Christian Nationalists Are Opening Private Schools.

Taxpayers Are Funding Them.

Trump’s favorite Arizona megachurch has one.

Trump held his first campaign rally as a convicted felon at 🔸Dream City Church 🔸in Phoenix, Arizona,
hosted by the arch-conservative student group 💥Turning Point USA. 💥
This wasn’t Trump’s first appearance at Dream City Church;
he also held a rally there with Turning Point USA in 2020.

For events like this, it’s an ideal venue:
A weekly attendance of around 21,000 believers makes this one of the largestchurches not just in Arizona but in the nation.

Dream City, is a mecca for special guests who blur the line between religion and politics.
Its annual conference has featured notables like musician and pastor Sean , who participated in a White House prayer session for President Trump in 2019 and is currently leading a tour of prayer rallies at state capitol buildings across the country.
The lineup for this year’s event also included David , whose organization,
💥WallBuilders, 💥teaches K-12 students about the supposed Christian origins of America;
Jurgen , a pastor at San Diego’s far-right Awaken Church, which has become a stopon Mike ’s
💥ReAwaken America 💥tour;
and Jentezen , a televangelist who also spoke at the 2022 💥Pray Vote Stand Summit💥, which mobilizes conservative Christian voters to engage in political activism.

@cdarwin Can verify. A year ago AZ had a 1 1/2 billion $ excess in state funds. So the legislature expanded the school voucher (segregation voucher) and school choice vouchers (segregation voucher) dramatically. This week the legislature refused to reduce that voucher program so most of Arizona departments and programs are being cut by 4-5%.

Parasitic wasps are my problematic favs forever and I love her.

When Darwin saw this he doubted if God could have made such a creature, and took it as evidence of evolution. But, as far as I'm concerned, though she may have evolved, God has blessed her. She is a Good Mother.

@990000 @futurebird Oh! I have been wondering what insects were taking pieces out of the rose bush leaves for the last month. The shapes these ants in the video make look like on our roses. AND I am wondering if this is specific to a "leafcutter ant" or other ants as well. I have not ever seen any insect on any of the bushes, day or night.

@futurebird @990000 Phoenix, Arizona!

AND we are questioning if the problem ants in the front yard are fire ants. Did you see the post last week about my son's trip to ER by ambulance? Unbelievable allergic reaction to ant bites. They had come into the house and literally into his bed.

Almost 8 hours at ER now. He got a lot of IV drugs for the migraine. Unfortunately he says he still has the migraine. He mostly wants to sleep. New to our family, sandwich rolls: lavash, mayo, lettuce, prosciutto, havarti cheese. I am trying to find foods Drew can eat since he is not using his left hand very often. Regular sandwiches are a mess since he can’t tell the strength of his grip in his right hand. A firm hold means the sandwich filling falls out. Same for burgers now. Yay for Trader Joe’s lavash - only $2.49 for a large package. 2 pieces for 8 rolls. And it worked well. #Lavash #Food #Wraps #Sandwich

PS Anyone else having trouble finding food that a person with #Dementia or #Alzheimer can eat, feeding themselves? Since my son is losing more and more dexterity due to declining, he still wants his favorite foods in the way he has always had them yet he really can't deal with using his hands much at the same time he needs a special larger, round spoon to eat. About 1/2 of his meals the caregiver has to finish by feeding him.

cobalt OP ,
@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

We had Neuro OT for him for almost 6 years until he started having too many hospitalizations. For insurance coverage he has to be “stable”. Neuro OT is specifically for those who have cognitive challenges as well as physical, so both brain and muscles are exercised. We don’t need adaptive dinnerware now but easy to eat and drink foods. As dementia progresses chewing and swallowing become more difficult. But he still is hungry like a hardworking man!#Dementia #Alzheimer

cobalt OP ,
@cobalt@awscommunity.social avatar

@mycrowgirl Yes! Both! And also any tips on strategies to coax eating more food when his brain gets tired and stops eating because it’s too much work. We learned if he stops using his spoon, to load it for him. Then if he stops again we offer to feed him. It’s clear he’s hungry but frustrated at the work to eat. I think I’m asking what every caregiver thinks about when seeing declines with #Dementia and #Alzheimer.

You can never have too many flowers. Or the aroma of flowers that drifts out 25-40 feet away as these star jasmine vines do. I finally found my jasmine fertilizer so the pots just greedily soaked up very nutrient-rich water. We went over 100° today! I read that using this fertilizer will help prolong blooming. If scientists figured out commercially viable ways to capture scent for release later, I’d recommend the scent of jasmine. Really stays in my memory. #BloomScrolling #Jasmine #Phoenix

    On June 21, 1877, the authorities hanged ten Irish miners in a single day in Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania. Known as Black Thursday, or Day of the Rope, it was the second largest mass execution in U.S. history. (The largest was in 1862, when the U.S. government executed 38 Dakota warriors). They convicted the Irishmen of murder, and accused them of being terrorists from a secret organization called the Molly Maguires. They executed ten more over the next two years, and imprisoned another twenty suspected Molly Maguires. Most of the convicted men were union activists. Some even held public office, as sheriffs and school board members.

    However, there is no evidence that an organization called the Molly Maguires ever existed in the U.S. The only serious evidence against the men was presented by a spy, James McParland, working for the Pinkerton Detective Agency, who provided the plans and weapons the men purportedly used in their crimes. The entire legal process was a travesty: a private corporation (the Reading Railroad) set up the investigation through a private police force (the Pinkerton Detective Agency) and prosecuted them with their own company attorneys. No jurors were Irish, though several were recent German immigrants who had trouble understanding the proceedings.

    Nearly everything people “know” today about the Molly Maguires comes from Allan Pinkerton’s own work of fiction, The Molly Maguires and the Detectives (1877), which he marketed as nonfiction. His heavily biased book was the primary source for dozens of academic works, and for several pieces of fiction, including Arthur Conan Doyle’s final Sherlock Holmes novel, Valley of Fear (1915), and the 1970 Sean Connery film, Molly Maguires.

    My novel, Anywhere But Schuylkill, tells a truer story of these union miners and their persecution by the Pinkertons.

    You can read my complete article on the Molly Maguires here: https://michaeldunnauthor.com/2024/04/13/the-myth-of-the-molly-maguires/

    The NY Trump trial starting next Monday won't be televised, but here's what I predict we're in store for.

    The trial will be running mon-tue-thu-fri. Unless granted an absence by the judge, Trump apparently must attend this criminal trial every day it is in session.

    Reporters will be permitted to live report from the courtroom and overflow room. So there will be a continuous stream of information (mostly textual, I assume) pouring out, that will accompanied by drawings of participants and other extras.

    To what extent there will be wall-to-wall coverage on the news networks is unclear, but the trial itself is expected to run six to eight weeks or so.

    I"n December 2021, writer Thomas Harding interviewed Brigitte Höss, daughter of Rudolf Höss, SS commandant of the death camp at Auschwitz. Harding's Jewish great-uncle arrested Höss when WWII ended. Höss was hanged for his crimes against humanity.

    Harding pressed Brigitte to condemn what her father did, overseeing a death camp in which countless numbers (there's no full documentation) of people were tortured and systematically murdered.
