What, you mean this bag of 80k that somebody dropped at my door? No idea where it came from

ironhydroxide ,

This is what worries me.

Forums were some of the best places to find specific information on niche topics.
Were moderated and controlled in such a way to maintain the information and improve when new information was discovered.

But then social media killed many forums. Along with capitalism.

Many forums emulated social media, until they were no longer forums.

Others went the way of more ads than real posts.

All had their readership decrease, and many lost ability to host due to that.

ironhydroxide ,

Nah, go the other way.
Make voting a requirement. You vote, or you don't participate in society.

ironhydroxide ,

Yes. we. should.

The only reason to restrict voting is to keep "undesirables" from having a say in government.

In a fair government everyone should be represented. The only way to even approach that is to make it a requirement that everyone votes.

ironhydroxide ,

Definitely not a bad idea. But we gotta start somewhere.

Why Megadonors Are Unfazed by Donald Trump’s Guilty Verdict | Money flowed into the former president’s re-election campaign from Wall Street and Silicon Valley following Thursday’s historic conviction ( www.nytimes.com )

With the billionaires backing him, it's going to be on us as individual Americans to make sure Trump doesn't end up in the White House again. That means not just voting but talking with people around you, volunteering and donating

ironhydroxide ,

You mean like when one president got a blowjob? Not even PIV(unprotected and forced I might add).

Definitely picking our best people and holding them accountable. /s

ironhydroxide ,

No. The opposite.
The country impeached a president because he received oral sex.
The same county was ok with nominating a president who has forced himself on multiple women.

ironhydroxide ,

Honestly, I think there's 2 ways to think through this.
Way 1:
Magically the minimum wage is increased, and everything about the legislators stays the same.

This would increase inflation, as what's causing inflation is the lack of legislation and enforcement. Thus allowing companies to raise prices and profits unchecked.

Way 2:
The legislators change in such a way that it's logical and possible to raise the minimum wage. Also logically other legislation would be passed to reduce the unchecked greed.

This would not increase inflation on it's own, and likely would keep it to a healthy minimum.

I think most who complain about the minimum wage talks can only imagine the first way.

ironhydroxide ,

Not saying it's right, but the spacing makes the drastic changes in 19-21 less obvious by spreading them across a wider area. Same with 21-24, just less so.

A consistently spaced graph would probably be more drastic looking.

ironhydroxide ,

Wouldn't it be volume 16,581.375?

Edit: no. I can't math.

ironhydroxide ,

Yep.... I'm an idiot and can't math.
Area bring 51 would mean each side is √51, not 51/2 that I had incorrectly used.

ironhydroxide ,

When was this permission given?
My local news ran this piece as well from politico. And no date was mentioned about when permission was given.

It really feels like the large media conglomerates had this in their back pocket and sat on it until the Drumpf conviction. Makes it a bad attempt to scream "but see, the current president is worse because xxx"

ironhydroxide ,

Thanks for providing more information on it.

Anymore, all media and timing needs verified instead of blindly believing headlines.

ironhydroxide ,

Hey, they've all but admitted a sitting president can't be prosecuted by the courts..... could happen

ironhydroxide ,

Sounds like a market niche, you could start it up, call it something like "macrosoft". .. then start making scripts that do the work for the user, don't release the scripts because people pay for them. Let this go on for many years and you find yourself shoving "AI" down your users throats and screenshotting their desktop without explicit permission......

Are there any EV cars without any "technology"?

Like the title says, are there any EVs that just have a Bluetooth radio and that's it? Like a normal car, not a smartphone on wheels? If not, do you all think that this will actually happen at some point? This is the main reason why I can't (and will never) buy an EV. I like to have actual buttons everywhere on my car. I think...

ironhydroxide ,

Fiat 500e first gen and Nissan volt first gen.

Pretty much it unless diy

ironhydroxide ,

Is it an external leak? Or an internal one?

IE is it leaking into the fuel vessel and pressurizing it unintentionally? Or just leaking to external "void" space?

ironhydroxide ,

It's likely a utility law, that states any connection for drinking or food use must be potable. And a hose doesn't qualify.

Yes it's technically about safety. But in that instance it's used to punish the poor.

ironhydroxide ,

What cops actually mean is "They wouldn't have been shot if they were just part of the owning class instead of the working class."

ironhydroxide ,

In that case India would be a ton of tiny nations as well.

ironhydroxide ,

Except for the one with Europe. It's semi-continent in-continent

ironhydroxide ,

Good example of two people in a team acting their wage.

ironhydroxide ,

This. Is. Awesome.

Good on her; for doing whatever was reasonable.
For making an informed decision.
For following the approved methods.
And for sticking it out.

We "put down" pets when their suffering is too much, why can't we let people make that same decision for themselves? Luckily the Dutch can.

ironhydroxide ,

I escaped it by ensuring I don't have kids.

Server as heating device - how do I do this?

So I have this silly idea/longterm project of wanting to run a server on renewables on my farm. And I would like to reuse the heat generated by the server, for example to heat a grow room, or simply my house. How much heat does a server produce, and where would you consider it best applied? Has anyone built such a thing?

ironhydroxide ,

As far as heating efficiency goes, servers aren't really that good. 100% efficiency as all the electricity they use ends up as heat.
Compare with heat pumps that can get 300+% efficiency.

What I do is have my server in the same "room" as my water heater (share airspace), and use a heat pump electric water heater.

At least then all the heat my server makes is used for something good, instead of extra AC usage in summer (winter is a wash, as I need the heat in the house anyways)

Obscure screw added so appliance cannot be disassembled ( lemmy.world )

Basic blender went bad (motor ran but spindle wasn't rotating). I wanted to disassemble to see if it could be repaired. Three of the four screws were Phillips head. I had to cut the casing open in order to discover why I couldn't unscrew the fourth. It was a slotted spanner.

ironhydroxide ,

$10 says it was recessed before op cut the base off, making it impossible without damage to slot the screw with a Dremel.

ironhydroxide ,

Yes, but you see, the legislators need the police to protect them from the unwashed masses. But the legislators don't want to have to pay the police themselves, so how do they compensate the police for the extra protection? By leaving asset forfeiture in place; Legislators don't have to do anything, and get benefit from it. Police only have to claim your property is guilty of being involved in a crime, and boom, it's theirs now.

ironhydroxide ,

The Romans really turned around that archaic Latin.

ironhydroxide ,

Because his city told him he has to have the fence. They wouldn't have done that without a law on the books that says he had to.
Politics is governing, and part of that is making laws. Therefores it's a political statement to technically follow the letter of the law, while disregarding the probable purpose of the law.

ironhydroxide ,

Because trumps base doesn't have a long memory. They only remember the " is now a felon" from the sentence "this guy did what trump asked and because of this is now a felon"

ironhydroxide ,

I bet they started before the supreme court was openly stacked.

ironhydroxide ,

Or option 4: everyone brings some ingredients, or skills, and we all bake varying cakes which are then enjoyed by all, because it's a cooperating group that doesn't give one asshole all the cake that's baked.

ironhydroxide ,

Nah, Just claim you'll give them enough to one day hope to have as much cake as you, then only let small crumbs fall so the government has to step in and feed them for you.

ironhydroxide ,

As little as needed. No reason to force people to sit around acting like they're baking cake.

ironhydroxide ,

That would be terrible? What are some prompts so I can be sure not to use them?

ironhydroxide ,

Soon as those hurdles are surmounted, armies will train then freeze conscripts. Only thawing when they need meat for the grinder, or when better weapons come out that need more training.

That's the only way they get brought back en masse.

ironhydroxide ,

Now this is an application of "AI" that makes sense to me.

ironhydroxide ,

There is no pizza acceptable to eat with fork and knife.

ironhydroxide ,

They can't opt out, but HE can.

We just need to convince him that they're spying for the libs or some shit.

ironhydroxide ,

It becomes less baffling when you realize they are of the mindset that the ones making the laws are inherently different and the laws don't apply. That they're making those laws "for their own good"(meaning the people not lawmakers).

It's confusing, and essentially cognitive dissonance, but it's definitely there.

ironhydroxide ,

Penguins are rapey, one of the first to study and record penguin activity didn't think "unlearned"people were fit to read such "filth".

ironhydroxide ,

Holy shit this.
And not even "educated" people.
Where I work is about half degree holding engineers... many of these engineers were seen outside staring at the partial eclipse Monday.

ironhydroxide ,

Hard to bring anything up in court when you're dead.
The cops know this.
