I have been banned from Reddit now it's brought me here.

So ban me over my pro-Palestine stance and well the rule I broke was basically depicting child abuse/neglect. But that as well has me going cause it's like when it comes to the war how can it really be define as child abuse to show how the children of Palestine are suffering. Anyway I hate reddit so much right now and have even...

Please get off the internet for a little while. It’s poisoning your brain.

I rarely see leeks, and when I do, they’re extremely expensive. Such a versatile vegetable that I wish more Americans knew about!

lqdrchrd ,

I’m not a chip guy, but I bought a family sized bag of cheddar lays poppables for a long train ride a few months ago, and damn near ate the whole thing by myself. Haven’t bought another for fear of doing it again. Also the bag was like $4!

Banana milk! 1 ripe banana, 1/2 cup milk, 1/2 cup water, 1 tbsp maple syrup, a few drops of vanilla extract, blend and pour through a sieve over ice. So refreshing and very cheap.

For real. I moved recently, and tried one of the best rated dispensaries in the area. The place legitimately had a bouncer and all the other staff were in lab coats. Felt like buying in a forensics lab, shit was unnerving

I feel like, depending on your age at the time, this is more on her than you. I’m an adult, and I don’t buy myself clothes that can’t handle the normal setting on my washer and dryer. I know it would be a case of when, not if, I’d forget. No way I’d trust a child to pay attention to something like that.

To expand on this from a different perspective, I’m not a game developer, I have an analytics background. A mobile game company popped up on my Indeed feed not too long ago, looking to fill what basically amounted to a position whose sole goal was to make their games as addictive as possible. I’m not saying that those kinds of roles don’t exist in more traditional game development, but it seems par for the course with mobile gaming.

I spotted Tom Hardy rushing through a London train a few years ago. I gave him a nod and he gave me the ‘don’t tell anyone I’m here’ look. My Mum was next to me and pretty upset she didn’t notice him, because she thinks he’s a pretty handsome guy!

Anyone else have to watch recorded lectures at 2-3x speed?

Currently studying for an exam tomorrow, and I now realize why I'm always so sleepy in class: the prof. speaks sooo sloowllyy with pauses - in-between - most words. I can't keep focused because of that; thankfully, he has narrated powerpoints that I can download and watch... at 3x normal speed. Which is nice because a 37 minute...

Wanted to chime in since I don’t see anyone here with the opposite opinion. When I did my degree I was always very grateful for the lecturers who would go slower and allow time for you to finish writing notes and really let the material sink in. I think the professor stopping is, at least some of the time, for your own benefit and not theirs, allowing you time to write detailed enough notes. I couldn’t have taken enough notes for an hour class in 20 minutes and also have been able to understand what I was writing.

My mother in law came over yesterday to share some of the stew she made with ingredients from the food bank. I was so grateful that I got a day this week where I didn’t have to pay for food. This shit is not helping anyone.

how should I tell my new trashy neighbors to keep their puppy off my property

They let their new puppy outside without a leash and it just comes over to my property and gets into my things that aren't confined to my fence and scares my ducks. This puppy is a pit and is going to get huge. I'm afraid it'll get to my birds or dogs....

A family friend’s pitbull chewed the ear off of someone’s toddler because it wanted to play with him. The best way to deal with a dangerous dog you don’t own is to ignore it and have the owners deal with it. The last thing you want is the dog liking you more than its owners, spending more time in your yard, then deciding to ‘play’ with the ducks.

Do they have a PayPal / Venmo / anything else that we can donate to directly? I don’t live anywhere near there, but I would love to donate towards them being able to stay in a hotel.

What did you get up to during the COVID quarantine?

I was in school so when that was put on hold I essentially played video games like it was a job. I remember vividly playing Grand Theft Auto IV in one sitting for the Liberty City Minute achievement and I'm pretty sure I played through Master Chief Collection....

100kg person is 80kg water -> 20kg not water

For them to be 90% water -> 20kg not water of a total of 200kg -> 180kg water

180kg water after drinking - 80kg water before drinking = 100kg water must be consumed

The myth of being 'non-political' ( farrellperks.substack.com )

Something I hear commonly when talking to people, is the dreaded phrase "I'm non-political". Usually said to mean that they either don't know, care, or understand politics. It's likely true that a lot of these people don't understand or know about the intricacies of politics in the UK, but it's usually a complete lie that they...

lqdrchrd ,

For me it is a lie, I do care about politics, but I don’t discuss it with friends or family. Feigning ignorance is the easiest way out. I’ve been the third wheel in a 'discussion' where two people argue politics and it's not a nice position.

The good: I just signed a new lease in a city I have always wanted to live in, so it’s moving time

The bad: I hit an enormous raccoon which cracked my bumper and have to take my car in for repairs today on my lunch break

Boots Theory is when you buy cheap products that need to be replaced repeatedly thereby costing you more than if you had bought a more expensive quality item. When have you done this to yourself?

The boots theory is an economic theory that people in poverty have to buy cheap and subpar products that need to be replaced repeatedly, proving more expensive in the long run than more expensive items....

Ukrainian writer Andrey Kurkov: ‘I felt guilty writing fiction in a time of war’ ( www.theguardian.com )

The Ukrainian novelist Andrey Kurkov was having dinner with friends at his home in Kyiv on the evening of 23 February 2022, the day before Russia launched its full-scale invasion. Within hours he was advised that his name probably featured on a Russian list targeting prominent Ukrainian figures for arrest, or worse, and he...

McDonald’s used to be viable because it was shit, but at least it was cheap. Now it’s just shit. I haven’t gone of my own will in years, only with other people who wanted it. $3 for a hash brown is absurd.

I got ‘hired’ on at my current job as a non-employee temp worker with no health insurance or sick days, as it was the only kind of role I could get remotely related to my field since I was a fresh immigrant here in the US. My boss fought tooth and nail for me to get hired full-time with a 30% raise and our amazing health benefits. Now just 6 months later, she’s petitioning her boss to give me a promotion when I feel like I just got here, and would have happily spent the next year or two learning before trying to move around. I owe a lot to her for giving me a chance when nowhere else would.

lqdrchrd ,

This is the crazy part to me. It’s not completely unreasonable to want to live on your own terms, but to demand that and then beg the U.S Treasury Department for free shit just seems antithetical to their whole schtick.

lqdrchrd ,

I had the same reaction, rarely drink, maybe a couple every other weekend, and I sleep like a log after that. I find that beer or spirits help me sleep well, but I’ll wake up feeling like a new man after a few glasses of wine.

My job offers subsidized pet insurance as a perk, and even then, the monthly fees are so prohibitively expensive for my cat that it would be a financial mistake to pay for insurance rather than save the money and use my savings in an emergency. Not to mention that I’d have to with insurance anyway, since the premiums were so high.

As a rule, non-essential insurance (including pet insurance) is designed to be a losing bet as you are paying for the average cost of an insured animal’s care, plus the overhead of hundreds of people’s wages.

The only reason I could see you paying for it is if you know your pet will absolutely need it in the future and it will pay for itself, in which case I would use insurance with the smallest premium. Best of luck.

I agree that this is less the case of a rogue chat bot losing it at undeserving customers, and more the case of someone who knows how to twist an LLM to do what they want it to do, but still an absolute embarrassment for DPD. What other nonsense was it writing to different customers who really didn’t know better?

Visiting my hometown and feeling a bit sad

So about 2 years ago, I moved away. Broken spirit broken person, over 3000 miles. However, yesterday I landed for my first visit back here. And I just feel weird. Like I'm not supposed to be here or something, it's very ominous. I constantly feel anxious....

Due to visa complications I haven’t been home to see my family since I moved continents five years ago. I had no idea when I left that I would never see my dog or the only home that I had ever known ever again.

I’m extremely concerned that I’m also pining for a place that doesn’t exist any more.
