When my sister sold her home, she had her white realtor come to show the appraiser around. She LEFT HER OWN HOME during the process. Right now, my college friend is removing all signs of Blackness from her home before she puts it on the market. All art, photos, statues are being packed. All books are being turned spine in. As Timothy Burke notes, for the most part, those pressuring university administrators to crack down on student protesters "are going wholly undiscussed in the national news coverage." The media mantra is that the protests are causing "chaos." This ignores that the chaos is being created by administrators dragging in police to squelch peaceful protests.

David Pecker from the tabloid: “Yes.”

The American voters were deceived. And it now looks a lot like the prosecution has proved election interference, which is what elevates Trump’s camouflaging his payments from a misdemeanor to a felony.

As I've long warned, be especially alert at this period of our history. @hannu_ikonen I was at a seminar at a Swedish university a few years ago. The seminar was on library resources. During the Q/A, I asked if they kept reading copies of textbooks for those students who could not afford to buy their own. I can see some advantages to knowing if someone has autism if they are in school. But, I don't see the benefit for adults. Provided they are generally happy and coping with life OK.

It does seem to be something that people find valuable and helpful, so I'm missing something I think.

@futurebird I think that employment comes into this discussion. People with autism sometimes have problems with coding and the use of spoke and written language. I believe that these individuals require accommodations when applying for jobs and in the course of their employment.

@wdlindsy When I encounter a “right to lifer” I sometimes say that I think that they’re onto something but they don’t go far enough. Life actually begins with ovulation, I say. Then I suggest that the sweet baby Jesus wouldn’t let a woman ovulate unless he wanted her to become pregnant. Usually they stop talking to me because I have managed to out-crazy them.

Six students have measles in an outbreak at a Florida elementary school.

How did Florida's health department respond?

Their Surgeon General sent out a letter that supports parents sending unvaccinated children to school during the outbreak and doesn't recommend vaccination.

There is a cluster of measles cases that has been identified at Manatee Bay Elementary. The Florida Department of Health (DOH) is continuously working with all partners, including Broward County Public Schools and local hospitals, to identify close contacts. Measles can be transmitted four days prior to the start of symptoms. When measles is detected in a school, it is normally recommended that individuals without history of prior infection or vaccination stay home for up to 21 days. This is the period of time that the virus can be transmitted. However, due to the high immunity rate in the community, as well as the burden on families and educational cost of healthy children missing school, DOH is deferring to parents or guardians to make decisions about school attendance.
