@BeamMeOut What I find annoying is lack of messaging apps in ports on #OpenBSD. I'd love it if there was a #Signal app, but there isn't. People's consensus for running it seems to be, “VM + X11 forwarding” - there's some kind of a virtualisation mechanism baked into OpenBSD. I wonder whether that's a good way forward? Dockerising / Virtualising stuff that you can't run by default…?

tl;dr: please check that both options in settings > privacy > phone number are set to "nobody"
if "who can find me by my number" is "everyone" (the default), signal will reveal the association of your account and number to group members who already know your number, which, considering the possibility of schools collaborating with police and providing student info, may or may not be a plausible way to de-anonymize you!

#Ukraine Considers Banning #Telegram if App is Confirmed as “Threat to National Security”
The Ukrainian parliament has been studying a bill since last week that threatens to shut Telegram down.
The measure, which has proven very unpopular but has garnered the support of deputies from four political groups in the Rada – 72% of Ukrainians use Telegram as their main source of information, a study found last year.
Ukrainian citizens can currently consult Telegram without limits, as opposed to surfing the internet or following news outlets regulated by Kiev’s media law.
PS. #France has quietly pushed blocking of telegram channels, the same in #Sweden and #Germany. But the app itself is still not banned here.
Within the app I sent some feedback and questions regarding their beta app and received an e-mail back which didn’t apply and didn’t address my enquiry. So I responded only to receive a message back that e-mail responses aren’t allowed and to start a new request through the app. This despite that their actual e-mail says to respond to the e-mail.
