The refusing to take yes for an answer on the cruel policies they've been pushing since Biden's election because they want to run on the issue--at Trump's urging--gives Dems a great opportunity to change that discussion but they don't seem to have the message discipline to make it work.

Arnie Arnesen explains to Amy Goodman why "MAGA Polite" (Haley) lost so badly to MAGA (Trump) in New Hampshire. As he says, New Hampshire is a state Haley should have won easily"

"We are a highly educated, rich, white state that doesn’t go to church. OK? I mean, compared to Iowa, we are probably the second least church state in the country. And when you look at all those pieces, Amy, she should have won."

The Koch brothers poured tons of money into Haley's campaign. The weather cooperated. Yet: "This state was designed for Nikki Haley. If there was a state she could win in, in the entire United States, it was this state, and she still lost by 11 points."

Because "Republicans today are MAGA Republicans. They are not Republicans; they’re MAGA Republicans. …

They don’t need facts. They just need [Trump]."

BANNED FOR LIFE!

Donald Trump should be banned for life from the real estate industry, New York Attorney General Letitia James' office has argued in a court filing.

Colleen Faherty, a lawyer in James' office, submitted a letter to the judge in Trump's New York fraud case requesting that he stop Trump from ever working in the real estate industry again.

Andrew Gawthorpe notes that "for decades, Republican elites have believed they could channel and control the populism and bigotry of their party’s base." The biogtry was used to keep them voting Republican, but wasn't supposed to be the tail wagging the dog — at least, not out in the open.

But then along came Donald Trump. And when DeSantis offered the base a "lite" version of Trump, they base replied: Nothing doing We want Trump.

The unhinged style of communication, the self-pitying beefs with 'the establishment', the unfiltered racism and bigotry – these are the essence of Trumpism, not paraphernalia which can be discarded."

    TRUMP GAG UPHELD!

A federal appeals court on Tuesday DENIED Donald Trump's request for it to reconsider its decision mostly upholding the partial gag order against the former president in the Washington, D.C. election subversion case.

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals denied the former president's request in a one-page order issued Tuesday.

A wave of protests continues in Germany against the activities of far-right forces and the right-wing populist pro-Russian party Alternative for Germany (AfD)

More than 80 protests against right-wing forces were registered across the country over the weekend. According to Tagesschau, the day before, in Potsdam, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock joined the protests.

1/2 The United States Dept of War produced a film called “Don’t be a sucker” in 1947 specifically addressing the tenets of Nazisim and fascism in a bid to prevent this from happening again.

It’s amazing that almost 80 years later, that we are having the same conversation (about Nazis)

Not long ago, Sanders used to be ridiculed for such disquieting rhetoric; he was denounced as a firebrand, a rabble-rouser. No one’s laughing at him now. Two wars, a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in , vast swathes of North literally burning, inequality between rich and poor at mind-sizzling levels. As the New Yorker memorably noted, “reality has endorsed Bernie Sanders”.
    ...
"(Sanders) invokes his seven grandchildren, and laments that they will inherit a world that faces “more urgent and undeniable crises than at any time in modern history”. I ask him to spell that out. “We’re looking at a series of extraordinary crises. : it’s up in the air whether the world community will make the cuts in to provide a habitable for our grandchildren. The growth of : a small number of extremely wealthy people control the and political life of billions. : under severe threat from those capitalising on people’s fears.”

"Sanders has long had the measure of Trump. In 2016, when Trump said, “I alone can fix it,” as he accepted the Republican presidential nomination, Sanders commented: “Is this guy running for president or dictator?” Two months before the 2020 election, he predicted that a defeated Trump might not go peaceably – another portent that was dramatically fulfilled."

Donald Trump's followers have considered him "sent by God" for some time; now the Trump campaign itself has released a video claiming "God made Trump". Historically, rhetoric like this and last week's "I AM YOUR RETRIBUTION!" email get followers ready to commit violence. This is not a good sign.

Trump voters are those “Americans” who can’t escape the sleeplessness and anxiety that come with imagining how much “better” their miserable lives would be had the Union not crushed the Confederacy, and had the Allies not handed Hitler his ass.
