trump's domestic political opponents. In pressuring President Zelenskyy to carry out his demand, President Trump withheld a White House meeting desperately sought by the Ukrainian President, and critical U.S. military assistance to fight Russian aggression in eastern Ukraine."

Zelenskyy didn't knuckle under and the rest is history.

and the end of . If anyone thinks that ceding the next Presidential election to any who has shown interest in being , let alone will see their wishes fulfilled (e.g., Gaza ceasefire, weapons to Ukraine, UBI, more DEI, racial equity & justice, etc...), they're wrong.

And those uncommitteds are skewing polls toward trump. That influences voters. Another bad move.

An early career female researcher, whom I even hardly know, approached me at a meeting and said that she doesn't want to be (so successful) like me, because they plan to have kids in a couple of years.

Over the years, my US-based clients have been less tolerant (IMO) of "kid stuff" (e.g., emergency doctor visits, etc.) whether they are F or M, than European- or Asian-based clients.

But I never walked into a consult (wife is a professor of surgery) or meeting and had anyone ask me to get them a coffee! 😳

That out of the way, how about an annual (1 time/year only) national (run by US government) lottery — so a big pot) where proceeds go to an education/vocational training pool — and every child in US gets a share at birth. $ grows & is used btwn ages 18-25.
