I miss the internet where we tricked our friends into looking at a picture of a man’s gaping asshole

Tbh, I don't miss that. Neither do I miss spacedicks.

I also liked Paris and I've been there twice in summer. People weren't actively going out of their way to be unfriendly to us, so this was great compared to the rest of france.

Everyone we asked for help did their best to help us, though we have 0 french knowledge. I had very different experiences elsewhere in France (we quickly learned to only speak to arab people outside Paris, if we needed help, worked fine).

We skipped most touristy places and just had a few relaxing days there both times. So that might also be, why we had a pleasant time in Paris.

That is pretty much how it is in Germany. Illegal (outside of the regulation avoiding taxes) and forced prostitution is still a huge problem. There is just way too much money to be made in that business...

I personally prefer the Nordic models therfore.

The pimps that are trafficking over don't care about stigmas and the women aren't afraid about getting stigmatized, but about getting send back to their home-countries.

He is not wrong, but he is not adressing the actual criticism of electric vehicles, so it is kind of pointless.

@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Different for many people. For us it is that we live in an urban area parking on the street and charging it, even with the faster chargers nowadays, just doesn't fit into our schedule. We'd have to cut working hours if we'd want to get an EV. But other people have other problems with them

Luckily me and the children can completly get around by public transportation, scooters and bicycles. My wife cannot (for now at least). So, at least we only have one car for the 4 ouf us.

But I already know that you'll belittle out problems and come up with half assed solution (yes I know we can charge while shopping, but we walk to the supermarket). I had this discussion often with EV fanatics. Please spare me.

menemen , (edited )
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, but that is only in London and only 1300 street lights. Once they've done 10+ million of those in the whole of the UK this might get interesting. And it will still be much more expensive to habe an EV for people who cannot charge at home.

Sadly they haven't even started with that here in Germany. And tbh, I am quite annoyed by this. They keep blowing money into the assess of suburbanites, but completly ignore urban people. Thus subsidizing infrastructure wasting sprawling even more.

I once lived in a street where one of my neughbours was a professional opera singer. She sometimes trained at home (I say "train", because she didn't sing, but just trained her voice). Men, she was so loud. I'd prefer a construction site over that, it was crazy.

This might also make it really easy to hit the 2 degree climate target.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

The netherlands still have a terrible CO2 bilance, which shows that we have to think much bigger than that.

On the local space have a focus on the climate impact preperation. This might very well safe many lifes in your city/town/village. For the climate change reduction think national and international.

I am in my early 40s. Stalking and badmouthing was defintly a problem before social media as well.

I am male and still have that experience. Was much worse for women/girls.

menemen ,

I think this is as much about early millenials as about late Gen X. Early Gen X are just worried they'll never get grandchildren at this point.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

That is one of the things that are drastically changing right now, imo the most worrying thing. We see how unfair the taxation is on concrete example, we see how our governments support extreme war crimes on concrete examples, we see how politicians ignore the law to enrich themselves and others. If we let it slide, they henceforth will always do it in the open. I am not yet sure to what that will lead, but I fear not to anything good.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

I'll never get over the fact that the people ruining the world economy, pushing millions/billions into poverty and thus being indrectly responsible for health issues and even deaths of countless people, got severance payments of 100+ million dollars...

The 1970s and 1980s in Europe were a terrible time in regards of pedophilia. In the aftermath of the sexual revolution and the decriminalization of homosexuality, some people thought everything goes and weren't really stopped. Take people like Volker Beck in Germany who openly demanded pedophilia to be decriminalized or Daniel Cohn-Bendit, who wrote a text about having sex with a 6 year old (he was working at a Kindergarten at the time). And they were by far not the only people who went way too far.

Volker Beck later became a member of the German parliament (for ~20 years), a leading figure of green politics and is currently serving as the president of the German–Israeli Society. Daniel Cohn-Bendit later became a member of the European parliament (for ~20 years)...

The headlines says it all about how serious we have to take his words. The ICC didn't even state "genocide" in the warrant request...

That doens't mean it isn't one. But the ICC was intelligent enough to only state war crimes we can witness without a doubt. Genocide would have the "intent" part that might complicate things at this stage.

Here is what the prosecutor stated as reasons for the arrest warrant request for Netanyahu:

  • Starvation of civilians as a method of warfare as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(b)(xxv) of the Statute;

  • Wilfully causing great suffering, or serious injury to body or health contrary to article 8(2)(a)(iii), or cruel treatment as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(c)(i);

  • Wilful killing contrary to article 8(2)(a)(i), or Murder as a war crime contrary to article 8(2)(c)(i);

  • Intentionally directing attacks against a civilian population as a war crime contrary to articles 8(2)(b)(i), or 8(2)(e)(i);

  • Extermination and/or murder contrary to articles 7(1)(b) and 7(1)(a), including in the context of deaths caused by starvation, as a crime against humanity;

  • Persecution as a crime against humanity contrary to article 7(1)(h);

  • Other inhumane acts as crimes against humanity contrary to article 7(1)(k).

https://www.icc-cpi.int/news/statement-icc-prosecutor-karim-aa-khan-kc-applications-arrest-warrants-situation-state

But I think if the process will be allowed to continue despite US pressure "genocide" will be added to the list eventually.

A (single use) water bottle with a sport cap is basically a portable bidet. One can even easily adjust the water pressure.

The USA should stopp mass murdering village elders, farmers and so on, because they had been at the same location as someone else. The USA killed ten thousands without a single proof of them being guilty of anything. The USA also killed the families (including small children) of many of these innocent people.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, beards are in fashion for several years now, aren't they?

I personally started growing a beard, because my skin is easily irritated and I don't like walking arround looking like a pizza. Luckily I also think I look better with a short, well kept full beard. Beards either take time or look like shit though in my experience.

40+ hrs/week

Isn't that the thing? We automatize so much and instead of getting the 20hrs/week, we struggel so much to improve efficiency. But for what? There are sectors I agree with that approach (like medicine, climate impact and so on). But if I have to use the same smartphone technology for 10 years or don't upgrade to an 8k TV in the next 20 years, that is utterly fine by me, if that means that I'll have to wrk 20hours less per week.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

Don't know how Finland does it exactly. But here in Germany the rent would be paid directly by the city to the landlord. The addict would not have any real way to get to the money, because he is not involved in this process. But there aren't enough appartments, so despite that we also have homlesness here (not at a USA level though).

menemen , (edited )
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

I am in a high income tax group here in Germany. I am happy to pay almost half of my income in taxes and social security/health insurance, if I see that it gets well invested. We are a society and the stronger should always carry the weaker (both financially and also in other aspects).

BUT: I am really pissed that I have to pay such a high percentage of what I have to work hard for, while those who did nothing but being born into a rich family pay hardly anyything at all. High income taxes should only be a thing when wealth taxes are also high, otherwise it only kills the will to work hard.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

So, high income taxes is the collectivization of the means of production? You wrote a lot of words, but none of them make sense in regards of your original statement.

And yes, I want socialism (though not in the form you probably assume, but this is getting really OT). But we are not talking about socialism here.

menemen ,
@menemen@lemmy.world avatar

While I have nothing against a "maximum wage", the wealth tax is much more important.

The power is sadly not "fake", but very real.

Anyone working in e.g. public infrastructure will be very much able to assure you, how much power money brings and it gets worse with rising levels of political structures.
