Another ELEPHANT HAWK-MOTH came to visit, as did a mint FIGURE OF EIGHTY - a remarkably marked moth.
As as well as the conventional shots, I wanted to show you their cute fuzzy faces. The EHM in particular has the most elegant colouring and shape from above, yet the goofiest of cross-eyed faces. 😅 Adorable.
Much warmer last night and a few more #moths came out to play. Finally, my first muppet-coloured ELEPHANT HAWK-MOTH and a delicate (if slightly battered) SWALLOW-TAILED of 2024 ... and just for good measure, a SPECTACLE with the biggest mohican you've ever seen on a moth hilariously clearing for take-off...

That's great, thank you Richard! I just try to think what a glance at the image would show a sighted person and try to briefly put it into words. Many people will only share image posts with #AltText and I think that @FediTips probably has a good link to help with this.
Have a great evening!
A common scene this time of year along the trail at #TerryTrueBlood Recreation Area.
In fact, I believe this is my third year in a row for catching a photo of a dickcissel singing its heart out atop a color-coordinated mullein inflorescence.

A two-panel meme featuring characters from “Star Trek: The Next Generation.”
In the first panel, Commander Riker is looking at Counselor Troi and says, “I’d like to have kids one day.”
In the second panel, Counselor Troi responds with a serious expression, saying, “Maybe two days, but that’s it.”
Both characters are seated at a table in their Starfleet uniforms, with Riker in a red uniform and Troi in a teal one. The background shows the interior of the starship. The text on the images is placed in speech bubbles, and there is a watermark on each panel that reads “Riker’s Beard.”
A screenshot of a social media post featuring a tweet and a reply, along with a photo of a restaurant sign.
The original tweet by “yves adele fartlow” (@vogon) reads: “we finally have a worthy successor to all of those places that used to be called A Plumber, AA Plumber, AAA Plumber so they showed up first in the yellow pages.”
The reply by “Alicia Tatone” (@AliciaTatone) reads: “Big brain business name” followed by a brain emoji.
Below the tweets, there is a photo of a restaurant sign that reads: “THAI FOOD near me.” The sign is attached to a building with a brick facade and has a yellow font with a small icon on the left side resembling a bowl of food. The background shows windows and a fire escape.
In the top panel, a character resembling God, depicted as an elderly man with a white beard and hair, is holding a box. He looks thoughtful and says, “Hmm… What should I do with these spare parts?”
In the bottom panel, there is a platypus, a creature known for its unusual combination of features like a duck bill, beaver tail, and otter feet. The implication is that God used the “spare parts” to create the platypus.
Germany’s AfD is so extreme it was kicked out of the far-right grouping in the European Parliament last month, but Elon Musk thinks their policies “don’t sound extremist.” That’s because he’s also a fascist.
And when I read this I couldn't help myself...
I logged in and replied...
Nobody reads my stuff over there, I'm almost invisible, but I had to reply
Every day, as a foreigner here, in Germany I am shocked to see how a country drifts into extremes and, unfortunately, this is often not even meant in a bad way by many.
But then they become tools of real fascists and don't realize how they are being manipulated
It is so sad.....
Cherry on top … not only did we have the excitement of seeing our first American Oystercatcher chick but we also had the fun of watching one of the parents fly away and bring back its breakfast. Though we believe it was still hungry from the way it stared at the sand after finishing the proffered morsel. Collage details in #AltText.
I built possibly the earliest same-tab tool for getting AI image descriptions in Aug 2022, using a then newly updated Microsoft AI API. I listened to Disabled folks about it. I've payed close attention to the subject since.
My criticisms of @mozilla plans for Firefox built in AI alt text generation aren't because of knee-jerk AI hatred or some ignorance. They are because I understand this to a breadth and depth extremely rare and I want acknowledgement of major issues being ignored 🧵…
