"Wikipedia’s editors declared that the Anti-Defamation League cannot be trusted to give reliable information on the Israel-Palestine conflict, and they overwhelmingly said the ADL is an unreliable source on antisemitism. It’s a stunning rebuke to one of the world’s preeminent authorities on anti-Jewish hate and a significant advocate for the rights and causes of American Jews."

Since Trump and McConnell conspired and installed political stooge justices into the Supreme Court, it was obvious what was going to happen. Biden was encouraged to re balance the Court by expanding the number of Justices to counter. He could have done so and pointedly refused.

It was another huge Biden error! Electing Trump is not an option but Biden is killing us ... literally!

MisuseCase ,

@PerryM @otownKim So it’s Biden’s fault that Senators Manchin and Sinema wouldn’t vote for it?

MisuseCase ,

@PerryM @otownKim >> “At the beginning of Biden's Presidency the Senate was controlled by the democrats as Sinema and Manchin were Democrats.”

Were you paying attention at the time? Do you know what they were/are like? Are you aware that members of the same party may not agree on the same things (it happens often)? Do you think Biden can control the whole party (he doesn’t)?

MisuseCase ,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@PerryM @otownKim Also if you aren’t sure that Biden pushing for it would have made it succeed, did you just want to hear him say the “right” things?

Is it possible that since chances of success were slim, antagonizing Manchin and Sinema when he needed their votes for other things may not have been worthwhile?

MisuseCase ,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

@otownKim @PerryM I remember people saying Biden should twist their arms or something at the time, but Biden didn’t have anything to twist their arms with. Manchin really didn’t want to seem like Biden could push him around or like he was too chummy with Biden, because of what his constituency is like.

LBJ was able to lean on Senate Democrats but he had a supermajority to work with.

Heat is going to take down power systems. The power systems that could protect us from an event, will be harmed by the event.

I think it’s because the TV series really hammers the point home in a way that the games maybe don’t, even though it’s a strong through line in the series.

MisuseCase OP ,
@MisuseCase@twit.social avatar

But even leaving that out, the Enclave, a lot of the Brotherhood of Steel, Robert House (in FNV), Caesar (oh boy, Caesar), and the Master are all engaged in their own accelerationist/revanchist projects.

While, e.g., the Enclave and Robert House are just working on long-term accelerationist projects in which the Great War was the Big Event, Caesar and the DEAD MONEY antagonist want to BE the Big Event, in different ways.

Also actual working communities and societies that have arisen in the 200 years after the Great War are things to be at best ignored, or at worst destroyed, by the #fallout antagonists.

Caesar is a little more complicated but when you boil it down he’s just a textbook fascist.

What capitalist industry and commerce has done just in the last three decades, pumping nearly a trillion tons of CO₂ into the air, has no precedent.

Never before in Earth’s history has so much carbon dioxide been added to the atmosphere over such a short period of time.

HEADLINE: Chemical analysis of natural CO₂ rise over the last 50,000 years shows that today's rate is 10 times faster

"The rate of CO₂ change today really is unprecedented," said Kathleen Wendt, assistant professor in Oregon State University's College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. "Our research identified the fastest rates of past natural CO₂ rise ever observed, and the rate occurring today, largely driven by human emissions, is 10 times higher."

During the largest of the natural rises, carbon dioxide increased by about 14 parts per million in 55 years. The jumps occurred about once every 7,000 years or so. At today's rates, that magnitude of increase takes only 5 to 6 years.

Never in the whole history of Earth has so much CO₂ been poured into the atmosphere in such a short time.

Our rulers are literally conducting an insanely dangerous experiment, making it impossible for anyone to say with any certainty what will happen next. No one knows, because nothing like this has ever been done before.

    / Annual Antisemitism Report (with TAU): "Antisemitism Worldwide Report for 2023
    Concern for the Future of Jewish Life in the West"

    I had to read it again: "Concern for the Future of Jewish Life in the West"... Also absent in the aftermath of October 7th discussion is any reference to the atrocities committed by Israel in Gaza, for which it is under active investigation both in the and and is an obvious contributor to the rise in anti-war protests around the world.

    Reminder: The is a controversial North American organization, claiming to be an authority on the subject of antisemitism. It has been criticized for its equation of anti-Zionism with antisemitism and for allegedly undermining left-wing and pro-Palestinian activism.

    The has been accused of inflating the number of antisemitic incidents to support its narrative of rising antisemitism. For example, in 2017, the ADL included 163 bomb threats to synagogues in its "harassment" statistics, even though these threats were attributed to a single disturbed individual. Critics argue that this "alarmism" serves the institutional imperative of the ADL and other similar organizations. https://www.wrmea.org/israel-palestine/adls-campaign-to-silence-criticism-of-israel-by-calling-it-anti-semitism.html

    Critics also argue that the 's conflation of with -Zionism and criticism of Israel silences legitimate criticism of Israel's policies and actions toward Palestinians. They claim that this equation deflects attention from the actions of the Israeli government, soldiers, and settlers, and threatens the livelihoods of journalists and academics who deviate from the ADL's narrative. https://www.theguardian.com/news/2024/jan/05/adl-pro-israel-advocacy-zionism-antisemitism

    In May 2022, ADL CEO Jonathan Greenblatt sparked controversy by equating anti-Zionism with antisemitism and labeling groups advocating for Palestinian rights, such as Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP), Jewish Voice for Peace (JVP), and the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR), as "extremist." This comparison was criticized by both ADL staff and external observers, who argued that it undermined the ADL's ability to build coalitions with other groups and fight antisemitism effectively. https://jewishcurrents.org/adl-staffers-dissented-after-ceo-compared-palestinian-rights-groups-to-right-wing-extremists-leaked-audio-reveals

    The Report:

    Interestingly, though, the authors do not perceive criticism of Israel as antisemitism. They state that "criticizing Israel, including in harsh terms, is NOT antisemitism." However, seeking its elimination as the national home of the Jewish people, including through the false argument that it is an unlawful colonial enterprise, is antisemitic. The problem is, of course, that Israel is a "colonial" byproduct, while calling for its elimination is not a conclusion of such an observation more than the elimination of the USA, Australia, New Zealand, or any other colonies.

    The authors identify several factors that have contributed to the rise of antisemitism, including:

    • The war in Gaza
    • The rise of populism in the West
    • The spread of antisemitism on social media
    • The failure of academia to address antisemitism on campus
    • The influence of foreign funding on academia
    • The failure of political leaders to condemn antisemitism

    [...] The Report notes that hate speech was articulated even before Israel launched its campaign in Gaza, including on leading university campuses, and thus urged against seeing the recent wave of antisemitism as an emotional response to the war. "Some antisemitic attackers emphasize their problem is with Israel, not with Jews, and then attack Jews and Jewish institutions."

    [...] Dr. Carl Yonker, Senior Researcher and Project Manager at the "Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry," TAU, who wrote a study for the Report on antisemitism in the United States, said: "Contrary to the conventional wisdom, post-October 7 incidents were also led from the far right in America. Neo-Nazis, white supremacists, and others glorified Hamas and used the war to spread antisemitic propaganda along with conspiracy theories, according to which the crisis will advance the replacement of the white majority in the West by migrants from the Middle East. The fringes in the United States are encroaching on the political center from both right and left, making combating antisemitism much trickier."

    @oatmeal @martinvermeer @israel @palestine ADL now includes criticism of Israel or protest actions against Israel as “antisemitic incidents” and doesn’t differentiate between those and actual antisemitic incidents so yes they are inflating their numbers.

    @GottaLaff They know this means there will be no deal and they can’t get the hostages back - the ones who are still alive - but they don’t care, they want to keep the killing and the ethnic cleansing going.
