The headline doesn't say they've already raised it?

SaintWacko ,

Proxmox. VMs and containers are great, especially when you're learning

SaintWacko ,

I think you've got a typo in your graphic

SaintWacko ,

Alright, fine! I'll watch Lucifer again!

SaintWacko ,

Man, I didn't even have to look at your name to know you were from hexbear

SaintWacko ,

That's some impressive cognitive dissonance, to say opposing oppression and "might makes right" is equivalent to opposing the civil rights movement

Refinishing this little table/desk for my young kid. What will yield a fine-not-perfect result? ( lemmy.world )

It has seen some water damage and the varnish is flaking off (especially on the top). But I don't necessarily have the time/energy for a full strip/sand/refinish, especially as this may get dinged up; I'm just looking for a reasonably pleasing look....

SaintWacko ,

I think their point is that it's for a kid, so it's not going to stay nice, so no point having it start out perfect

SaintWacko ,

You mean the ridiculous attitude of thinking that vaping shouldn't be aimed at kids?

SaintWacko ,

"people who want Trump to be president"

SaintWacko ,

Yeah, that's what frustrates me. There are legitimate concerns around Biden as president. However, every single one of those concerns also applies to Trump, as well as a million more much worse concerns

SaintWacko ,

I'm sorry, I like most of what you said, but I can't in good conscience upvote someone who thinks the movie was better than the book. It's a fun movie, but, come on...

SaintWacko ,

I'm currently reading REAMDE by Neal Stephenson. I love his writing, and this one holds up to the rest

SaintWacko ,

That's a good book. Very interesting

SaintWacko ,

The first book of his I read was Seveneves, and I absolutely loved it. It's very long, and a bit slow at parts, but it's fascinating. I recommend it to everyone

SaintWacko ,

Conservative isn't really the correct term for the right anymore. They're not just conservative, they're regressive

SaintWacko ,

Same here. Everything, sorted by scaled, and I block communities that annoy me. Or entire instances, but so far that's just been hexbear

SaintWacko ,

I just deadname buildings. Anyone been up the Sears Tower lately?

SaintWacko ,

You might also look at knives with an Axis-lock type system. It's not identical, but rather than a button press you slide a stud with your finger, so it has the same easy one-handed opening and closing. That used to be limited to Benchmade, but it's now available pretty much everywhere. I really love my Kershaw Iridium: https://kershaw.kaiusa.com/iridium.html

SaintWacko ,

My neighborhood Facebook page. Just set stuff out on the curb and post a picture of it and it starts disappearing

SaintWacko ,

Politics doesn't just mean national government. Local government policies are politics too

SaintWacko ,

Where did you go, if you don't mind me asking? It's certainly something we've talked about...

SaintWacko ,

Correction: "I'm voting for Biden to make sure the things that are happening right now continue to get slowly better, instead of getting immediately and significantly worse."

SaintWacko ,

I tried doing that on my home server, but running it on the CPU is super slow, and the model won't fit on the GPU. Not sure what I'm doing wrong

SaintWacko ,

Show as in I waited a few minutes and finally killed it when it didn't seem like it was going anywhere. And this was with the 7b model...

SaintWacko ,

Hm... Alright, I'll have to take another look at it. I kinda gave up, figuring my old server just didn't have the specs for it

SaintWacko ,

It has a Intel Xeon E3-1225 V2, 20gb of ram, and a Strix GTX 970 with 4gb of VRAM. I've actually tried Mistral 7b and Decapoda Llama 7b, running them in Python with Huggingface's Transformers library (from local models)

SaintWacko ,

Ah, that's good to know! I'll give those other options a shot. Thank you so much for taking the time to help me with that! I'm very new to the whole LLM things, and sorta figuring it out as I go

SaintWacko ,

I read something once that made a lot of sense. For the left, freedom means "freedom from". For the right, freedom means "freedom to".

SaintWacko ,

I've always wished my phone had a setting where certain fingerprints would hard lock it instead of unlocking

SaintWacko ,

Or maybe it was the Israel movement (into Palestine)

SaintWacko ,

I'm camping in the middle of nowhere southeast Oklahoma, praying this cloud cover lifts in time

SaintWacko ,

I debated packing up my stuff and driving a couple hours to Mena, but I'm not sure the weather is going to be any better there...

SaintWacko ,

Instead of glue, I'd recommend getting some silicone sealant. It's pretty much designed for this sort of thing

SaintWacko ,

I'm not sure of the scale here, but you might also consider using a hot knife to cut the holes rather than drilling, and flexible plastic tubing rather than a pipe

SaintWacko ,

I have a central monitor in landscape orientation which is where my IDE lives. Then a monitor on the left in portrait, which has the bottom quarter or so dedicated to work chat, music controls, and the browser developer window, then the rest of it is a web browser for documentation. On the right is my laptop screen, which is used for more documentation and watching TV shows while I work

SaintWacko ,

The vote isn't decided by how many absolute votes someone gets. It's decided by how many votes they get relative to their opponent. A vote for a third party candidate is a -1 to Biden's absolute vote count, which is a +1 to Trump's relative vote count, which, again, is what actually matters.

SaintWacko ,

So if he just keeps leaving things, are they going to just keep sending it back?

Should I learn Docker or Podman?

Hi, I've been thinking for a few days whether I should learn Docker or Podman. I know that Podman is more FOSS and I like it more in theory, but maybe it's better to start with docker, for which there is a lot more tutorials. On the other hand, maybe it's better to straight up learn podman when I don't know any of the two and...

SaintWacko ,

They're being useless, but what I do is use Proxmox and just install my stuff each in their own LXC

SaintWacko ,

I'm in the same boat. The vet has told us her teeth are inflamed, but she doesn't act like she's in any pain, she just drools some

SaintWacko ,

Huh, that title definitely takes it out of context. Don't get me wrong, a violent bloodbath is absolutely his plan, but this quote seems to be more about an economic bloodbath

SaintWacko ,

Yeah, I was disappointed to see that. We're supposed to be better than this

SaintWacko ,

I really enjoy this series. While a lot of the focus is on the humans and their uplifts, there are plenty of interesting and unique alien races. I'd read them in the order listed here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uplift_Universe
