NixOS As a replacement for active directory?

I have always been exposed to windows active directory with server controlled logins, server based "home" directories, etc. With the nature of NixOS it seems like it might be easy to deploy something similar by just setting up the configuration.nix as some sort of symlink to one stored on a central server. I initially just used it on personal projects just so I could rollback if I needed to. Afterwards I realized that you could branch after watching Fireship videos. I never got an aha moment, but the moment I really understood was after my first pull request to a project I liked at the time.

The key is to use a hose and not a fixed one. The fixed ones don't really allow you to clean where you'd like whereas the hose ones let you aim wherever. At least that's how it's been in my experience.
