I just don't understand why you think this is so absurd. It's a fairly common last name. Emily springs to mind.

TheTetrapod ,

Checkmate Lincolnites Confederate sympathizers!

TheTetrapod ,

Genuinely curious if this applies to moron and idiot, since they have basically the same origin story.

TheTetrapod ,

It could be 40 and I wouldn't even consider purchasing shorts.

TheTetrapod ,

I don't know how many times I've heard professional audiobook readers say casualty instead of causality. They might have a higher hit rate, but not 100%.

TheTetrapod ,

I don't really disagree with you, but I do unironically think we should have invaded Israel months ago.

TheTetrapod ,

I think it's because a lot of people's (myself included) knee-jerk reaction is "yeah, those bags do suck", then they look at the comments and either realize the tide is against them or end up agreeing with the points in the comments upon reflection.

TheTetrapod ,

They have different protein content. Your country almost certainly has an equivalent system, perhaps with more descriptive names.

TheTetrapod ,

Garfield minus Garfield was all the rage, like, 15 years ago. They even got them printed in a book. Worth checking out, but a little out of the zeitgeist, I guess.

TheTetrapod ,

Does calling Netanyahu 'Bibi' put a bad taste in anyone else's mouth? I know people are trying to emasculate him a lot of the time, but it feels like calling Hitler 'Addy'.

TheTetrapod ,

I relate to him. My dad always worried that I would mess up the carpet, so I never had anything messy.

TheTetrapod ,

Standard middle school definition of species is applicable here. If they can breed and their offspring is fertile, they're the same species.

QED, Spock is sterile.

TheTetrapod ,

I kind of thought the Spock thing would convey I wasn't 100% serious in my reply to a weed shitpost.

TheTetrapod ,

Are there types of dryers that would be classified as machines but not tumble dryers?

TheTetrapod ,

I think most people on Lemmy would agree that private planes simply shouldn't exist, at least on a personal use level. I don't actually care at all where these rich bozos are going, but the ability to shame them for their method of travel outweighs any potential privacy concern. Airports are public places, airplanes (were) a matter of public record. If they truly want privacy, they should find an alternative means of conveyance. If they absolutely need to travel incognito, they could just charter a plane, for Pete's sake.

TheTetrapod ,

Lol, the first time I've ever been screencapped. A guy can't repost a factoid he read once and accepted non-critically without getting implicitly called a tankie around here.

TheTetrapod , (edited )

Authoritarian is a word that was made up so that Communist regimes could be lumped in with Fascist regimes more easily.

Edit: I read this somewhere and it apparently is not correct. Turns out sometimes things that feel true are not. Thanks to BarrelAgedBoredom for their well-researched reply.

House votes to require delivery of bombs to Israel in GOP-led rebuke of Biden policies ( apnews.com )

The House delivered a rebuke to President Joe Biden Thursday for pausing a shipment of bombs to Israel, passing legislation that seeks to force the weapons transfer as Republicans worked to highlight Democratic divisions over the Israel-Hamas war....

TheTetrapod ,

I found an address on Google Maps to write mine.

TheTetrapod ,

You can find a few YouTube videos of people converting normal bikes into rail bikes. It doesn't seem too labor-intensive.

TheTetrapod ,

Literally yes. It's called punching up, and it's pretty well accepted, culturally. It's basically the only trade-off to being vastly more likely to achieve economic and societal status.

TheTetrapod ,

Why are people downvoting you? This is basic stuff.

TheTetrapod ,

How is it an insult? Newsflash, you're not "all men" so you have the power to set yourself apart from the ones who are worse than bears. Men who get worked up about this stuff just need to shift their perspective. I know, I used to be one.

TheTetrapod ,

I'm sorry you're being downvoted. Anyone who disagrees with your comment either didn't read it or refused to understand it. I guess, for the purposes of this thread, Lemmy being predominantly male is outweighing it being predominantly leftist.

TheTetrapod ,

You should "go out of your way" to be a good person, not because of what random people will say about the 50% of the population you happen to fall into.

TheTetrapod ,

I'm pretty sure every woman I regularly interact with has realized that white men are scarier than men of color, by and large. Have you been paying attention for the last 8 years?

TheTetrapod ,

You are an individual! You do not need to make this general question about yourself! Gahh, it's like trying to talk to myself 10 years ago.

TheTetrapod ,

Misandry is as much of a problem as racism against white people. That is to say, it isn't one. People are punching up or punching sideways, which is fine. It's how you make positively inflammatory political statements.

TheTetrapod ,

Yes it is! Being robbed or mugged is definitely less traumatic than being raped! Murder is arguable, but it's hard to be traumatized when you're dead. You need to understand that it is okay for marginalized groups (women) to "punch up" at more societally powerful groups (men). You don't judge the nerds at school for talking shit about their bullies.

TheTetrapod ,

Sometimes things are more nuanced than "bad thing is bad". We have thousands of years of history underpinning this conversation, and for most of that time, women were treated like dirt. It is healthy, natural, and human for an underclass to harbor fear and resentment toward its oppressor class. And if the way that is expressed is twitter memes, so be it.

TheTetrapod ,

My dream is for Spotify (and other music playing apps) to let you customize your shuffle algorithm. Minimum number of songs between repeating an artist or album, that sort of thing.

TheTetrapod ,

The enemy of Israel is my friend, brother.

TheTetrapod ,

I think we need to dust off the "How to Orchestrate a Coup" playbook.

TheTetrapod ,

Violent revolution is inevitable, if not imminent.

TheTetrapod ,

Apparently it's the fancy word for wind power.

TheTetrapod ,

As a 3d printer enthusiast, I object to you implying that 3d printed parts aren't high quality, while acknowledging that you're very correct.

TheTetrapod ,

Hey! It depends which 9/11 conspiracy theories he believes.

‘It is simple. You name the crime’: AOC has contentious exchange with Biden probe witness ( www.cnn.com )

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez asked former Biden family associate Tony Bobulinski about what crimes he alleges he witnessed President Biden commit during a House Oversight Committee hearing. CNN's Melanie Zanona breaks down the exchange.

TheTetrapod ,

News outlets, I implore you, please start writing articles and stop just posting videos.

TheTetrapod ,

I pronounce it with the a sound I'd use in "warp".

TheTetrapod ,

This feels like cheating to me. Surely in an ideal world all balls would be evenly weighted like dice, right?

TheTetrapod ,

I think it should be an option to delete post and comment history upon account deletion, but by no means the rule. I hate finding swiss cheese threads on social media. Part of commenting on a platform like this is contributing your voice to the value of an overall discussion, and revoking that contribution is frequently more obnoxious for your fellow users than it is beneficial to you.

Secondary Fun Fact: It was created by a franchise owner, against the wishes of CEO Ray Kroc, who had created a sandwich with grilled pineapple as a meat substitute for that purpose.
