/ Are Jewish Organizations supporting TikTok to suppress criticism of Israel?

One of America's largest pro-Israel Jewish organizations, the Jewish Federations of North America (), has voiced support for a proposed ban on the popular video-sharing app in the US. The JFNA cited concerns over alleged and growing criticism of Israel among TikTok's predominantly young user base.

The JFNA, an umbrella group representing numerous American Jewish organizations known for their strong support of Israel, launched a $700 million fundraising drive for Israeli groups, including the controversial first responder organization , in the wake of the war in Gaza.

Critics argue that supporters of Israel are weaponizing accusations of antisemitism to defend Israel's actions in Gaza and criminalize pro-Palestinian voices, including on social media platforms like TikTok. They claim that TikTok has been an important tool for activists and users to expose atrocities in Gaza and condemn Israel's actions.

Democrats are better than Republicans for the climate, right?

Yes, of course. Obviously.

Democrats are good for the climate, right?

Nope, that's not true. Although Democrats are better than Republicans on climate issues, they are still taking us in the wrong direction, eager to support Business As Usual.

HEADLINE: "US spends billions on roads rather than public transport in climate time bomb"

Roads, roads and more roads. The US is continuing to spend billions of dollars on expanding enormous highways rather than fund public transport, with a landmark infrastructure bill lauded by Joe Biden only further accelerating the dominance of cars at the expense, critics say, of communities and the climate.

Since the passage of the enormous $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure law in 2021, hailed by Biden as a generational effort to upgrade the US’s crumbling bridges, roads, ports, and public transit, money has overwhelmingly poured into the maintenance and widening of roads rather than improving the threadbare network of bus, rail, and cycling options available to Americans, a new analysis has found.

This spending is a “climate time bomb”, according to the new Transportation for America analysis, which calculates that more than 178 million tons of greenhouse gases will be emitted due to planned highway expansions by 2040.

“Nothing is fundamentally changing in terms of modes of transport," said Corrigan Salerno, policy associate at Transportation for America. "This much money going into highway expansion is, for one, a liability into the future, and two, it just doesn’t work. We’ve been expanding highways for decades on decades, and everyone consistently finds themselves stuck in traffic.”

The result is that the US will generate more emissions from transport — already its largest source of planet-heating gases — as a result of the infrastructure bill than if it hadn’t passed, according to Salerno. “You have to essentially walk down this giant cliff of emissions that we’re creating into the future because once these highways are built, there’s not really an easy way back from that,” he said.

I was already skeptical about the “pause” in approval of new LNG export facilities announced recently by Joe Biden. My suspicion is that it’s merely a cynical vote-getting tactic and that those projects will still get the go-ahead once he wins a second term as President. (If Trump wins, of course, they’re sure to go through.)

But now another piece of the puzzle is falling into place. Some of Biden’s rich friends in the fossil fuel industry might have given him permission to take that expedient step because they already have a different plan for making billions of dollars in profits — by exporting gas through pipelines via Mexico.

As soon as next year, the United States’ fossil fuel industry will gain its first foothold on a valuable shortcut to sell natural gas to Asia. The shortcut goes straight through Mexico.

The new route could cut travel times to energy-hungry Asian nations roughly in half by piping the gas to a shipping terminal on Mexico’s Pacific Coast.

Besides being closer to Texan gas fields than California, Mexico’s less stringent environmental rules and cheaper construction costs are some of the reasons these export terminals are being proposed there rather than the U.S. West Coast. But analysts say that these terminals are essentially American ones: They are mostly owned, operated, and supplied by U.S. gas companies.

You see? It’s the Golden Rule: Those who have the gold make the rules. And in the system we currently have, the capitalists will always win.

#Biden / In Private Remarks to Arab Americans, Biden Aide Expresses Regrets on Gaza

In a private meeting with Arab American leaders on Thursday, Deputy National Security Adviser Jon Finer acknowledged that the Biden administration made mistakes in its response to the Gaza war that has killed over 27,000 Palestinians since October 2022.

“We have left a very damaging impression based on what has been a wholly inadequate public accounting for how much the president, the administration and the country values the lives of Palestinians. And that began, frankly, pretty early in the conflict.”

Finer admitted the U.S. failed to properly convey the value it places on Palestinian lives. He expressed regret over the White House statement on the 100-day mark of the conflict that did not mention Palestinian casualties. Finer also said the administration should have faster condemned dehumanizing rhetoric by Israeli officials comparing Gazans to "animals."

Today, there are around 1.31 billion personal vehicles (cars, trucks, and SUVs) in the world. 🚙 Of those, only about 2% are hybrid or electric. The other 98% are ICE vehicles burning gasoline/petrol.

By 2050, it’s estimated we’ll have about 2.21 billion vehicles in the world. That’s a HUGE number, almost 70% greater than today.

But how many of those will be electric? Instead of only 2%, it’s expected they will increase to around 31% of the total.

That sounds great! 😃 More EVs is a good thing, right?

Well, if 31% are EVs in 2050, that means the other 69% will still be ICE vehicles burning gas/petrol. So the number of cars and trucks and SUVs burning fossil fuels will go UP from 1.28 billion now to about 1.52 billion by 2050.

    That’s… not so good. 😠

We don’t need more cars, more traffic, more congestion, more pollution, more road damage, and more CO2 emissions.

From there you could travel to cities like Chicago and Detroit. The town had a hotel, town hall, post office, several stores, and a school. After General Motors bought up all the trolley and rail services they could find and shut them down, everything is gone except the post office and there are less than 500 people living there.
