I used the wrong word, but this is a photoelectric detector. The manufacturer date is less than one year ago

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

this is a brand new smoke detector. it's all up in the original post

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

now there's an idea. I live in south Florida and my house was built in the 1950s. I wonder if some spider has decided that the inside of this detector is a good place to hide. blowing it out isn't going to help though, because I replaced the entire detector and if there's a spider going in there, they just went back into the new one immediately. I'm going to have to set up a security camera on this thing

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

thing is, it's the smoke detector farthest from my shower, and only the third time it went off was anywhere near a time that I had showered.

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

as stated, as soon as I replaced the battery it started alarming immediately so I replaced the entire detector and it's still doing it

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

The weird thing is, it alarmed three times in its current position, but when I changed the battery, it started alarming in my hands in a completely different room, which I already had two other smoke detectors in it that weren't going off.

and there's no gas. I live outside Miami

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

update - so I've got two more diagnostic steps. I have another detector of the exact same brand in another room, I'm going to switch them and see what happens. if the detector from my kitchen starts going off by the front door, then I'm going to try another brand that I have elsewhere in the house and move forward from there.

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

a spider could absolutely crawl through the grading over the detector portion. these are under warranty from my security company, so I've held off on disassembling one but I will eventually

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

it doesn't, my house is outside Miami so it's well designed to prevent direct sunlight from any of the windows.

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

I wish he'd come over and tickle my balls instead of tickling my smoke detector

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

omg 😭😭😭 The new detector went on off in the living room where the old one did. switched it to the kitchen, put the kitchen detector in the living room, and the new one went off in the kitchen. wtffff

The idea that people not being able to describe/name the color blue means that they couldn't see the color blue is the most unhinged takeaway from this.

cultures didn't develop a name for a color until they were using that color as a dye, for the most part. Red usually comes first, and blue usually comes last, because red dye is usually really easy to make and blue is not. if you showed something cyan to somebody from like 500 years ago, and they told you that it was just blue, you wouldn't assume that they couldn't see the color cyan. they just didn't have a word for it cuz they didn't need one (I don't actually know how old cyan is but you know what I mean).

to this day there are still some languages that consider blue to be a shade of green. in Russia, light blue is concerted a separate color from blue just like pink is considered separate from red; in the Iliad, Homer compares the color of the sky to bronze, maybe referring to the blue-green patina that forms on it. he referred to the ocean as "wine-dark".

color naming is weird.

pelletbucket ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

yeah, in other contexts when he's using the word, like when describing people, he's referring to bronze's intrinsic properties. he might have also been referring to the color of sky at sunset

I remember that advertising campaign back in the day

lol this isn't about dry mouth. I already had dry mouth, which I manage with xylitol (lmk if they make any of those fruit things that can adhere to the side of your mouth like xylitol melts)

SSRIs cause dehydration. when I drink straight water on them, it sends me to the bathroom pretty frequently. I don't find Gatorade particularly more refreshing than water, but it tends to stay inside me after I drink it, when I'm on SSRIs. yes I've had my blood sugar checked

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

lol thanks for all the suggestions of water, but when I'm on SSRIs it runs right through me.

Pizza chefs of Lemmy, is a job as a pizza chef a physically demanding job?

I'm asking because, i'm thinking about doing a little part time job as a pizza maker on one day of the week because 1. i FRICKIN LOVE PIZZA and 2. i need to do something physically demanding as an contra to my office job which is only mentally exhausting. Just doin workouts at the gym would be an option yes, but getting the same...

pelletbucket ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

I wouldn't think so but a lot of people made fun of riker for the way he used that pizza paddle in Star Trek Picard.

pelletbucket ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

what are these conversations looking like when you're having them?

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

people like you like to pretend that Lemmy is so much better than Reddit, then you just walk around spewing hate about people you don't know. why are you here? you'd be much more at home on Reddit with that attitude

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

oh, I would also really like a Law & Order community.

does that happen a lot here or are you venting about the other platform?

you just called me and my friends drug addicts and I'm not supposed to take it personally? I recently started having benzos prescribed for panic attacks, and it's been a great resource for learning about my medication. then I have to sit here and listen to you shame me for talking to people about my psychiatric meds? Go sit on a wire brush.

I don't believe for half a second that you don't understand why it was taken personally, which means not only are you walking around insulting people for no apparent reason, you're also playing dumb. I don't fuck with either of those so I'm done talking with you.

pelletbucket ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

in eighth grade I found an unabridged dictionary and used it to look up words to insult my friends so they couldn't tell I was insulting them

pelletbucket ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

I don't entirely understand what all those words mean. does this mean the "hide read" bug has been corrected?

if I have to stick with one, it's going to be ketchup, but ketchup slaps just right when it's got a dash of mustard in it. My favorite though is ketchup with Frank's Red Hot in it for fries

I'm going to have to ask you to explain what you mean by that. I use TikTok to learn what's going on on the front lines of Ukraine and Gaza before the news washes it, and I make videos about historical and current events that are interesting but are secretly designed to radicalize people.

tiktok is the reason people know exactly what's going on in Gaza. it's the reason people know exactly what's actually going on at every major protest that's happened in this country in the last 5 years. it's constantly used to disseminate information about crimes committed by the government, and individual governmental employees.

what exactly do you think the single philosophy of a social media platform made up of over a billion international users is?

when you find yourself on the same side as the US Congress, that should cause you pause.

pelletbucket OP ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

and I have to be absolutely honest, all of these people crying about it sound exactly like the boomers on the Congressional panel trying to figure out how the internet works. it's pretty entertaining, but paints a poor picture of the future for people who claim to be wanting a more unfettered internet.

pelletbucket ,
@pelletbucket@lemm.ee avatar

explain to me how you found employment in the United States that doesn't involve buying something for lower and selling it for higher.

The Ukrainian military has a good understanding of sanitizing their releases properly, since they've used unsanitized Russian communications to target so many of their people. if it's officially released, from the Ukrainian side, it's safe to say it no longer contains actionable intelligence.

lol how many did they fire for illegally opening accounts without client's permission?

anyway, my understanding is they can only catch you doing this if you plug the mouse jiggler into your computer. is that right?
