I had some pots that weren’t doing anything, so I did a “dump it out and look”. Mostly things were growing but slowly. Two had literally nothing except moss on top. I’m pretty sure it was intentional rather than attrition. Moss is cool?
Hello, #mosstodon! I am a desert-dweller, so never expected to be blessed with some mosses, but check out this beauty that came home with me in a plant I bought yesterday!
I finally made the trek to meet Bruunidun. She’s a #ThomasDambo giant #troll making her home next to Puget Sound in Lincoln Park in West Seattle. Idun is playing a troll sized flute to call home native #Orcas.
I thought I had read some article a while back (within last 5 years?) that was challenging the concept of lichen as a “pioneer species” for breaking down bare rock.
Just some trumpet cup lichen (Cladonia fimbriata) growing on a cobblestone I salvaged from Thomas Street during the construction of the REI Flagship store back in 1994. This is a common lichen here west of the Cascades. Grows on just about any substrate - wood, bark, soil, asphalt, roofing, fiberglass, brick, and in this photo a street cobblestone probably Wilkeson sandstone. #lichen#lichensubscribe#Mosstodon#macro#macrophotography#nature#naturephotography#photography#PNW#GooglePixel
