Came a across a large flock of cedar waxwings feasting on last year's crab apples the other morning. I find photos of cedar waxwings difficult to edit and it's hard to do these gorgeous birds justice with a photo. I was fortunate to have had plenty of opportunities that morning and took (way too) many photos. I'll post more as I'm able to slog through them all.

    Do you prefer or to accompany AI-created images?

    Chess Grandmaster Anna Muzychuk refuses to play in Saudi Arabia and says: "In a few days, I will lose two world titles, back to back." Because I decided not to go to Saudi Arabia. I refuse to play by special rules, to wear abaya, to be accompanied by a man so I can leave the hotel, so I don't feel like a second class person.

    This lovely dwarf iris in my friend's garden actually belonged to me at one time. When I moved in 2008 I no longer had access to a garden. Before I moved out I invited friend's over to collect plants that they may want for their garden. I'm always astonished how long-lived plants are and its wonderful to see this little guy still going 16 years later.

Irises have three petals that extend vertically from the flower's base and three sepals the extend up and out from the base. On each sepal there is a central colored patch or stripe called a "signal" that often has furry appearance and leads down into the flower's interior. In this case the petals and sepals are purple and the signals are vivid orange-yellow while white and purple mottling on either side. Typically, irises are several feet tall but this dwarf variety is only 5-7 inches tall.

    It's really dark, the #AltText will describe what you can't see.
    I don't like bright lights, especially in the morning. The only light I have, is a 12v desk lamp and the screen glow. Teddy is a #TuxedoCat but by night, all #cats are black. He's my proof reader & puppy checker.

    The PC monitor has its own shelf, and he rests his chin on it to make it easier to read. He's going on to university in the Fall. So smart 🤓

    There's a strong tradition on here that you should add alt text descriptions to any images, videos or audio files you attach to a post. These descriptions are important because they make attachments accessible to blind and/or deaf people

    However, some people can't write alt texts due to their own disabilities. If that's the case, they can include the tag #Alt4Me in their post to request help. Others who want to help can reply with an alt text description and the tag #Alt4You.

    When I was a kid, lots of robins, daffodils, and dandelions meant spring was here and winter was finally over. Cotton-tail rabbits have brown fur with white mottling and a white, cotton-ball-like tail. Cottontails have typical rodent features (large, whiskered muzzles, large eyes, larger back feet, etc.) with the exception of their ears which are proportionally larger/longer than other rodents.

    This is common hepatica or liverwort (Anemone hepatica aka Hepatica americana seems likely). It is a native to woodlands in the Northern Hemisphere. I found this little clump last spring along a woodland trail and it was my first encounter with the species. I think it's just delightful and hope to see it again this spring.

    I mentioned this past week that we may have two active eagle nests this year. I've known about one nest for three years now but last year on the trail people kept telling me about another location. I finally found it👇 and plan on monitoring both this year as much as I can to be on the lookout for chicks. Typically, I see eagles around the nest when the nest is being used so this pic is a good omen👍.

The nest is made up of large branches and is wide and deep enough for the eagle to fit comfortably with plenty of room to spare. Adult eagles are typically around two and a half feet tall with a wingspread of six to seven feet. Just a guess but the nest looks as though it may be roughly four to six feet wide and four to six feet tall. Bald eagles have brown body feathers, white head and tail feathers, clear, light yellow-green eyes with large pupils, yellow-orange beaks that curve downward to a point, yellow-orange legs, and yellow-orange feet that end in sharp black talons.
