A quite different approach: modern medical practice uses a whole lot of medicine, which ultimately ends up in (waste) water, and becomes an environmental problem, including a health hazard to humans. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772427122000390

Are you crying wolf again? Man… I can’t bear this anymore.

nightwatch_admin ,

I have seen some start a consultancy, sane job, better pay and strict agreements on presence. There’s probably also a whole heap of companies raking in real talent, motivated and eager to drive the former employer’s business into the ground.

nightwatch_admin ,

In this case it is a reference and unit of measurement: if this lunatic extremist right winger conspiracy-addicted billionaire thinks it’s bad… then it really is bad.

nightwatch_admin ,

You can hear those MPs screaming “EVASIVE MANOEUVRES!!”
How about starting with apprehending and incarcerating the companies poisoning the waters in the first place?

We can figure something out with the responsible c-levels I guess, but fair enough

"Grow up. These are my movies, not yours": George Lucas Won't be Happy How Star Wars Fan Group is Illegally Saving the Original Trilogy ( fandomwire.com )

The original trilogy of Star Wars films, spearheaded by George Lucas were critical and commercial successes. However, in 1997 Lucas released the “Special Edition” of the films for the trilogy’s 20th anniversary, which featured extensive changes to the original theatrical cuts....

nightwatch_admin ,

Independent of who wants to see the original, who owns the rights, and who were part of the crew… the originals have historical significance. Those were the movies people saw, those were the movies that created the craze. In a 100 years from now, we can still buy a revised director’s grandson upscale glitter edition in 65537k, and we’ll love it - but history should never be changed.

nightwatch_admin ,

Neither do I, but from several other sources and experiences: yes, many do. Maybe all even, but without an axe and a bow dare I not venture into the utter darkness that is sports ‘journalism’.

nightwatch_admin ,

Hahaha yet another “yes we can” article.

No we cannot. We could, if everyone joined, maybe pull it off. Maybe. But look at the planet: in almost all of the countries that have the power to make a difference, the population is leaning heavily towards the extreme right wing and care not for the environment at all - they are often even actively trying to destroy it. Corporations are lobbying (successfully I should say) for less regulations, but it’s not like they gave much of a shit anyway. The big powers are challenging each other to a fight more every day and even if they would care, they will still need to prepare for war and give less priority to fixing any other issues (especially EU, ramping up weapons production right now).
And there’s more, but in any case, all the layers are broken.

Climate doomerism is climate realism.

Pure hydrogen is heavy greenwashing - after many years talking about green generation, still over 90% is created from natural gas, by the usual fossil fuel companies; they are also the ones promising to build the green hydrogen factories, by the way. It is indeed barely suitable for (direct) consumer use and highly inefficient for electricity generation (like 10% efficiency iirc).

A well known and respected ethical hacker, and he would answer indeed.

For those not in the know: Prince Bernhard (deceased), husband to former queen Juliana (d), was infamous for his (heavily debated) membership of the Nazi party and first chairman of the (also heavily debated) Bilderberg conference.
Aside from that, the royal family is very, very rich and has a lot of influence over the world. Part of their wealth is supplied by the Dutch government, without clear numbers and lots of misrepresentation on the yearly budgeting, a government that is by the way nicely massaged by the many global companies having a nice office in the Dutch tax haven.

We won’t say, it is rather embarrassing

I don’t really trust Apple with my data, but Google is the most penultimate bottom feeding data gobbler ever, second only to Facebook and not by much. A good Arch or Debian tablet, now that I’d pull my wallet out for.

nightwatch_admin ,

Oh wow, that goes on the wish list

nightwatch_admin , (edited )

Well, the observation that prices will go up when salaries go up is not wrong; that that’s a problem is also not wrong. But this? Ugh.

Edit: dear downvoters: the “ugh” is about the article, I don’t think the gist of it is “good”.

nightwatch_admin ,

Of course, you’re right. I guess what I’m trying to say is that if there is going to be a predictable rise in people’s money, prices will increase extra. If no other measures are taken, people will have no change in how much they can buy, and prices will probably go up months earlier than incomes too.

nightwatch_admin ,

Absolutely

You don’t even need a calculator for a quick calculation, take the closest value of 10: 3x7=21x37 or easier 20x40 = 800 which is close to the actual number, 777.

The absolute beauty of this: readers adding context without denying the actual content of the message. Glorious.

OK, this is the second time in my life that I read a headline that is even not clickbaity enough for what the article itself delivers. My $deity who tf thought this was a good idea?

JUST TODAY I was going to buy WinRar. I've used the software forever, for free, and I just thought... I appreciate this, they've never given me grief, and I'm going to pay them.

And I went on their page to subscribe for a lifetime membership, and they wanted 20 bucks, which I was okay with, but it does not include Major Updates! I guess I'll buy it and just click the do not check for updates button but that seemed kind of, I don't know....

nightwatch_admin ,

Why would you not want that?

nightwatch_admin ,

I have given this a lot of thought, because at first I hadn’t taken from the question that you have to sit out the whole thing in real time, not in a minute… but then I also noticed that you are going to experience it with all your senses. Would there be boredom? I am not sure.

Also, with all the procreation… what a ride man.

You mean RFC1918 private addresses? I guess they keep it at hand but it’s not really interesting to them. Almost all “client side” internet connections are behind a NAT connection, where private addresses are only unique to the router. So while your public address 1.2.3.4 is unique to you, your inside address 192.168.1.1 is only unique inside your LAN. Your neighbour will have the same address inside, but a different one outside, say 4.3.2.1.

The Hurd hasn’t done anything properly in, what, 3 decades? I am actually surprised someone even remembers it.

Meta gave Netflix and Spotify access to users private messages ( arstechnica.com )

in 2018, Facebook told Vox that it doesn't use private messages for ad targeting. But a few months later, The New York Times, citing "hundreds of pages of Facebook documents," reported that Facebook "gave Netflix and Spotify the ability to read Facebook users’ private messages."...

Looks like someone’s personal photos were leaked/stolen and turned into this shoddy “hurr dur nekkid asian sllud” thing. Gross.

I’m in my third decade in IT, and I can assure you such testing was never a priority. We just have capable computers everywhere nowadays .

Google Allows Creditors to Brick Your Phone ( lemmy.world )

I installed NetGuard about a month ago and blocked all internet to apps, unless they're on a whitelist. No notifications from this particular system app (that can't be disabled) until recently when it started making internet connection requests to google servers. Does anyone know when this became a thing?...

nightwatch_admin ,

It was a command to the slaves using their services: “Don’t be evil.(We will know and judge)”

That heartache is easily cured. Try befriending a few.

Stupid monoculture is the cause, but let’s not fix that.
