If you see a new youTube channel with a plain sounding name like "NatureView" or "BrightScience" etc. and there is what looks like a tempting video on a specific education topic "Most Active Volcanoes" or "Incredible Carnivorous Plants"

There is a 50/50 chance it will be a generated voice with stock footage and a script written by GPT.

I am now avoiding videos if I don't recognize the creator, or don't see signs it was made by a person.

So much spam!

@futurebird Ugh yeah, especially with weather/disaster stuff stock footage (especially recognizable from something like storyblocks etc) is a huge red flag for this spammy nonsense for me because there's so much footage out there that's either completely free OR that could be used for not that much money than you'd use FOR a stock footage site (e.g. paying a storm chaser for video)

For those of you who write fiction, how do you feel about working on a story on a notebook or a laptop in a busy public place like an airport, stadium or lively park?

(I have a friend who wrote the entire first draft of her screenplay on a phone— madness! but it worked!)

I'm glad that I can now share my AI art mostly peacefully.

When I first started here, I'd get harassed at least 5 times a week for posting stuff that I enjoy.

People shouldn't be vilified for sharing what they enjoy. It's ridiculous that's the case and I will continue to defend my right to post whatever the fuck I want, whenever the fuck I want.

Nobody should make you feel bad for doing something you enjoy. Do it unapologetically.

@BeAware I kind of get this on the level of being afraid to create/share art because even IF it's not AI, most of the time I make digital art it's hard to describe/do alt text for (being inherently visual and abstract/psychedelic "bring your own interpretation") + I have a nuanced take regarding AI (e.g. fine with it as long as it's not sexual imagery or passed off as non-AI art) so people might accuse me of using it anyway

I will say the attitude of defining True Art can get really frustrating

@BeAware Ugh, personally I wouldn't do that for my own ethical reasons (e.g. I am aware of the concerns raised and try to respect them as much as possible - I don't think it's a good idea to take a flippant attitude toward people with legitimate concerns, if that makes sense?)

But I can understand how you might feel that way being through the experiences you have, if that makes sense.

What is the biggest difference between life in this era and say... European feudalism?

I would argue it's near universal literacy. And along with simply having access to the written word, the highest percentage of a population armed with some scraps of what you might call a "liberal arts education"

@Miro_Collas @Infoseepage @palestine Not whatabouting for the US here - it definitely should stop weapons shipments and heavily increase aid - but why can't other countries and their air forces do the same? It would seem like not just the right, just thing to do to save innocent people but an absolute "we're better than the US" PR win for any country with an air force involved (plus, while I'm aware of the USS Liberty, I doubt that Israel would shoot down say a Chinese aid drop...)

@Strandjunker This is why I say we need to support the protestors, even the ones that we might personally disagree with for whatever reason (e.g. see the forest for the trees, a protestor with even an iffy or problematic sign or personal motive isn't acting on behalf of state fascism, the police are)

    Last night I got back to #Helldivers2 and I must admit that the latest patch isn't working for me.

    Even at the "Challenging" level the environmental hazards are just an instantaneous and often unavoidable death.
    Feeling more like a "Ok lol you dead, kk thx bye" than a nice addition to the depth of the game.

    Yes, the game is hard and it will getting harder, but this new addition is just...frustrating.

    @thegamerstavern I agree. The only thing I like "have a nice death" in is the more forgiving roguelikes/dungeon crawlers (e.g. Moonring is one I can tolerate it in) where it's part of the exploring in a luck-based RNG dungeon

    but the stuff where you technically COULD win if you were just faster or better like the soulslikes, that just stresses me out even more than "you could lose because the RNG hates you" if that makes sense

    @GottaLaff and even though I support Bernie Sanders because he's been the only consistently good candidate in this election cycle (just go look at his Youtube and see what he has to say) I'd be fine voting for Harris or Pritzker or Newsom (among other options) as a bridge candidate, even if they personally are to my right.

    Biden has gotten too ensnared in trying to reach across to the far right, and he's dragging himself down with them.

    We need someone who can fight nazis, not kiss them
