Peter Wehner explains to Tim Miller why white evangelicals continue to be red hot for Donald Trump's return to the White House:

"The grievances and resentments and anger are just pulsating on the American right and within evangelical circles. People felt dishonored and disrespected."

I remember when Prince was on tour - he televised his concerts into theaters. Everyone came to the theater in great clothes, the sound was tremendous, people dancing in the aisles, oh it was great.

I've booked a whole lot of bands in the 70s and 80s. As the Guardian points out, the cost of touring is just insane.

But what if bands could do a few big shows - and sell tickets to local theaters, or into venues of various sizes, with great sound systems / high end headphones?

tuban_muzuru ,
@tuban_muzuru@ohai.social avatar

@thoughtpunks

Ecch, I have a thought about this. Concerts gather listeners - who want a reason to Go Somewhere with Someone.

A good lobby experience, a bar, you're all set from the audience perspective. Watch it in your living room.

The artists decide where they want to perform - as long as they can do it live.

No touring necessary - a few important shows sure. Performers make a good living if they can stay booked.

For an acquittal at least two or three jurors AND much of the general public in NYC would need to have serious doubts about the legal soundness of the case. It would need to start with "My client is difficult, not well liked, and he continues to refuse to admit that he had an affair but none of these things are illegal... blah blah blah"

Trump can not abide. He hamstrings his council by insisting they maintain his self-image AND keep him from being found guilty.

The least enjoyable part of coding is getting the IDE setup, the folders named, the correct libraries installed and trimmed down so they have what you think you will need.

If the language is java then the least enjoyable part is deciding if you want to store a number as a float or an int (formatted if you need decimals) ... then always changing your mind and having to go through and fix the numbers so they work.

Pica, small cat
Height: 22 to 47cm
Girth: 33 to ??cm (ouch cm)
Length: 37cm
Length w/ tail: 66cm
Weight: 5.9 pounds/ 2.7 Kg
Max Length (Dangle): 74cm! oh no

she's getting longer.

Rate of Enlonganmentation
dML/dt: 1.2cm / second

No signs of increase stopping. Cat keeps increasing.
All clear! ALL CLEAR!
Soon she will be in all locations.

This is all very unscientific. I'm sure you, like me, have about six jillion Amazon boxes lying around.

Grab one about the size of the cat in question, stuff it into the box, firmly. Yes it will growl and bite, cat science is not for the timid - once it's sorta level in the box, mark the side of the box -

Then it's just a matter of length * width * measured height.

Also weigh the box.

and fediverse, help me out here, please.

A while ago, I saw a comment somewhere (not necessarily fedi) that boiled down roughly to this:

"The British aristocracy made their (edit: male) servants recognisable as such by dressing them in formal clothes, but in mismatched combinations (i.e. tailcoat with a black bowtie, long tie with a wing collar)."

This was (roughly speaking and to the best of my knowledge) about the Victorian through Edwardian and early Modern periods, i.e. when formalwear as we know it (morning coat, tailcoat, etc.) already existed in roughly the form we know it.

I can't find that comment anymore, and I don't expect I ever will, but it would be fascinating to read more about this subject, very specific and niche as it is. I've tried googling around for it (i.e. "historical british servant dress codes"), but found very little.

If anyone has some reading material on that (preferably online or books buyable online, if not I'll have to see if my library can get foreign (english) literature), I would be super grateful for any links or the likes.
