Fuzzy faces:

Another ELEPHANT HAWK-MOTH came to visit, as did a mint FIGURE OF EIGHTY - a remarkably marked moth.

As as well as the conventional shots, I wanted to show you their cute fuzzy faces. The EHM in particular has the most elegant colouring and shape from above, yet the goofiest of cross-eyed faces. 😅 Adorable.

    Much warmer last night and a few more came out to play. Finally, my first muppet-coloured ELEPHANT HAWK-MOTH and a delicate (if slightly battered) SWALLOW-TAILED of 2024 ... and just for good measure, a SPECTACLE with the biggest mohican you've ever seen on a moth hilariously clearing for take-off...

    Overhead shot of a large, delicate, flat tissue paper moth in very pale lemon. It looks very delicate. It has a furry head with a bald patch where it is ageing. The forewings are triangular with the apex meeting at the head, so one side of the triangle appears like a top wing edge. The forewings are shorter than the hindwings, so the hindwings poke out very visibly beneath. Each have a point with two black dots so that it resembles a bird face but the effect is to create a very, very, shallow fork of the wing like a swallow's tail. The forewings have two orange brown stripes stretching from one side of the triangular wing to the other, but because the apex is at the head, the stripes look vertical. In between each stripe is a very short stripe of the same colour, barely a third of the length.

    Black and white photography showing a section of a Rover Mini Cooper car produced in 1994, which I have owned for several years. The car has undergone an absolutely complete restoration and the photo shows the branding moment. I have just applied stickers in the form of stripes on the bonnet of the car at the front and on both sides of the body lengthwise. These stickers are typical to this car only.

    A common scene this time of year along the trail at #TerryTrueBlood Recreation Area.

    In fact, I believe this is my third year in a row for catching a photo of a dickcissel singing its heart out atop a color-coordinated mullein inflorescence.

This variety of mullein produces a flower spike that towers above the plant. The flowers have five yellow, overlapping petals that form a shallow cup around the yellow center.

    a large angular-winged moth on the back of fingers. Its wingspan covers all four fingers. It is largely grey with a black head and some dark marking on the inner edge of its forewings. Its wings are large and a little clothes hanger shape, initially slope away from the head before forming a square shape at the bottom wing edge, and then sloping sharply hack up to the head. It has two creamy, feathered antennae. The background is blurred green vegetation.

    Cherry on top … not only did we have the excitement of seeing our first American Oystercatcher chick but we also had the fun of watching one of the parents fly away and bring back its breakfast. Though we believe it was still hungry from the way it stared at the sand after finishing the proffered morsel. Collage details in .

    I built possibly the earliest same-tab tool for getting AI image descriptions in Aug 2022, using a then newly updated Microsoft AI API. I listened to Disabled folks about it. I've payed close attention to the subject since.

    My criticisms of @mozilla plans for Firefox built in AI alt text generation aren't because of knee-jerk AI hatred or some ignorance. They are because I understand this to a breadth and depth extremely rare and I want acknowledgement of major issues being ignored 🧵…

That context has layers, whether it's the text on the post next to the image, the immediate conversation in which it appears, or the social conversation that it is a part of. All of that context informs what details are the most important to include and how those details are described. #Al has none of that context, and usually just lists things in the image. It can be a tool, but it's not good enough alone.
