In the Algebraicist by Ian M. Banks some aliens come to earth in early human history and take a bunch of humans and human DNA and set them up all over the galaxy— get them up to speed on tech and those humans and the aliens just leave Earth alone to develop “naturally” — so when humans on earth eventually explore the galaxy some of the aliens they meet are just other humans. (this is just a minor plot point if you can imagine)

So if this happened are you mad? Or no?

"The problem that the press needs to explain in those articles is this: why do most voters wrongly believe that the economy is terrible even if their lived experience of it is generally positive? Rarely do these chin-scratching articles ever figure out the most obvious answer: that the press is partly to blame—and that America’s information pipelines are broken, giving millions of voters a dangerously inverted sense of reality."

@wdlindsy The economy = rich people's stocks. That has no benefit to those of us who work for a living. Inflation adjusted Pay has catered while the cost of living is boosted by the same rich people.

The economy is NOT doing well because the entire thing is dangerously top heavy.

Remember how...well damn, every major civilization I can remember...had massive wealth inequality at it's end?

TeflonTrout ,
@TeflonTrout@mastodon.social avatar

@wdlindsy who said anything about blaming Biden exclusively? Majority of blame is on red.

However, I object to the economy being held up as a measure of how great the US is doing. You mentioned the very low employment- now THAT is something for Biden to be happy with, and while it is a part of the economy, its just a part. Alongside school debt forgiveness, green measures, etc.

However, I stand by the issue of real wages being terrible meaning the economy in general isn't healthy to start.

#Israel / Smotrich: If Hezbollah Does Not Comply with the Ultimatum We Set, the IDF Must Take Control of Southern Lebanon

During a visit to the North, Smotrich said that Israel should notify #Hezbollah that if it does not completely stop firing into its territory and does not withdraw beyond the Litani River - it must launch an offensive in Lebanon that will include a ground incursion, to take over the south of #Lebanon.

Thing is, centipedes are famously fastidious. They wash every single leg multiple times a day and seem rather like a very leggy cat while doing it.

Perhaps it's because they are predators. Predators seem to tend to be into washing up more.

(I know it's a millipede in the cartoon, but that just makes it funnier since the centipede would roll their eyes at the complaining. )

TeflonTrout ,
@TeflonTrout@mastodon.social avatar

@futurebird not a lot gets to me, but I once woke up with a centipede inside my sleeping bag, under my shirt, biting me.

I woke up with the worst feeling of dread I've ever had, including a rocket hitting within a few hundred feet of my CHU.

THEN I FEEL PINCHES, AND THEY BURN

I jumped up, shimmied out of my bag, danced out into the moonlight, too horrified to make a sound. I shook the bag out and the little bastard scuttled away into a bush.

    Conservation practices of the Indigenous tribes of the Pacific Northwest taught him about ecology, and helped inspire the planet Arrakis. Thanks to Leslie Reid’s pioneering ecological study “The Sociology of Nature” he found a model for the ecosystem of Arrakis in the Guano islands of Peru.

    Have you ever had an uncanny or possibly paranormal experience?

    I have.

    It happened when I was in undergrad, I had a work-study in the Archivists Office in the rare books section of the library. The library is a classic modern building from the 50s, once ahead of its time, now well behind. The computer system was similar, my college being one of the first to adopt a digital library catalog in the late 60s

    So, as you can see, this is, in part, a story of a haunted computer terminal. 1/
