Came a across a large flock of cedar waxwings feasting on last year's crab apples the other morning. I find photos of cedar waxwings difficult to edit and it's hard to do these gorgeous birds justice with a photo. I was fortunate to have had plenty of opportunities that morning and took (way too) many photos. I'll post more as I'm able to slog through them all.

The waxwings is facing the camera with its head lifted up and to the left and is in the process of grabbing and plucking a desiccated crab apple with its opened beak. Cedar waxwings have tan body feathers with pale yellow bellies, dark tan upper wing feathers, grey lower wings feathers often with bright red "wax" tips, grey tail feathers with bright yellow "wax" tips and white under feathers, tan head feathers with a black mask that extends across the top beak and across each eye, black beaks, legs, and feet, and a large crest on the top of the head that can be raised and lowered. In this lighting the waxwings brown-red eye color is visible. Often the eyes appear as dark and the mask making it appear like a blindfold rather than a mask.
