    My vet tech wife thinks it abcesses from an older dog bite. She believes there would be more damage from a gunshot.

    But an abcess would be a round, symmetrical wound and if it was from a bite it explains why there would be another on the other side. There should also be scabs next to the abcesses from the other two canine teeth.

    BB guns don't go all the way through. She also knows that from personal experience.

    But the abcesses bursting also means the infection has passed and the wounds should heal.

    I'm almost 50 and I feel terribly sorry for absolutely anyone younger than me for what's been done to the world.

    I do have a house... but will also probably never retire. I don't envision a long life in part because of climate change and all the reactionary politics that have come with it. (I wanted to add that I'm not sorry to the alt-right kids but... did the world leave them better outlets?)

    It's fucked. I didn't break it and can't afford to buy it.

    I hope the ants can do well in the inevitable war against the cockroaches.

    Oh shit no, I'm not aiming anything back at you. I'm frustrated at the two prior generations, as are most people in the world.

    I'm pissed at the tax cuts for billionaires and their ability to warp our institutions to their interests.

    I don't know how to stop, avert, even slow their efforts. I understand the helplessness you all feel but don't have solutions either.

    Because there aren't any. I couldn't prescribe one nor detail half a dozen potential ones. Maybe I'll be here to push one forward.

    I hate to say it but Pandora has been useful here, when it actually finds similar sounding bands rather than just bands from the same era.

    I was a student for many years (5 years of undergrad, 2.5 years of grad school), and I became very comfortable with always being able to look at the syllabus and my grade and know what I needed to do and how well I was performing.     Get to know the people you work with and learn who you can bounce ideas off of.

    Once you have a couple of work friends you can more easily figure out what those around you think of you.

    I was in school while working (in my 40s no less) and as part of my classes I was asked to poll my coworkers about my strengths and weaknesses.

    I learned that I was liked, valued, and that it was noticed when I was out sick, which was often.

    It really helped me as I just assumed nobody really noticed me at all.

    Chances are that you are the one judging yourself.

    Also, be the one who speaks up in meetings. It helps give others permission to speak up as well.

    I moved to a knockoff trackball (Nulea) that's considerably better so far, simply because I went through two trackballs in three years.

    Mouse wheel on one, power failure on the other. The second one my cats kept knocking to the floor so I can't really blame Logitech on that one but with the Nulea one it really hit home that Logitech doesn't refine their designs any longer.

    Every time you remember something you also remember having remembered it.

    The act of recalling a memory overwrites it.

    So if you start taking the time to laugh at those embarrassing memories and practice some self-forgiveness, it really can pay off down the road.

    Most the stuff I used to beat myself up for from my childhood I now look back at what a WEIRD kid I was and just laugh it off.

    I listened to NPR the other day. They read off research by The Heritage Foundation with no analysis at all and then thanked them at the end.

    NPR aims to be middle of the road but doesn't mind that it's in the ditch.

    It's a philosophical movie about breaking yourself apart and rebuilding yourself consciously.

    Not hard to understand why so many people don't get that part of it. It's a deeply introspective movie, not just about sweaty guys fighting each other.

    I got a great story out of the meeting as I was there for a signing and brought two t-shirts from chuckpalahiuk.net.

    The guy who ran the website wrote a screenplay and Chuck allowed him to sell the shirts and run a contest to fund the project. First prize?

    You get a character named after you in Chuck's next book.

    I get to the front of the line and reveal that my paper bag has t-shirts in it.

    Now Chuck knows the stakes and he asks me my name.

    "I hope you lose."

    It's better with my real name, which is really clumsy. And I did lose but got a story from it.

    I've really wanted to learn Delta Green so I can run a SCP story I love (What Happened to Site 13?) and at the end the site teleports out of the world.

    Then I'd run a fantasy campaign that is cleaning up the mess they left in the Delta Green one.

    I was amazed at how few people thought she was a plant.

    It's not that hard to get someone in a mod position. Then they just have to be a whackjob on air. Mission accomplished.

    Vaguely similar to the Occupy Wall Street protests. Interview several people across the country then cherry pick the ways they disagree with each other to call it a disunified movement. All you really need is one discordant voice.
