We watched this young Laughing Kookaburra for a while, hoping for a shot with some exciting prey. It swooped down from this hunting spot a few times, but for the most part I think it got to eat mud and bark (as evidenced by the beak-tip decorations)
The young birds have entirely black beaks, and what would be black features on the adult's face are brown
Hopefully it had better luck later, without our audience
Soon!!! Spring sees the male Northern Red Cardinal songbird, perched conspicuously in the Lilac bush just starting to leaf out. The male Cardinal is unmistakable, even from a distance, with it's vibrant, bright crimson plumage.

As the world gazes upon the #Arctic, it sees a delicate ecosystem, home to diverse #wildlife & indigenous cultures that have thrived in harmony with nature for millennia.
However, beneath its frozen surface lies a wealth of resources—from rare minerals to fossil fuels—useful for future innovations & economic prosperity.
So, the question remains: at what cost does progress come, and are we prepared to pay the price?
The sound of Spring Peeper frogs’ mating calls that I heard on my bike ride tonight.
What I love about this is that this vernal pool is a kettle lake created at the end of the last ice age and you know the frogs doing this tonight are descended from thousands of generations of these frogs who have done this same ritual in the same spot every year since the ice melted. #frogs#nature#wildlife#photography#wetlands
