On things which have both British English and American English denoted by flag and name American English is often put as "English(simplified)" and British English as just "English".

You think because you deal with slices and diced bits you can deal with the whole thing? Its like saying I can eat a whole cow because I can eat a steak.

phdepressed ,

Hugging, yeah. My joints(knees, shoulders, back) are too fucked for what play wrestling is between guys, I forget that when I see my brother after a while but I get reminded right quick. No snuggling, but I'm also not usually on a couch when we hang, still probably not.

No country is a monolith of thought. There is opposition to genocide but without a majority there isn't much they can functionally do.

North Carolina Supreme Court Secretly Squashed Discipline of Two GOP Judges Who Admitted to Violating Judicial Code ( www.propublica.org )

Last fall, out of public view, the North Carolina Supreme Court squashed disciplinary action against two Republican judges who had admitted that they had violated the state’s judicial code of conduct, according to three sources with direct knowledge of the decisions....

phdepressed ,

It is, but just like Clarence, Alito, etc on SCOTUS. Who holds them accountable for violating ethics or impartiality?

Biden says the next president may get to name two Supreme Court justices ( www.npr.org )

LOS ANGELES – President Biden on Saturday night said he expects the winner of this year’s presidential election will likely have the chance to fill two vacancies on the Supreme Court – a decision he warned would be “one of the scariest parts” if his Republican opponent, former President Donald Trump, is successful in...

Should have been they go low we kick em in the teeth.

RO-BOT-OS, boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew.

Well of course the rich will leave, then even with the gerrymandering Dems or even progressives can take control, just in time to be blamed like Biden for Trump's tax hikes (the cuts were permanent for the rich and temporary followed by hikes for us plebs).

phdepressed ,

People will go for new IP it just has to be actually good. And also marketed well. It seems like movie marketing hasn't changed since the 2000s.

Modern scientific consensus is largely that "junk" DNA isn't a thing. All of our DNA has purpose including and sometimes especially the non-coding(nc) parts. The ncRNAs made from ncDNA come in various flavors and are very important to a lot of gene expression control. As seen here that's ETS2 but pretty much all known genes have ncRNA that affects expression in one way or another.

Biology at a research level has basically had to throw out the DNA->RNA->protein dogma because they all affect each other and themselves.

I mean 60y of service ain't too shabby for an ocean vessel that submersrs like 80% of itself.

It is sad that the ONR and Scripps didn't have the 8-10mill to keep it functional.

phdepressed ,

That's only if criminals are elected. Biden used the pardon in 2022 and 2023 to pardon many minor weed related offenses.

phdepressed ,

You're not supposed to just say hot potato. Use it the middle of a sentence then say it fast.

phdepressed ,

Yeah but that is less likely to have more sex.

phdepressed ,

I mean McCain and Romney both did fairly well with their base. What the Rs realized and Ds have yet to realize is that pandering to the center doesn't help. You have to go farther right(R-facisn) or left(D-socialism) to get people actually wanting to vote for you.

phdepressed ,

Or if they'll pay him to split the D vote to ensure an R win.

phdepressed ,

And Trump would "finish the problem" https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/donald-trump/trump-israel-gaza-finish-problem-rcna141905

And Nikki Haley wrote "finish them" on an Israeli missile.

Just a reminder the GOP isn't a better option here. We need to primary out the corpos on both sides but presidentially there isn't a anti-genocide candidate that has a chance.

The rest of their politics are important as well.

And was banned from running charities ( in NY) due to a fraudulent cancer charity, sued for a fraudulent University (never saw how that turned out), and was convicted of property tax fraud(being appealed i think).

phdepressed ,

That's an interesting question since it isn't a Florida felony that he was convicted of. However, the Florida law about felony voting already has several caveats. It only takes effect after the felony stuff is "done" as in time-served, parole done, and relevant fines paid. Then you have the committee approval which for Trump would likely be a high-five.

phdepressed ,

Annoying ass clickbait. Eric tweeted about how the Trump family "gave up everything for this country". Some of the remaining conservatives who aren't MAGA got upset with him.

My brother very maturely didn't kill me when I when I forgot his Gameboy with Pokémon blue and six lvl 99 pokemon in the back of a taxi.

This was also at a catholic women's university iirc. To paraphrase "Good job with the degree but you'll be happier as a housewife/fuckmaid."

phdepressed ,

There's a number of rightwing indian Americans in the US and it honestly gives me secondhand embarrassment as a fellow brown person.

phdepressed ,

Mmm it may play a role but based off of the people I know personally caste isn't the factor. It is more to do with the demonizing of communism/socialism by Indira Gandhi (as well as outright purging during "the Emergency"). Then poorly implemented policies such as the creation of OBCs/SBEC, basically an affirmative action quota was very messily implemented.

My dad is now pretty liberal (though I feel he used to be more R before Bush) but Bernie calling himself a socialist took some effort to get him past.

You'd see similar in much of the world, socialism/ communism has often failed for one reason or another (usually corruption and/or outside interference). Failures cause a lot of suffering and as a result socialism/communism is a bigger boogeyman to an average immigrant than unchecked capitalism. Here in America their lives are still better relative to what they were. Especially if they came in the 80s-90s many of them succeeded in the American dream succeeding with capitalism while running away from socialist failures.

phdepressed ,

No, this could pass because rich folk can set their kids up even better while simultaneously avoiding income tax. Ain't the average single parent that can put multiple thousands per year towards child accounts (e.g. 529) after contributing 30k+/y (23k 401, 7k ira, and brokerage) to their own retirement.

phdepressed ,

Most of space is empty, analysis of the path beforehand and a structure that can withstand the smaller objects is really all that's necessary. But those are just as theoretical as this engine.

phdepressed ,

Yes, as I said theoretically. If/by the time this heavily theoretical engine comes to fruition there will probably be ways to detect asteroids better than we have now. Also materials/structural design that are better than what we have now for sustaining the smaller hits. Maybe quantum prediction scanning, maybe a forcefield. Who knows by then.

phdepressed ,

Well, I'll be long dead before we get a Farnsworth drive running off dark matter.

phdepressed ,

Yeah, they're actually pretty good for financial stuff. With all the ai enshittification at Google and elsewhere maybe I'll try their search again too.

phdepressed ,

Dang. I use ddg but since it is based off the Bing index it's gone to shit recently so I doubt yahoo will be any better then.

So the brain organoid grew normally after thawing and kept the phenotypes tested (normal and epilepsy).

Organoid is very different from a full organ or organism though. Useful for research, extreme doubt for any clinical utility though.

Russia is happy with a warmer world. Their land will become more temperate, they'll get a shipping passage up north. And of course the oligarchy will get richer. Gazprom their state owned and run oil and gas companies is one of Russia's main economic drivers.

phdepressed ,

That's insurance of "last resort", just because a state has an insurance fund, doesn't mean the costs are anything people can pay.

phdepressed ,

Ah but this guy lacks melanin and is on the "right" side.

phdepressed ,

The fascism is the point. They are mask off at this point.

phdepressed ,

There's certainly more to it mentally when done as a choice vs as inflicted torture. Also about the care regarding where the spikes are placed.

phdepressed ,

Doesn't matter how good your healthcare is if your cancer (or other disease) can't be treated.

phdepressed ,

That's a problem for us plebs not them.

phdepressed ,

Pajamas with shoes do technically follow lab rules.

phdepressed ,

Special election, special rules. He's gotta do a primary in June and be voted on in the general again in November.

phdepressed ,

I doubt Reddit is in charge of many of the existing bots on their site.

phdepressed ,

I know they could be I'm just not sure they're that competent. These bots often aren't single user or just copy paste either, there's usually some effort to mix it up or change wording slightly. Reddits internal search function is infamously shit but they "know" which users are unlabeled bots with some effort put behind them?

Pelosi accuses MSNBC host Katy Tur of being ‘apologist for Donald Trump’ ( www.thehill.com )

During an appearance on the network, Pelosi touted President Biden’s record on the economy, saying, he “created 9 million jobs in his term in office. Donald Trump has the worst record of job loss of any president. So we just have to make sure people know.”...

At least she gave up House speakership. Her constituents need to primary her. Last time her Dem opponent got 22% of the vote...and forget about the Rep
