This is a view of them from above. There are also some orchid plants on the sides of the trunk.

You can find moss on the bark of roadside trees, in school yards, under concrete walls and in other familiar places. When you look at it with a loupe up close, it looks like a forest! Various kinds of moss grow in mixtures, each with its own unique and exquisite appearance. Its appearance has hardly changed since 400 million years ago.

    I mentioned walls of moss, but I am tragically unable to choose just one picture worth my delight at this short but intensely mossy path. You can breathe the green just looking at the pictures.

    Photography of a straight forest path surrounded by natural, uneven rock walls/embankments 2 to 3 meters high. The rock is not actually visible because it is covered in a thick layer of moss and a few additional plants here and there. Trees with thin trunks and green leaves are growing at the top of the embankments on both sides.

    A Green Frog is sitting on the moss covered rock with pinkish blossom petals scattered around it. The frog has a Mosquito sitting on top of it which looks kind of cute!

    Portraits of some of the recent lichens I've met. My guesses as to IDs:

    • Flavoparmelia caperata
    • A nice moss that looks like asparagus tips, with Xanthoria parietina & physcia adscendens (?) growing through / around it
    • Parmotrema, physcia & candelariella
    • Caloplaca species

    Sexy time among the moss along #ClearCreekTrail. I noticed one of the capsules looks like a gulper eel (#2 is a closer crop on #1). I'm not very familiar with mosses. Is that what the capsule typically looks like before/after it releases its spores?
