The transsexual dyke your liberal columnists warned you about.

Part-time woman, full-time nuisance. May contain traces of neurodivergence. Cisn't. Now you say ‘pronouns in bio’ because you have no other jokes.

Anti-fascism. Intersectional & queer feminism. Prison abolition. Liberation for all. International solidarity. I've been around long enough to see every discourse several times over, so spare me the bullshit.

Thank fuck not American.

@palestine

"To date, it is estimated that there are tens of thousands of forcibly disappeared Palestinians, including women and children, whose whereabouts remain unknown"
"A group of Palestinian lawyers started an initiative earlier in June to track and defend what is estimated to be thousands of individuals forcibly disappeared by Israel from the besieged coastal enclave since the beginning of the war"
Extremely difficult task so far

I decided to find out if any progress had been made on the science behind why some ants are attracted to electrical fields. After filtering out exterminators (it's so demoralizing to search for information on creatures you love and find nothing but people who know nothing about them boasting about how they will kill them all) I found what looked like a blog. But, who the heck is "James Brown"? Never heard of the dude. Maybe he could be my new friend if he likes ants enough to blog about them!

Are your Mastodon posts sometimes surrounded by a brightly coloured line and you're not sure why?

It could be because you have posted an image, video or audio file without an alt text description. Some server admins use a special bit of custom code which highlights posts that are missing descriptions.

The idea is to remind people to add descriptions, so that the posts with attached media are accessible to blind and/or deaf people. You can edit in descriptions if they are missing.

@FediTips better yet: I use a userstyle to simply hide (display: none) all uncaptioned images

By the way, if #FalloutTV has made anyone want to play Fallout: the original games, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and 4 are all on GOG, without DRM, and regularly discounted (Fallout 1 and 2 are currently 75% off, for 2.50 apiece).

    I thought we had reached a certain level of obscenity in this genocide but apparently not..

    FYI. There are no routine amputations for handcuff injuries. This is plain torture.

    Trekkies, esp. Trekkies of colour: are there any good articles / essays / videos about Worf and how people relate to his Federation–Klingon cultural struggles?

    Via Timothy Snyder: 1/…

    The thing Trump did in Dayton – celebrating his fascist movement's dubious "martyrs"–is exactly what Goebbels & Hitler did bw Nazis' failed coup & their seizure of power. Their song was called the Horst Wessel Song.

    Nazis were obsessive abt being the victims. Once in power they put up monuments to their "martyrs." They sang their Horst Wessel Song as they conquered countries & killed millions to say that they, Nazis, were real victims and therefore always innocent.

    amberage ,
    @amberage@eldritch.cafe avatar

    @GottaLaff and with good reason, that song is illegal in Germany and Austria today.

    Much of Germany's anti-nazi laws are perfunctory, symbolic, only enforced in the most obvious cases, and have failed to stop the resurgence of neonazi parties in the country, but the US could still learn a great deal about outlawing fascist symbols, slogans, and writings from Germany…

    Oh for fuck's sake… I'm trying to take a screenshot of a website in Firefox with dropdown menus on the website (NOT the browser UI!) open.

    Firefox's screenshot tool doesn't work, because right-clicking to take one closes the menu.

    My OS's (Linux Mint) screenshot tools doesn't work, because pressing Print closes the menu.

    What do I do?

    and fediverse, help me out here, please.

    A while ago, I saw a comment somewhere (not necessarily fedi) that boiled down roughly to this:

    "The British aristocracy made their (edit: male) servants recognisable as such by dressing them in formal clothes, but in mismatched combinations (i.e. tailcoat with a black bowtie, long tie with a wing collar)."

    This was (roughly speaking and to the best of my knowledge) about the Victorian through Edwardian and early Modern periods, i.e. when formalwear as we know it (morning coat, tailcoat, etc.) already existed in roughly the form we know it.

    I can't find that comment anymore, and I don't expect I ever will, but it would be fascinating to read more about this subject, very specific and niche as it is. I've tried googling around for it (i.e. "historical british servant dress codes"), but found very little.

    If anyone has some reading material on that (preferably online or books buyable online, if not I'll have to see if my library can get foreign (english) literature), I would be super grateful for any links or the likes.

    @histodons still looking, btw

    amberage OP ,
    @amberage@eldritch.cafe avatar

    @WanderingBeekeeper @histodons yeah this is more about butler, chauffeur, male waitstaff at in-house events, etc.

    One example (but not historical) I could bring would be i.e. Oddjob in Goldfinger: black suit, wing collar (at that time exclusive to full evening dress with white bowtie), long black tie

    amberage OP ,
    @amberage@eldritch.cafe avatar

    @WanderingBeekeeper @histodons I've no idea if it's true, is the thing, it might as well be a bit of pseudo history like they tend to show up on the web, that's why I'm asking
