reagan did the same thing with iran during the hostage crisis while carter was president. they asked iran to keep the hostages until the election was over to ensure reagan won. so there is a history of it with the gop. if i recall correctly, rumsfeld and cheney were involved. none of the them were ever held to account or punished.

we have lots of precedent for that when it comes to politicians. tons.
