Saw this and immediately wondered if the sound a parent made stepping on it in the dark in ancient times is the same noise we'd make today

@ElleGray Many years ago I was part of a team excavating a village in the Aleutian Islands and we found a miniature set of whaling and fishing tools - very likely some child’s toys! The set included a miniature carved harpoon head and I wonder how many people stepped on that like you’d step on a Lego in the carpet.

Kids were playing tag yesterday. I started thinking that tag is such a simple game that cave kids must've played it as well, hundreds of thousands of years ago. And parents would've yelled alike about wreaking havoc too close to the fireplace or pottery.

@ElleGray hmm. Curse words wear out with usage, but I wonder if they recover their potency after a long enough dormancy. https://www.wired.com/story/the-science-of-why-swearing-physically-reduces-pain/

@ElleGray generations of archaeologists think little figures like that would be made for cultic reasons - what if they were mostly toys?

@ElleGray Cuss words are language-specific so not exactly the same sound but you'd know what what happened if you were in the next room.
