What is a tater tower!? These look awesome.

clay_pidgin ,

They look really cool!

I've never considered growing potatoes because I don't have much space, and a crop of 6 potatoes doesn't seem worth the effort! How many taters do you get from a planter that size?

clay_pidgin ,

That sounds doable! Did you plant a potato with sprouted eyes, or what?

clay_pidgin ,

Seems like it worked out. Great job!

clay_pidgin ,

I absolutely don't see the appeal of vtubers.

clay_pidgin ,

Berries down under the top thigh, twig lying on the bottom thigh.

clay_pidgin ,

Same for me and the Moose.

clay_pidgin ,

This has been my strategy. I like to compliment people because I can remember the few times it's happened to me, but I'm not trying to creep anyone out. Mostly stuff like "awesome shirt!" or "hey, sweet hat". Never "nice cock, bro". And never with the intention of starting a conversation. Mostly like passing by someone and pointing "excuse me, love the boots.", then keep on truckin' by.

clay_pidgin ,

I'm still not certain how to link communities.

clay_pidgin ,

That would be neat. Thanks, chief.

clay_pidgin ,

Maybe you have the main poster blocked? I see dozens of posts.

clay_pidgin ,

Excellent stick, cool playground, and good parenting to crop out your spawn.

clay_pidgin ,

Bellevue, Washington. Since it's not in the title or thumbnail!

clay_pidgin ,

Awesome, thanks Chief.

I'm very happy here. I joined during the reddit blackouts, and honestly I picked it because of the name and was comforted by The Dude and later his deputies' soft hand on the community.

I mostly browse /all, but I do spend time on /local to see my neighbors and it's fun to watch the communities grow!

I redrew my character (just inking, I don't have time to color him!) and took into account all the helpful feedback, hope you guys enjoy! ( lemmy.world )

I found also I got too nervous drawing a tall character horizontally and felt more confident in drawing him anatomically better. Took into account also the sword handle but hands I felt were fine. I take influence from Jamie Hewlett's Tank Girl and the old 80's "Heavy Metal MAgazine" comics

clay_pidgin ,

I see that too. It's noticeable but not bad.

Our [New Scientist] writers pick their favourite science fiction books of all time ( www.newscientist.com )

This is an interesting list. It's missing some of the true great classics, like Frankenstein, and it has a number of unusual, less well known titles, but there's a lot to like on it. There's certainly a lot for people to disagree about, but it may well have your less often cited favorites, too. What do you think?

clay_pidgin ,

I got it because I love Sir Perry's Discworld books, and was blown away by how much I liked it!

clay_pidgin ,

Whose house you visit, when you go to a strip club, brothel, toy store. Some cars have internal cameras and many have microphone.

clay_pidgin ,

Yeah, I've seen most of these and I had no idea.

clay_pidgin ,

I read one of my grandma's Ken Follet books as a teen and thought it was fun and I very much enjoyed the sex. As an adult I agree with your girlfriend, it's badly written. Airport books, is probably a good category for them.

clay_pidgin ,

I just finished rereading Stranger in a Strange Land by Heinlein, one of my all time favorites.

I'm reading Against the Fall of Night by Clarke now. I love how big Clarke books feel.

Just finished the first Honor Harrington book

...maybe a little too on the nose with channeling Horatio Hornblower and Jack Aubrey, there's some truly problematic stuff with the native Medusans that goes all but uncommented upon, there's some reactionary politics that may just be de rigeur for 20th century military sci-fi (I don't know... would be happy to be educated), and...

clay_pidgin ,

I love Aubrey-Maturin, and Honor has been on my radar for a while but I haven't tried it. I'll give it a go!

clay_pidgin ,

The movie has bits of the first, I want to say, three books, but it does capture the vibe extremely well.

The audio books are great too. I'm a fan of the Patrick Tull narration, but Simon Vance has his supporters too!

Why Furiosa’s CGI Looks More Fake Than Mad Max Fury Road ( screenrant.com )

Even in trailers for Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, the prequel looks notably different from 2015's Mad Max: Fury Road. While the deep orange hues of the outback-turned-wasteland persist, Furiosa's overall use of CGI is much more apparent — and somewhat jarring. Initially, director George Miller had intended to shoot Furiosa and...

clay_pidgin ,

What does a change in frame rate look like?

clay_pidgin ,

That sounds distracting if you are capable of noticing it! I'll keep an untrained eye out.

clay_pidgin ,

I didn't know if it's correct, but consider that nanny (most?) use natural gas for heating, cooling, cooking, and got water, so those aren't Even counted!

clay_pidgin ,

My grandma used to make Hot Dago sandwiches, basically a wet roast beef. I don't know what the Spanish had to do with it.

clay_pidgin ,

Or which government. It's a nice symbolic gesture, though it doesn't seem to be benefiting Gazans at all!

Self-hosted website for posting web novel/fiction

Hey hello, self-hosting noob here. I just want to know if anyone would know a good way to host my writing. Something akin to those webcomic sites, except for writing. Multiple stories with their own "sections" (?) and a chapter selection for each. Maybe a home page or profile page to just briefly detail myself or whatever, I...

clay_pidgin ,

It sounds like you want a blog that lets you categorize or tag your entries to keep them together.

clay_pidgin ,

Shout-out to my man Ea-Nasir over at !reallyshittycopper !

clay_pidgin ,

That's a tough one! He clearly didn't care much about the reputation of his business, and in fact the only reason we know of him at all is that he saved the complaints he got! Most of us will have our names spoken for the last time when our children die; being remembered at all beyond, say, 100 years after your death is a heck of an accomplishment.

clay_pidgin ,

That's a possibility!

clay_pidgin ,

It's low-volume, but one of my favorites.

clay_pidgin ,

Bazinga!

clay_pidgin ,

Beef jerky and swordfish for me.

clay_pidgin ,

Aldi and Lidl have good German and Belgian chocolates pretty cheaply. Like $2 for a big bar.

clay_pidgin ,

Pointy!

No but really it's got a deep flavor with some metallic tone, like tuna? It's fantastic as a big "steak".

clay_pidgin ,

Different thing. Privateers were state-sanctioned.

clay_pidgin ,

Firefly by Piers Anthony (the writer of the Xanth fantasy series).

There's way too much talk of erections around dead bodies, but by far the worst part is the long section with a woman describing in way too much detail how much she enjoyed being raped as a five year old, acting it out and everything. Anthony is a messed up dude.

clay_pidgin ,

It's incredibly messed up. I don't recommend it.

How should I change my polite behavior to be more accommodating?

My parents raised me to always say "yes sir" and "no ma'am", and I automatically say it to service workers and just about anyone with whom I'm not close that I interact with. I noticed recently that I had misgendered a cashier when saying something like "no thank you, ma'am" based on their appearing AFAB, but on a future visit...

clay_pidgin ,

Oh they aren't all real? It's all plausible!
