My name is Marvin and I live in Bielefeld (Germany) currently working as a #sysadmin at a small ISP. I also self-publish books from time to time.

Most of my free-time, however, is spent doing #photography — mostly of #birds and, sometimes, other types of wildlife.

I will mostly be posting photos of birds or other bird-related content on this account, but I will also — at times — post stuff about languages and computers. I post mainly in English and German.

An here's another photo of the adult Little Grebe carrying ... something in its beak. I find them quite pretty in their breeding plumage, despite the rather muted colour palette.

Its neck is brown whereas the rest of its body is mostly black / grey with a little bit of white on its very fluffy but barely visible tail. Its beak is pointy and the underside has a white spot.

    Another photo of the male Common Merganser I saw today. I never know how to take photos of these guys, they’re too contrasty 😅

    A male Common Merganser photographed in profile swimming in the water. Its head is mostly black with few iridescent colours and its beak is curved at the tip and red. The rest of its body is mostly white with some of its wing feathers being black. The contrast between the white body and black head make it difficult for me to properly expose the bird.

    Does anyone know of a good (preferably free) tool / script that can sort photos into folders for year and month automatically by using the photos’ metadata? Seems like something that should be relatively simple.

    Long-Tailed Tit showing off the long tail after which it is named.

    A photo of a Long-Tailed Tit with its tail in the air. The tail is almost as long (or perhaps even longer) than the body of the bird. It is a small bird that looks like a tit (but technically isn't). Its long tail feathers are black and white and so are the rest of its body feathers. It has a yellow ring around its eyes. The feathers look very ruffled.

    Long-Tailed Tit collecting some nesting material.

    A Long-Tailed Tit on a branch holding some fluffy and mossy material in its beak for building a nest. It is a tiny bird with a black and brown back, white face with black spots, a very long tail that is almost as big as its body and a tiny beak. It also has a yellow half ring around the upper part of its eye.

    @loren omg, tiny froggyyyy! We have a lot of these hopping around on the paths here in the summer, you always have to be really careful not to step on them. I haven't seen one of ours show off like this, though haha

    These guys are always a delight to see. A Long-Tailed Tit I saw during a very cold (by our standards, anyway) late morning walk today.
