We should do the same in the US!

A wave of protests continues in Germany against the activities of far-right forces and the right-wing populist pro-Russian party Alternative for Germany (AfD)

More than 80 protests against right-wing forces were registered across the country over the weekend. According to Tagesschau, the day before, in Potsdam, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Foreign Minister Annalena Bärbock joined the protests.

1/2 The United States Dept of War produced a film called “Don’t be a sucker” in 1947 specifically addressing the tenets of Nazisim and fascism in a bid to prevent this from happening again.

It’s amazing that almost 80 years later, that we are having the same conversation (about Nazis)

"‘It will be the end of ’: on what happens if wins – and how to stop him - Interview with Bernie in today's very, very well worth a read because it is absolutely spot on.

"He’s the leftwing outsider who nearly became the ’ candidate for president - twice. As his position on the Israel-Gaza war threatens to upset his support, the veteran senator says he’s tired but determined to fight the return of that ‘ bitter, humiliated man’"
    ...
Not long ago, Sanders used to be ridiculed for such disquieting rhetoric; he was denounced as a firebrand, a rabble-rouser. No one’s laughing at him now. Two wars, a humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in , vast swathes of North literally burning, inequality between rich and poor at mind-sizzling levels. As the New Yorker memorably noted, “reality has endorsed Bernie Sanders”.
    ...
"(Sanders) invokes his seven grandchildren, and laments that they will inherit a world that faces “more urgent and undeniable crises than at any time in modern history”. I ask him to spell that out. “We’re looking at a series of extraordinary crises. : it’s up in the air whether the world community will make the cuts in to provide a habitable for our grandchildren. The growth of : a small number of extremely wealthy people control the and political life of billions. : under severe threat from those capitalising on people’s fears.”

"Sanders has long had the measure of Trump. In 2016, when Trump said, “I alone can fix it,” as he accepted the Republican presidential nomination, Sanders commented: “Is this guy running for president or dictator?” Two months before the 2020 election, he predicted that a defeated Trump might not go peaceably – another portent that was dramatically fulfilled."

@philip_cardella True. Whatever their reasons, they are totally wrong, and should check themselves, before they wreck themselves. The Deplorables may THINK they would enjoy cheering on Democrats being summarily executed, or minorities being gassed in Nazi death-camps, but I can assure them it's not as great as they imagine it will be.

Donald Trump's followers have considered him "sent by God" for some time; now the Trump campaign itself has released a video claiming "God made Trump". Historically, rhetoric like this and last week's "I AM YOUR RETRIBUTION!" email get followers ready to commit violence. This is not a good sign.

Distressed about the poor media coverage of the movement?

What Trump can’t eat, sit on, piss on, shit on, control, own, sell, or fuck, he resolves to destroy. One such thing: U.S. democracy.

Republicans aren’t running for public office to preserve, protect, and defend our democracy. They’re hoping to destroy our democracy with little to no resistance, from the inside. They’ve committed themselves to weakening and dismantling U.S. government, its institutions, and its defenses.

Lawrence W. Britt: 14 Characteristics of

" studied the fascist regimes of (Germany), (Italy), (Spain), (Indonesia), and (Chile) and found they had 14 elements in common. He calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism.

    1. Powerful and Continuing
Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

    2. Disdain for the Recognition of
Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of “need.” The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, and long incarcerations of prisoners.

    3. Identification of / as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: , or ; ; ; ,

    4. Supremacy of the
Even when there are widespread problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

    5. Rampant
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional roles are made more rigid. Opposition to is high, as is and anti- legislation.

    6. Controlled
Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation or by sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Government and especially in war time, are very common.

    7. Obsession with
Fear of hostile foreign powers is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

    8. and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government’s policies or actions.

    9. Protection of Power
The and business of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

    10. Suppression of Power
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

    11. Disdain for and the
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts is openly attacked, and governments often refuse to fund the arts.

    12. Obsession with and
Under fascist regimes, the are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

    13. Rampant and
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

    14. Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

This post is a summary of Fascism, Anyone? by Lawrence W. Britt published in 2003 by Free Inquiry magazine."

    1. How much legal jeopardy is in?

The classified documents case will make use of a recording which indicates that had a highly sensitive document which he knew was NOT declassified.

The chain of evidence looks strong and while there is much news media spinning, a court of law is more rigorous environment where focus on fact is primary

The joy of belonging to a group of like minded people who are facing down an imagined set of awful lefties determined to destroy America

It is a cultish mindset. Can it be cracked? Should an effort be made to deprogram Trumpists? Should the movement be left to fade into irrelevancy assuming is lost?

Election 2024 isn’t going to be the Democratic Party against the Republican Party. It’s going to be democracy against fascism. That’s right: it’s going to be Democrats against Nazis.
