I'm in my mid 40s now but I knew even when I was a kid that I never wanted kids. I see my friends and family now struggling with their own children and I just cannot imagine that life for me. I have no regrets not having kids, but if I ever did, I know it's better to regret NOT having them than to regret having them.

I'm on Team Honeycrisp 100%, even though they always cost more.

How do you get people to wash their vegetables when you're at their house and you don't wanna seem rude?

So awkward, but come on it says right there on the package to wash those mushrooms or whatever it is… You’re not their mom but you don’t wanna eat feces or whatever ended up on the produce. A quick rinse is never going to be perfect but it’s better than nothing....

This is a tricky one. I think I'd just offer to help them prepare and then specifically ask to be put on vegetable duty. One of my aunts is like this, doesn't wash veggies, doesn't rinse the soap off her dishes once she's scrubbed them (!), so whenever I'm at her house I just offer to help.

I live in MA. My work and personal cell phones were screeching alerts every hour until it got restored. Kinda scary that it can go down like that.

‘Will I ever retire?’: millennials wonder what’s on the other side of middle age ( www.theguardian.com )

Claire*, 42, was always told: “Follow your dreams and the money will follow.” So that’s what she did. At 24, she opened a retail store with a friend in downtown Ottawa, Canada. She’d managed to save enough from a part-time government job during university to start the business without taking out a loan....

I'm a late gen-Xer (born in '80, so I'm more of a "Xennial"). I have a stable job, pension, matching 401k, no kids, no debt (paid off my car and student loans), make 6 figures, and I am STILL convinced that I will never be able to retire. I feel horrible for all those who are in a worse financial situation than me, but we are all really fucked in the next 20 years.

Social Security is set to run out in the 2030s, and I fully expect the stock market to crash, effectively wiping out my 401k. As others have mentioned, resources like water will start to become scarce, inciting instability.

I call it realistic. If you think everything is going to work out, you're delusional, man. But I hope you prove me wrong some day, I really do.

He got a degree in architectural design and now tours the country playing the fiddle. He could have been anything he wanted and that's the life he chose, but I respect him for it. He's happy and that's what really counts.

In my younger years I passed out in public 3 separate times, once it was just me and my mom outside a bank, which wasn't too bad, but the second time I was at an all-school assembly, and the third time I was at an Easter Sunday church service, and every time it was embarrassing as fuck.

I'm horrific at math, but even I know this shit. I do feel for her though. When you suck at math, even if the answer is easy and you have it right, you constantly second guess yourself because getting the right answer feels too easy, so surely I'm wrong, right? Because it's math and I'm always wrong.

They are both intellectually superior to me and my brother, their only children. I'm pretty sure he and I are a bit of a disappointment to both of them, but they would never admit that.

I was lucky enough to spend a semester abroad in NSW Australia when I was in high school and I volunteered at a wild animal sanctuary there and they had some flying foxes. They were so cool, but you had to be careful when you entered their cage because they would either climb all over you or piss on your head.

I got called to take a Gallop Poll once. I was totally surprised and probably sounded like an idiot to the person on the phone because I kept saying shit like "I can't believe you actually called me, I always hear about these but I don't know anyone who's ever actually taken one," and I thought it was so cool. This was in 2014, so quite a while ago, so my memory of the questions is vague.

Yes! I wish more men felt comfortable wearing jewelry. I like the addition of jewelry to any body!

I love the smell of wood burning/camp fire smell. There's something I find comforting about it. I've yet to find a candle that exactly replicates the smell, but if I ever do, I'm buying 50.

I actually can't stand tea, like TEA tea, but I do like herbal teas. I like the idea of using the lapsang souchong as potpourri, though! I'll try that.

If you use it while trying to write a paper, you can actually write faster/more easily, so I tried it out myself, switched the font, and it actually did help. I do switch the font back to something more professional if I'm sharing what I wrote, though.

Here's an article on writing in Comic Sans

This is gonna sound outdated as hell, but I handwrite one major plot point or scenes on an index card and then put them in the order I want the outline to proceed in. I change the order of the cards if I feel like it or if a scene went some different direction than I originally intended while I was writing it. I only do this while writing fiction.

A few years ago Brachs candy I think it was made Thanksgiving dinner flavored Candy Corn. They had turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, greenbean, apple pie, and gravy candy corns mixed in a bag. The cranberry apple pie were great but the stuffing tasted like vomit. Everything else was just meh. I never bought a bag again.

Most unique looking celebrities?

I'm working on a side project studying variations in human facial features. It's been helpful to study celebrity faces because it's easy to find numerous reference photos. I've actually got a fairly good range of weird looking white men, turns out Hollywood is pretty flush with those, but it's been harder to find unique looking...

How to work with someone that regularly arrives as the wrong answer?

I work with a person that went presented with a problem, works through it and arrives at the wrong solution. When I have them show me the steps they took, it seems like they interpret things incorrectly. This isn't a language barrier, and it's not like they aren't reading what someone wrote....

Is he maybe just a really literal person and took the forwarded email with instructions "send THIS to them" as "send this email to them", but then he knows his work responsibility is to send the product, hence why he sent both the product and the email?

Do you have an SOP or exact steps to follow written down in a very clear, concise manner (yes, even something as simple as "after employee A sends the email, employee A will notify employee B to send out the product by forwarding the customer email to employee B"; I'm talking reaaaallly literal steps here)?

Can you give other examples of times he's messed up in a similar way?

Does he have poor reading comprehension? ADHD?

I train employees a lot in my current job and jobs prior and I've learned that everyone interprets things differently and learns at their own pace. Most times you can adapt to their style, but sometimes people are just mentally out to lunch 24/7 and not fit for the job.

It sounds like this person isn't remembering the procedures then, even when you've explained it to them and they've already done the task before (Or they're just a lazy fuck that doesn't care one way or the other and maybe never will). There is no "fixing" the individual, you need to correct their behavior while also giving them plenty of opportunity to get it right and with all the tools and guides they need readily available. How long have they been working in that position? Maybe they just need more time.

As others have stated, if the directions aren't already in writing, you should either write them down for the employee or, better yet, make the employee write them down, then review it for accuracy. This should in theory help them commit the process to memory, plus now they have their own guide to refer to.

Another bonus (for you, not the employee) of getting the process in writing is that if/when this person messes up again, now you have something to point back to and say "Remember when we went over this and you wrote it down and I verified that your notes were correct? Did you follow those notes this time? If yes, why did (mess up) happen anyway? If no, why didn't you follow the notes?" Make this person explain themselves, don't just sit there and be mad and say nothing to them.

This could also be a case of weaponized incompetence/ learned helplessness. If they fuck up a lot, you stop giving them work, but they're still there getting paid anyway, right? Now you're just paying them to either stand around or do menial tasks and not what you actually hired them for.

Start documenting their fuck ups, and tell them you're doing so. You're better off having a paper trail to point to when you have to fire them.
