I honestly don't think there's anything as refreshing as a glass of water at 10°C. Sure, sodas or electrolyte drinks like Gatorade are nice, but it really doesn't hit the same.

Idk im on SSRIs as well but I still prefer water. Is it maybe some side effect of the ones you're taking? Maybe you should talk to your doc about it.

Heliboard supports swiping, but only once you separately download some library from google. I figured its better than using gboard exclusively though

One punch man is super interesting to me. It takes the shounen genre and turns it on its head. How can the main character possibly improve, when they are already the strongest in the whole universe? Well, turns out raw strength is not all that matters. And OPM is a funny way of looking at this conundrum our society has prepared for young men. Definitely one of my favorites as well.

@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

As a man, here is my understanding, so take it with a grain of salt.

While men staring at women is a problem, it is not what is meant by "male gaze". That term is usually used to describe the way societal norms regarding women were strongly formed by men and what they like. The way conservatives generally expect women to present themselves and behave is heavily influenced by the male gaze. To my understanding, the exact standards differ by culture, but usually its along the lines of being submissive and fitting some beauty standard.

If a person who is read as female (aka "looks like a woman") does not adhere to those standards, they will face ramifications, because our society mostly has men calling the shots. On the flip side, people who are read as female, and try to please the male gaze while also genetically being lucky enough to fit the beauty standards, can benefit from it (see: beauty privilege).

Regarding your plan to not be a dick, I think if you just treat people as people, regardless of their appearance, you are (passively) working against the perpetuation of the male gaze. I think that would also mean you're not discriminating anyone.

Apologies if I misunderstood your comment and you were not asking/looking for an explanation.

@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

I mean, I agree with you observation, but your suggestion seems asinine. I don't think 90% of men go for looks only. A majority, probably, but I'd guess more like 60-70%. Also, men in their 30s generally also start to understand that looks aren't everything. So just because a woman is single at 30 does not mean she has to settle for "the least worse"

The top level comment was deleted by now, so I'm not sure about the context. But Theres a difference between looking and staring.

Yep, that is pretty much how I understand it as well

A few years ago I moved to a new city but hadn't had any luck dating. One day I matched a girl on some online dating site who immediately started sexting aggressively. Usually I'm the more intimate type, but I thought that I hadn't had sex in a while so I went for it.

She took the lead and started giving me head, which wasn't so bad honestly. But I just couldn't get into it. When she rode me I didn't get fully limp, but I wasn't really hard either. At some point she apparently came (or just got bored of my dead fish impression) and I pretty quickly packed my things and left.

That day I learned I really need some type of emotional connection with a person before having sex works for me.

By that logic a lot of vegetables are GMO.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

I wasn't sure how many crops are actually bred in a significant way, and I didn't feel like researching so I just wrote "a lot".

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

Yeah, GMO is not the same as breeding. Its just that the comment I originally replied to claimed that, unless I didn't understand them correctly

I really don't get how people enjoy consuming two sources of information at once. Every time I try to watch something while doing something else, I get frustrated at how I'm unable to properly focus on one thing.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

I've heard many people say that, but I don't really rewatch shows, and when I do, I still want to focus on them. I also don't really watch live streams or vods, but just like rewatching things, if I choose to do so, I want to take it all in. It kind of irks me hearing half a conversation. When I put something like that on in the background, I keep rewinding a few seconds so I can hear all of the conversation. Idk, for background entertainment music works best for me, personally.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

Idk, there are several things pointing towards me having ADHD, but I haven't looked for a diagnosis. For some reason it just really irks me to hear half of a conversation, so I keep going back to my "background" media to rewind so I can hear everything.

Here's a tip: get a UV light and turn it on in your bathroom. It'll make you close the lid pretty quickly.

Seriously! People with a healthy skin fauna smell great.

I think it has a lot to do with how frequently people shower using soap. Showering with just water should be much more common. I use soap only about once a week but shower almost every day. I've never had less issues with body odor.

As far as I understand we only domesticated cats because they took cate of mice and rats, so in a way they were also expected to work.

Are there any EV cars without any "technology"?

Like the title says, are there any EVs that just have a Bluetooth radio and that's it? Like a normal car, not a smartphone on wheels? If not, do you all think that this will actually happen at some point? This is the main reason why I can't (and will never) buy an EV. I like to have actual buttons everywhere on my car. I think...

I think I saw your original post and have to admit that I was a bit confused about the title, but the first thing that came to mind was that you're talking about ricing, so I get why the mod felt like it was meant to mean ricing

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

I have not been a part of the Linux community for very long but I've heard it a few times already, and since people usually don't just pick random words as a post title, our brains start to look for any kind of connection a poster might have meant. Maybe an ootion for you would be to use very generic titles? Like "meme" or "image" maybe. I think this was mostly a really unfortunate coincidence, but I get that you'd rather just have a less political feed anyways.

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

Used to do that, but I underestimated how important it is to do something before work. Eat, watch an episode of something, take a shower, anything. Going straight to my desk to work was depressing as hell for me.

I'm doing my best to thank him for being so cooperative at the vet (besides constantly licking his wound, but it's been a few days now so I took the cone off. So far he seems to behave and not lick it excessively anymore)

meekah ,
@meekah@lemmy.world avatar

Beard* man what an unfortunate typo

What do you think of the term "short king" as a term that's supposed to champion body positivity for men?

Body positivity is such a strange concept to me. There's efforts to reclaim words while simultaneously calling them bad if used as an insult. Ideally, people wouldn't be offended by someone describing their body with common descriptors, but socially there is so much value attributed to certain body types that it's almost...

There have been many times I've been glad that I wasn't taller. It's kinda funny watching taller folks hitting their heads on things and complaining about cars being too small.

6'3" guy here. Every time someone says "wow you're tall" I say that it's not that great. 6' is plenty to reach high shelves and stuff like that I think, but I struggle with leg room in public transport. I think that's more annoying than needing a ladder once in a while. Also I often feel my hair touching the roof in smaller cars.

meekah ,

I don't think it was supposed to be funny. I think that was their attempt at somehow mangling mental health into their stories because that's what the kids are all about or something
