A common scene this time of year along the trail at #TerryTrueBlood Recreation Area.

In fact, I believe this is my third year in a row for catching a photo of a dickcissel singing its heart out atop a color-coordinated mullein inflorescence.

Photograph of a singing dickcissel perched at the top of a mullein inflorescence with out of focus green foliage in the background. The dickcissel is facing left leaving one eye visible. Its beak is opened in song and its weight bends the mullein spike to the left. Based on its coloring this may be a female of the species. This bird has grey abdomen feathers, brown wings, back, and tail feathers with dark bars and mottling, a bright yellow chest with grey on either side, a white neck with a slim black outline, a grey cap with a yellow mask across the eyes, a grey cheek with a yellow patch on the lower cheek, dark eyes, a silver-grey beak, and brown legs and feet. This variety of mullein produces a flower spike that towers above the plant. The flowers have five yellow, overlapping petals that form a shallow cup around the yellow center.

    20 second trailcam video of medium sized Black bear sitting on the forest floor like a human. It yawns. It grooms its legs and paws with a long tongue. It sleepily turns its head. It is neither fearsome nor ferocious.

    A close up of an Eyed Hawk-Moth on a palm. The shot is very close focusing in on an exposed hindwing showing the eye. The eye itself starts indigo in the centre with a ring of light blue and then a thicker ring of black to finish. The eye is on a largely buff-coloured wing but to there is a flash of crimson pink to the upper part of the hindwing where the top of the eye is. The crimson pink is partially obscured by the stretched out forewing.
    Front on shot of eyed hawk moth on a finger. It looks like a grey felt ball with a v-shaped snout either side of which sit two black eyes and a small black mohican on the top. The creamy, feathered antennae stretch left and right. Three legs grip the fingers

    a large angular-winged moth on the back of fingers. Its wingspan covers all four fingers. It is largely grey with a black head and some dark marking on the inner edge of its forewings. Its wings are large and a little clothes hanger shape, initially slope away from the head before forming a square shape at the bottom wing edge, and then sloping sharply hack up to the head. It has two creamy, feathered antennae. The background is blurred green vegetation.

    Atlantic ghost crab

    Came across this one (and quite a few more) at Corson's Inlet State Park in New Jersey.

    Closeup shot of the crab which is facing the camera. Four cream colored legs on either side of the body with two white claws in front. The eyestalks are black and extend straight up from the head. Sun is from the back, so its strangely shaped shadow can be seen on the sand in the foreground. Small pieces of shell and pebbles can be seen scattered around the area. One tiny green shoot can be seen poking out off the sand in the upper right of the shot.
