A very large tree stump in an old growth forest. The trunk has broken off the base of the stump about 10 feet above the ground. The forest floor behind the stump is now exposed to sunlight and a small patch of ferns are illuminated on the right of the stump. Small mushrooms and moss and ferns adorn the base of the stump.

    Some cute little mushrooms growing in the side of an old tree stump. Makes me think of a little mossy cave that the mushrooms live in, and they're peering out from the front to see if it's raining...

    Macro shot of a Brood XIX Cicada. I'm not particularly good at macro photography, but I think this one turned out pretty well.

    A close-up macro photo of a Brood XIX cicada on a mossy driveway. The Cicada is facing to the right, its shape is mostly in focus, but the outer edge around its head and back are somewhat blurred. Their right eye is deep red, with a blurry black dot in the middle. You can just barely see some of their left eye. Their legs are a brownish orange color, with a black band just below their "knee" (I don't know the proper name, feel free to share if you know it). The opaque parts of their wings that connect to their abdomen are a bright orange color, that slowly fades and transitions to black as it goes further down the wing. The wings are segmented, with clear window-like structures between the opaque bits. They are beautiful.

    diese weinbergschnecke fiel mir auf, weil sie sich so arg lang machte



    eine weinbergschnecke kriecht einen vollständig mit moos bewachsenen baumstumpf hinauf. dabei mach sie sich sehr lang, wird dünn und der fuß wird am rand flach und lappig, wirft da wellen. das moos ist am unteren ende des baumstumpfes noch kurzflorig, oben aber bemerkenswert üppig und langfiedrig.

    a number of "turkey tail" mushrooms growing in a confined space of an exposed tree stump (I'm told this is an infrequent choice of location for these?), featuring lush furry stripes of greens, rusts, and whites
    more "turkey tail" mushrooms on a fallen log, their more common location, these ones with a more uniform palette of golds and browns to match the log they're growing from
