If people can’t afford the home modifications in the above comment, how are they supposed to pay for the solar installation?

Confused_Emus ,

Aren’t tax credits only useful at tax filing time? You still have to be able to pay the up front costs, right?

Microsoft experimented with putting a datacenter underwater and saw some encouraging results.

That some people are irreparably broken and I’m one of them.

If anyone is actually curious, it’s an igneous intrusion - initially formed underground by magma pushing up into sedimentary rock and cooling there. Rather than an eruption of magma out of the ground, this was formed by the softer rock around the hardened magma eroding away and leaving this uncovered.

Gotta be some other reason, because they’re clearly fine with family beatings.

Confused_Emus ,

Requiring at least 50GBs of free space! Yeah, Microsoft’s spyware is exactly what I want to spend my storage on.

Confused_Emus ,

Again, that is literally in the headline. “The first out LGBTQ+…”

Confused_Emus ,

I mean if you go with the whole Adam and Eve junk, we’ve all got the genetics of a royal anyway.

Confused_Emus ,

It’s used both ways, it’s just context dependent.

Confused_Emus ,

Flying cars seem like a great idea, but considering how shit everyone seems to be at driving in 2 dimensions I’m very nervous about the idea of giving them a 3rd.

Confused_Emus ,

And then there’s those damnable IKEA pictographs…

Confused_Emus ,

Must have been a lot of Dramamine going around before Einstein invented that.

Confused_Emus ,

Are the solid dudes subject to the effects of density? What does the neutron star crowd look like?

Confused_Emus ,

Not all the way through, but I know what you’re talking about and that does seem like a good representation.

I wanted to go into forensic psychology. But then I took a class on Tuesday nights taught by someone whose day-job was forensic psychology and found out how often you’re likely to get sued just by doing your job (assisting the courts means the losing side will often be pissed at and litigious with you).

I graduated with my BS in Psychology and promptly accepted an IT job - I have a natural talent with tech and had work experience from my student job as a helpdesk tech for the college. Now I work nights from home doing core network maintenance for an ISP.

Still trying to figure out if the student loan debt I’m currently buried under was really worth taking on just to get my foot in the door of barely-lucrative employment.

EDIT: If your career interest can be entered into with trade school or studying for and testing for a few certs, college is a waste of money! Don’t do it!

Confused_Emus ,

Yeah, but you sucked all the fun out of a joke that no one was confused about in the first place.

Confused_Emus ,

There’s another nifty little container called qbittorrent-natmap that will take care of that for you.

Confused_Emus ,

And on the seventh day, God dropped a holy deuce and rested.

Confused_Emus ,

It’s not the Cheney MO. Now if they said she peppered them with buckshot…

Confused_Emus ,

Don’t let the fire get too close to your straw man, there.

Confused_Emus ,

the owner or an immediate family member wants to move in

Abso-fucking-lutely not. A lease is a contract. You don’t get to shove someone out into being homeless because Cousin Lou needs a place to stay. Either rent/sell the property, or keep it for personal use. Not both.

Confused_Emus ,

Ok, that makes more sense. Periodic I think would be the same as what I’ve heard called “month-to-month,” which does make sense to be a more tentative arrangement. I gotcha now.

Confused_Emus ,

You do realize they aren’t really sending a giant ball of shitty chocolate into space, yeah?

Confused_Emus ,

For many Americans it’s actually pretty simple as long as they’re working with a standard W-2 (form you get from your employer with the year’s wages and taxes and stuff filled out). Many tax prep services will even import these numbers automatically and all you have to do is click through the questions and optional things like if you want to donate your returns to anything or pay estimated taxes for the next year - mostly stuff that most people aren’t concerned with anyway.

Taxes here start getting complicated when you are an independent contractor (you’re responsible for holding out taxes from your income since you don’t have an employer to do it for you) and/or have non-standard sources of income like stocks, shares, real estate holdings, etc. which the IRS may or may not have information on, thus why you need to provide the info.

Most of what has made calculating taxes and paying/getting returns a pain in the ass is tax prep companies like TurboTax lobbying to make and keep the tax filing process a confusing one, with the goal of steering you into paying for the non-free filing options.

Confused_Emus ,

For who, though?! I keep seeing articles about this latest round of student loan debt forgiveness, but so far I’ve seen nothing about who this round applies to. Who qualifies and how?

Confused_Emus ,

I’m on that already at least. I did see that it’s expected to take a while for it to apply since legal challenges are expected, so whoever it applies to I guess it’s mostly a waiting game for now.

Confused_Emus ,

I didn’t see in the article - have any details come out about which loan borrowers this will apply to?

Confused_Emus ,

Kinda figured that was part of the joke - making fun of the boomer Facebook posts that it’s styled after.

Confused_Emus ,

Take you all day to figure that one out, your holiness?

Confused_Emus ,

I like the implication that freely expressing myself involves flames.

Confused_Emus ,

At least one fast food joint tickled the idea of Uber-style surge pricing for their food before going back on it from the backlash. Fast Food wars are just a matter of time.

Confused_Emus ,

Exactly who I was thinking of. I just cannot believe they thought that would go over well. Someone surely got fired over that idea.

Confused_Emus ,

I was so happy when I was able to tell Comcast/Xfinity to suck toads after moving to an area with Google Fiber. Google may be a shit company, but I gotta admit I really love symmetrical gigabit service for $70/month.

Confused_Emus ,

Anyone else suddenly reconsidering their position against assassination? Then again, that would probably just make him a martyr for all the nutjobs planning to vote for him. Maybe he’ll cut himself on a rusty nail and tetanus will do us a favor.

Clickbait headline - and I know most viewers/commenters aren’t even opening that link. The quote was “bloodbath for the auto industry.” Takes it from a threat of anarchy to a simple negative assessment of the auto industry.

There’s plenty to not like about this shitbag without getting sensationalist about it.

In my time, we’ve covered much of the world in a mesh of fine glass wires. We shine light through them to communicate over long distances. I edit the texts in the light emitting boxes to tell the light where to go.

I’m also largely responsible for cleaning up other people’s messes, like the day shift techs who generate shitty MOPs with a shitty tool that they don’t know is doing stuff wrong because they’ve never actually run a command in a Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel, Overture, etc. in their life and now I’m just ranting and rambling…

    Confused_Emus ,

    I'm more of a cis-gay-socialist, but I'm friends with a number of trans-programmer-communists!

    Confused_Emus ,

    That sounds painful.
