Happy pride month y'all if you don't know this is Wendy Carlos born and raised in Rhode Island studied physics at Brown University before going to Columbia and New York to study composition. She helped in the development of the Moog synthesizer developed by Robert Moog .
She did an album called switched on to bach, which I highly recommend & personally own on vinyl. She as well did the soundtrack for A clockwork Orange, the shining and Disney's Tron. In 1979, Carlos raised public awareness of transgender issues by disclosing she had been living as a woman since at least 1968, and in 1972 had undergone sex reassignment surgery.
I encourage you to look up more on her & her work. FYI some of her content ( older vinyl some articles)may be under her dead name Walter Carlos .❤️🏳️🌈🤠
The ethics committee of The International Chess Federation expels the national Russian Chess Federation, for having seriously damaged the reputation of international chess, by organising chess turnaments in illegally occupied territories.
This means, the Russian organisers of chess cannot participate in international events.
"... she provoked anger when she dismissed gender-critical feminists as “50-year-old Karens”, she says she is proud for “sticking up for trans people. I think that I will look back on it in years to come and think: ‘Fair play to you, that wasn’t easy, it wasn’t popular, but it was the right thing.'
... she says it is the responsibility of politicians to challenge “people whipping up hatred and spreading disinformation"
Apparently Kemi Badenoch reckons trans women should be using the men's toilets, and the Tories plan to legislate it via Equality Act 2010 changes to clarify 'biological sex' and make it happen
Of course they are now reduced to throwing sh_t at the walls in a blind panic and hoping something (anything!) will stick with their pension-aged base. Keep calm and #GTTO
Marsha P. Johnson, founding member of the Gay Liberation Front (GLF) & co-founder of the radical activist group Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries (STAR), and prominent figure in the Stonewall uprising of 1969.
Today in Labor History May 30, 1431: Teenage peasant soldier and crossdresser, Joan of Ark, was burned at the stake by an English tribunal, in part for the “blasphemy” of wearing men’s clothes. After her arrest, her male attire was taken from her and she was forced to sign a document (which she may not have understood) declaring she would no longer cross dress. But when her captors returned her men’s attire, to test her will, she promptly put the clothes back on. During her trial, she vowed, 'For nothing in the world will I swear not to arm myself and put on a man's dress.'" Twenty-fiver years later, Pope Callixtus III declared her a martyr. In 1909, they beatified her and they granted her sainthood in 1920. Transgender activist, writer and communist, Leslie Feinberg, argues in Transgender Liberation that "Joan of Arc was burned at the stake by the Inquisition because she refused to stop dressing as a man… an expression of her identity she was willing to die for rather than renounce."
She rose to prominence during the Hundred Years’ War, which was essentially a feud between competing monarchies (French and English) that left the peasants poor, hungry and at risk of being slaughtered. England had been winning the war and had almost gained control over France when Joan of Ark decided to intervene. She had been having religious visions and was convinced that only she could turn things around for France. She travelled to Chinon to meet King Charles, disguised as a male soldier, which later led to charges of cross-dressing. Convincing the King to turn the conflict into a religious war, she led his troops in the Battle of Orleans. By many contemporary accounts, it was her military advice that won the battle. However, by her own words, she never killed a man, preferring to carry the banner “forty times better” than a sword. In the centuries after her death, she became legendary.
Billy Bragg was awesome last night. Not once but twice, he gave a shout outs for trans rights, worker solidarity. Entire set was political songs. And he'll be great again tonight, with John Doe. And today, in just a few hours I'll be reading with him. If you're in Vegas today, be sure to stop by avantpop books at noon. Place should be hopping!
Oh huh, that does make sense too. I meant it as a pun to the red light district. But after your Toot I looked it up, turns out that the blue light district is actually referring to trans sex workers.
So, I am removing it - I did not have a clue about the meaning - and don't want to cause any harm or discomfort.
Today in Labor History May 15, 1897: Magnus Hershfield and colleagues formed The Scientific-Humanitarian Committee in Berlin to campaign for the rights of LGBTQ people. It was the first LGBTQ rights organization in history. The organization formed just four days before Oscar Wilde’s release from prison. Hershfield was an outspoken advocate for the rights of gender and sexual minorities. They were based in Hershfield’s Institute for Sexual Sciences until the Nazis destroyed the institute in 1933. They provided legal support for people being charged under Germany’s anti-sodomy laws and lobbied to abolition the laws entirely. Albert Einstein, Herman Hesse, Thomas Mann, and Tolstoy all signed their petitions. They also had the world’s first trans medical clinic. And they performed the world’s first sexual reassignment surgeries, for Karl Meir Baer, in 1906, and Lili Elbe, in 1930-1931.
With everything going on in the world to restrict access to gender-affirming hormone therapy, it's even more important that folks know where they can find info on doing this as safely as possible :TransHeart: :NonBinaryHeart: :AgenderHeart: :BiGenderHeart: :DemiBoyHeart: :DemiGirlHeart: :GenderfluidHeart: :GenderqueerHeart: :2SpiritHeart: :IntersexHeart:
You'll find almost everything you need to get started at the below:
“A federal appeals court ruled on Monday that state health insurance plans must provide coverage for gender-affirming care in North Carolina and West Virginia. Trans advocates say it's a huge victory, especially since bills restricting the rights of transgender people have been on the rise in state legislatures.”
This is brilliant. Some rancid TERF emailed the Lib Dem Mayoral candidate in her area with some "polite questions" and got this response.
Bravo Hannah 👏 🤣
"Marjorie Taylor Greene spreads bizarre message about 10-year-old girl’s future orgasms"
That 10-year-old girl is trans, so I guess that gave MTG the green light.
FFS... I give MTG the Indomitable Pisspot Award for jackassery.
Don't read the article if you cannot stand misgendering.
I'd also say that LGBTQ Nation did a piss poor job here. Why should I have to go to Xitter to see the original TikTok without the Xitter shit around it? It took me 5 minutes to find the link and I'm a TikTok dunce.
I'm going to post a direct link as a reply to this post.
Today in Labor History April 25, 1993: Over one million people marched in Washington, D.C., for gay, lesbian, bisexual, & transgender rights. This was in the era of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell discrimination within the military and Colorado’s constitutional amendment invalidating laws that protect LGBTQ rights. The marchers had seven basic demands. The 1st demand was a civil rights bill and ending all discrimination by state and federal governments, including the repeal of all sodomy laws. They also demanded more funding for AIDS research and treatment; an end to discrimination in adoption and child custody; full inclusion of all LGBTQ people in the education system; and an end to all discrimination and violence against LGBTQ people. However, in their platform, they also demanded these same rights and protections for ALL people, especially people of color, people with disabilities, women, nonbinary and trans people, and working class and poor people.
Update #1: I wanted to share this article that was brought to my attention. The US Guardian wrote a piece that really gets to the heart of why I'm sounding a warning, while also helping to frame that this isn't directed at the .com Guardian—they seem to have a healthy viewpoint on how trans people should be treated.
@alice Don't talk to the cops, don't talk to reporters. Especially not the Grauniad, at least the Daily Heil or the Scum are upfront about their bigotry.
Some people learned as children that there are only two colors of eggs: brown and white. This oversimplified idea is reinforced by egg marketing and packaging that groups eggs into those two colors.
Learning about the beautiful diversity of egg colors might be hard for some to accept, but it's true. And all those eggs are good eggs. 🏳️⚧️🏳️🌈
The Independent UK: What the Cass Review fails to tell us about growing up trans
"Trans barrister Robin Moira White says the 388-page report was billed as a ‘new start’ for gender services in the UK – but its glaring holes, notably around controversial puberty blockers, will leave the NHS unable to deal with the real challenges faced by young trans people"
