Infant deaths increased after Texas banned abortion in early pregnancy ( www.statnews.com )

Among the causes of infant deaths, one increased the most: congenital abnormalities, which increased 22.9% in Texas in children between 2021 and 2022, while they decreased 2.9% in the rest of the country. That trend suggests that at least in some cases, parents were forced to carry a pregnancy to term while knowing their...

They'll just include them in the # of births category without pointing to survivability.

It's Walmart. They are one of the scummiest around. They nickel and dime everything and everyone.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Article doesn't come up for me. However, I wouldn't be surprised if this was the brainchild of those farts in the Trump administration who thought the virus would kill off Democrat voters and were happy to see response slowed.

CluelessLemmyng ,

That will backfire if his son gets convicted.

CluelessLemmyng ,

If they're still voting for him, being non preferred isn't exactly a damning opinion.

CluelessLemmyng ,

The cynic in me says these articles are all about fear mongering to permanently increase spend baselines in the MIC. Another part of me is saying that the industrial shortcomings are great to highlight and beef up now to ensure a deterrence and capacity for any conflict where the US is obligated to participate in (such as Taiwan).

CluelessLemmyng ,

I'm waiting for the whole "Our founding fathers were criminals, and we elected them to represent us, so what's wrong with me" type of argument.

CluelessLemmyng ,

I think that's why he switched. If he runs again, he loses the D next to his name on the ballot, thereby convincing his constituents he's not a Democrat in the vilified label that the Conservatives throw around, especially in a state as red as West Virginia.

It may actually get him to be re elected, allowing him to caucus with the Democrats without being seen as one.

From my understanding, most Catholic schools are very good about core curriculums. They just fail abysmally at sex education.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Pretty sure we knew this was coming. Bunch of articles last year or the year before that stating that SSD prices were going to climb if not skyrocket.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Do you all not have self control and know the concept of leftovers?

CluelessLemmyng ,

Every single port, cable, switch and router between your fiber ONT to your laptop has to support that bandwidth. What model is your laptop? What model is your router?

When you say directly connect to the router, are you physically right next to the router testing the speed? Or are you plugging your laptop into ports installed throughout your home?

CluelessLemmyng ,

Yeah but Biden and the Democrats haven't done enough. We should not vote so that all others suffer my spite. /s

Does anyone else ever just realize that you're not even sure why you want a relationship at all?

As I've gained more and more close friends, more than I've ever had in my life, and some closer than I've ever had in my life, I've come to realize something recently. Despite the prevailing feeling like I want a relationship, I don't actually know why it is I want one, nor what I have to gain from one....

CluelessLemmyng , (edited )

So I see where you're coming from. If your group of friends can collectively address all your needs, you would really feel like you don't need a romantic partner. And maybe you don't, which is perfectly fine.

I don't know where you are in your life. Personally, I'm in my 30s, and I've had close friends that have come and go. I grew up with making and losing friends constantly like any kid who had a military parent. All of this is to provide a bit perspective for when I say that (at least in my experience) friends don't stay. There isn't a reason for them to put you first in their lives. As they get more involved in new or existing relationships of their own, romantic or otherwise, there will be drifting and shifting of priorities. And unless you're really good at making friends, it gets harder to make friends as you get older.

A romantic partner is supposed to put you first on that list of social priorities and for a very long time. And it's that feeling of counting on someone to be there for you when you need it that provides a sense of safety and comfort when your overall social network changes.

CluelessLemmyng ,

If you feel safe and stable now, then keep doing what you're doing. There's no shame in just living the life you enjoy. And I hope you didn't need to feel like you have to defend your lifestyle and relationships to me.

I just wanted to come from angle where my perspective is both from a potentially different upbringing and life experience and what having a romantic partner means to me.

All anyone should want for another person is for them to be happy.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Y'all are not cynical enough. It may be possible they simply didn't have someone go "Don't forget about this" but this little snafu will be twisted by them saying "See? These liberals aren't even allowing Trump on the ballot!"

Even though it isn't true, it's just another thing they will try to use to rile up their voters.

Do I need a new phone for 2FA? (Tad Long)

So recently my work, a mid sized engineering firm, decided to start upgrading their IT security. The rumor is that we have potential DOD work coming our way. Over the past few months there has been multiple company decided changes to our 2 factor authentication mobile app. I willingly installed the app on my phone over a year...

CluelessLemmyng ,

Likely this. If they need to be FIDO2 compliant, then OTP and TOTP will be blocked. Personally, I would demand a company-provided phone for work.

Please, for the love of God, VOTE! ( pawb.social )

I don't like Biden either, but anyone with half a brain knows there are two choices in the 2020 election. If we had a sane voting system, voting third party might be worth it, but as it stands, no one but you knows your favorite candidate exists and unless you want to become their campaign manager that will still be true in...

How is Trump who supports genocide abroad AND at home better?

CluelessLemmyng ,

In September of 2023, I was prepared to vote blue in my State of Virginia, where we had a Red governor, a Blue Senate, and a Red House with the legislature seats all up for grabs. Now the legislative branch is Blue and the Governor is kept firmly in check and unlikely to run for President any longer.

And I never acknowledged Biden supported genocide; merely pointing out your fallacy in supporting actual genocide. In fact, the actions of the Biden administration to Palestinians in the US is contrary to your claims of the administration supporting genocide: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/biden-protects-palestinian-immigrants-in-u-s-from-deportation-israel-hamas-war/

CluelessLemmyng ,

The full report is interesting. I was going to argue about minimum wage increases, but the report already accounted for that by highlighting significant wage growth for the lowest percentile in states that still followed federal minimum wage.

Still, it'd be nice to know what the absolute values are. % are less impactful with lower numbers.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Yep. The winning strategy has been shown by democratic wins in purple states last November. Virginia was a very even race and the Dems took back the legislature without even mentioning threat to Democracy. The issues matter and the GOP has provided more than enough ammunition to point out why they're the wrong choice for those issues.

CluelessLemmyng ,

I had to stop reading the article here:

"There is nothing in Senators Johnson and Grassley’s reports on Biden family corruption that has ever proven to be untrue,” the spokesperson said. “

This is the kind of nonsense we have to legitimately call out. The accusations need to be proven true in the first place. The spokesperson is especially silly since they also called Parnas statements a lie... Without providing proof themselves.

CluelessLemmyng ,

It's no different than subscribing to twitch/YouTube creators. The content is just different. There are plenty of people with unhealthy obsessions that aren't related to porn.

About time. Maybe the maps will be updated correctly and people can now see just how pathetic those ISPs have been.

When anyone anywhere can easily make TV & movies, will America lose its greatest source of soft power - exporting its culture via Hollywood?

A combination of millions of people with production skills in California, and a huge domestic market able to spend billions has fuelled one of America's biggest exports - TV & Movies. They're not the biggest exports in dollar amounts, petroleum brings in almost 50 times more, but they give America something else apart from money...

CluelessLemmyng ,

Sort of but it will be because of the rise of India and China's film industry and even then, those two industries have shoe-horned themselves into a stereotype for their films with musical numbers and party-approved only content, respectively.

One of the most difficult barriers to culture soft power is language. America capitalized early on that English is the most common tongue to communicate in across the world. So the barrier to introduce new media is easier.

That being said, Hollywood adapts to what the people want. Have you noticed that fewer blockbusters are singularly "America! Fuck yeah!" focused? More and more films from Hollywood have foreign, English as a second/third language actors, exotic foreign locations, and are less likely to contain villains of specific countries?

In short, Hollywood's soft power is changing to be liked more in other cultures, but until large film industries like China and India are less domestic-focused, it isn't going to be dethroned anytime soon.

CluelessLemmyng ,

The article doesn't provide the poll and doesn't reference any numbers, just three names. Schiff, Porter, and Garvey. Seeing as how Garvey is the only Republican, and how blue California is, it is more likely that the poll shows Garvey in top because there is still a primary and the polls are split on the Democrat side.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Most of the tax goes to Healthcare and Social Security, 45% of the budget. Defense is 13%.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Even if there was another candidate, I 100% guarantee you that they would still support Israel. It's not a candidate issue, it's an American policy issue, one that can only really change by getting new blood in politics. And let's face it, it's not exactly like new blood is lining up to get into politics.

So... Fuck your single-voter minded argument and look at the bigger picture.

These are all memes created and disseminated by GOP-affiliates trying to make Taylor Swift look bad in hopes that her influence on young voters (who are generally are more environmental friendly) to go out and vote in the upcoming Presidential elections won't be as impactful.

She's trying to position herself for Vice President candidate since it's becoming clear she can't win the primary.

No... Because China is claiming an island that is nowhere near their internationally recognized borders and on an island they don't even have people on...

I'm not really an economics expert, but would China get around tariffs and restrictions by going through Mexico?

The article suggests Iran is losing its influence on its proxies. That's an interesting take, but I wouldn't hold my breath that it would help simmer things down.

What "methods" did they use to pay? I'm missing a little bit of context.

It's going to come down to Abortion, Education, and Store prices during the general election. Most Americans are not invested in Israel or Ukraine.

If prices come down before Nov, Biden should win based on how Virginia turned out during it's latest election. But it will be a close election.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Wow... TPP took a look of votes away from DPP. And only one election cycle away. That's impressive if not suspicious.

CluelessLemmyng ,

Using a third party to siphon votes from a popular party to get the second party in power is common. It doesn't take much stretch of the imagination to wonder if TPP is propped by CCP funds and influence.

Reading the article, it appears to be one of those "Aha! Gotcha!" cries in an attempt to equate the proposed removal of the Penn statue to the removal of the Confederate statues.

Not the case. NPS wants to rehabilitate the park to pay homage to the purpose of the land as provisioned by Penn's grandson - for native Americans to sign treaties.

The only real issue is that NPS proposed to remove the statue and nearby building without reconstructing it. And it's a proposal...proposals can change.

Vatican says no heresy in allowing blessings for same-sex couples after pushback by some bishops ( apnews.com )
