The only thing it has "over" taxis is an app instead of a phone call to dispatch.

ironhydroxide ,

Thinking about this.... I wonder if the fediverse could be used for an "open source" app, to then hail and track a taxi in whatever area you're in....

Of course adoption would be the hardest part, but any taxi service could host their own server (even single driver operations) and anyone with an app that interfaces with the system could hail a taxi.

Privacy would be difficult, as, inherently you need to somehow inform the taxi where you are and possibly who to expect. And anyone in the system could potentially monitor anyone else.

I'd say that payments should be outright blocked from the system. Taxi should have to do that separately.

ironhydroxide ,

That's cool. Where at?
I mean, I haven't seen any taxi in a place I've ever visited with an app.

And then there's the issue of knowing what app before you get there, or just trusting the sign on the side of the taxi, and subsequently the app to not farm your data.

ironhydroxide ,

I don't trust Uber either.

ironhydroxide ,

So.
You mean forcing people who:
May not want the child;
Have a barely viable fetus;
Have health complications;
May not be able to afford food;
Etc;
to go through the entire pregnancy and birth a child, results in a greater number of born children dying?
Whodathunk?

ironhydroxide ,

Anymore the military fodder is the happy coincidence, it's the capitalists who need people willing to work hard, for shit wages, and then spend all those wages on rent and food.

ironhydroxide ,

But people better at writing have an advantage, we should only use language, that's a level playing field. /s

ironhydroxide ,

Holy shit, they failed hard.

I'm sure they could have come up with a witty thing with Haim and Harm.

ironhydroxide ,

Five years ago this was valid.
Hell even two years ago.

Today..... You're most likely to get a bullshit sales pitch disguised as a blog that doesn't actually answer any question you asked but has one word in it from your question sentence.

ironhydroxide ,

that he was going to keep believing it anyway because holding onto it made him feel better.

Welcome to religion.

ironhydroxide ,

How is this not considered false advertising?
You go to a shelf and see your favorite snack on sale, you grab it. Finish the rest of your selections and go to check out.

By the time you get there the price of your snack is no longer what was shown on the shelf.

If it isn't false advertising, it's bait and switch.

ironhydroxide ,

Though I agree that it's likely not how they were designed, but capitalists must do a capitalism.

When the fine for doing exactly this, is a small portion of the increased profits (and only after it's discovered, and prosecuted), then it's just another way to do said capitalism.

ironhydroxide ,

I must have east coast birds, they start at 5am

ironhydroxide ,

I store in home Depot containers with desiccant in the bottom.
And have another modified to print from. (Printed spool holder with bearings, reverse Bowden through container side)

It really didn't change my workflow, just where to get the spools to load, and where to load them.

Print quality improved greatly.

ironhydroxide ,

I'm 100% convinced that's the end goal.
Then you can use those "undesirables" for slave labor.

ironhydroxide ,

Gotta hoard all the xp to level up to white.

Doorbell kamera solution

Hi, anyone have any good self hosted solution for a doorbell camera? What I need is to have the option to look at who is at the door and be able to actuate a lock (relay operated). I have a cheap Chinese brand solution, but it uses an unknown cloud solution and is very unreliable. A phone app would be fine, but if there's a...

ironhydroxide ,

Home assistant, and frigate. Along with whatever type of smart lock you choose (even building one with esphome, diy version)

ironhydroxide ,

Not if Drumpf gets the electoral college majority.

ironhydroxide ,

That's after they've proven themselves in the trump youth. Or better said Drumpfjugend.

ironhydroxide ,

The only liquid we've discovered with no surface tension is helium. And only at or below specific temperatures depending on the type of helium.

Very unlikely water would ever get to that state.

ironhydroxide ,

Yup, this is why in my own vehicles I physically disconnect the system that sends these messages.

ironhydroxide ,

There's a sea level canal in Greece, the Corinth canal. And it has pretty strong tidal currents.

I wonder if, hypothetically, we could use such currents for more efficient power generation compared to the current tidal power generation.

ironhydroxide ,

Hopefully he does that thing where both step in the same direction, over and over.

ironhydroxide ,

You sound suspiciously like my coworker. ( my governor as well, sadly enough)

ironhydroxide ,

What, you mean this bag of 80k that somebody dropped at my door? No idea where it came from

ironhydroxide ,

This is what worries me.

Forums were some of the best places to find specific information on niche topics.
Were moderated and controlled in such a way to maintain the information and improve when new information was discovered.

But then social media killed many forums. Along with capitalism.

Many forums emulated social media, until they were no longer forums.

Others went the way of more ads than real posts.

All had their readership decrease, and many lost ability to host due to that.

ironhydroxide ,

Nah, go the other way.
Make voting a requirement. You vote, or you don't participate in society.

ironhydroxide ,

Yes. we. should.

The only reason to restrict voting is to keep "undesirables" from having a say in government.

In a fair government everyone should be represented. The only way to even approach that is to make it a requirement that everyone votes.

ironhydroxide ,

Definitely not a bad idea. But we gotta start somewhere.

Why Megadonors Are Unfazed by Donald Trump’s Guilty Verdict | Money flowed into the former president’s re-election campaign from Wall Street and Silicon Valley following Thursday’s historic conviction ( www.nytimes.com )

With the billionaires backing him, it's going to be on us as individual Americans to make sure Trump doesn't end up in the White House again. That means not just voting but talking with people around you, volunteering and donating

ironhydroxide ,

You mean like when one president got a blowjob? Not even PIV(unprotected and forced I might add).

Definitely picking our best people and holding them accountable. /s

ironhydroxide ,

No. The opposite.
The country impeached a president because he received oral sex.
The same county was ok with nominating a president who has forced himself on multiple women.

ironhydroxide ,

Honestly, I think there's 2 ways to think through this.
Way 1:
Magically the minimum wage is increased, and everything about the legislators stays the same.

This would increase inflation, as what's causing inflation is the lack of legislation and enforcement. Thus allowing companies to raise prices and profits unchecked.

Way 2:
The legislators change in such a way that it's logical and possible to raise the minimum wage. Also logically other legislation would be passed to reduce the unchecked greed.

This would not increase inflation on it's own, and likely would keep it to a healthy minimum.

I think most who complain about the minimum wage talks can only imagine the first way.

ironhydroxide ,

Not saying it's right, but the spacing makes the drastic changes in 19-21 less obvious by spreading them across a wider area. Same with 21-24, just less so.

A consistently spaced graph would probably be more drastic looking.

ironhydroxide ,

Wouldn't it be volume 16,581.375?

Edit: no. I can't math.

ironhydroxide ,

Yep.... I'm an idiot and can't math.
Area bring 51 would mean each side is √51, not 51/2 that I had incorrectly used.

ironhydroxide ,

When was this permission given?
My local news ran this piece as well from politico. And no date was mentioned about when permission was given.

It really feels like the large media conglomerates had this in their back pocket and sat on it until the Drumpf conviction. Makes it a bad attempt to scream "but see, the current president is worse because xxx"

ironhydroxide ,

Thanks for providing more information on it.

Anymore, all media and timing needs verified instead of blindly believing headlines.

ironhydroxide ,

Hey, they've all but admitted a sitting president can't be prosecuted by the courts..... could happen
