What's was your favourite fast food product that unfortunately got retired and never came back?

Here, for a while at McDonald's there was a 🍔 called "the 1955" and it was the best, big pieces of onion, an special sauce, buns and big piece of beef with bacon (for Europe standards anyways) it disappeared once and came back for an encore only to be removed again and never return.

I miss Cadbury nuts about chocolate. It was a caramel with a while nut in the middle. A bit like the purple rose.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

A lot of the original versions of the brothers Grimm stories. For example Cinderella, one of the sisters chops off bits of her feet so that she can try and get into the shoe Cinderella dropped. I think the Prince only figured it out because she's dripping in blood.

I really don't feel like the quality of life is high in the US. How is that measured? Affordable healthcare? Well paid jobs? Affordable healthy produce? Access to public transport? Good infrastructure? Little wealth disparity? Access to education? Can someone tell me which of these the US leads in?

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

Im partial to just a bit of lemon myself. That sauce looks like it could be nice but put it on the side and preserve the crisp!

The freshwater snails are hosts, much like mosquitos in this diagram. They host platyhelminthes. The ascaris and tapeworms are also helminths. As far as I know anyway. I can understand that they wanted to show animals in the diagram because you can actually avoid those but avoiding the snails won't actually help because the worms infect by being excreted by the snail and infecting another host(human or other), usually in water.

It's inherent in the two party system I feel. It's analogous to that analogy about the two guys on the beach selling ice cream. They start at one end each but in the end they move closer and closer to one another in the middle of the beach or where the most people are. So the Democrats only have to be just "better" than the Republicans to look good and they definitely want to take some of the votes closer to centre.

That being said, they have FAR better stances than the Republicans on many things.

Edit: autocorrect and a typo

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

I can fit the majority of my little finger up my nostrils. My nose might be slightly larger than normal and my hands are about normal. It just fits up there with a little twist.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

That kinda sucks. I'm an odd one myself in that I'm extremely interested in history and as an extension war since it has been a huge part in shaping.... Everything. I am simultaneously very anti war politically because of the horrors of course but I do also want to think about strategies etc. Are there any good communities that discuss this without just descending into who's side people should be on. For example I'm on Ukraine side but I can totally enjoy thinking about the question "what do Russia need to achieve to take region X, why is it important to them, what's the timeframe and what equipment is needed". I have read/watched plenty about war strategies up to WW2, maybe a bit of Vietnam etc. Nothing modern really.

It really helps choosing the things that work best to freeze. For example chicken breasts suck when reheated, it's the nature of the cut of meat. It's so easy to dry out chicken breast. Additionally, I never freeze starches unless they are "drowned" in sauce. Freezing a bunch of fries is not going to lead to a nice meal later but freezing a stew which has potatoes in it works. Minced meat is very forgiving, same too with chicken thighs, drumsticks. Anything with a higher fat content and already has sauce.

Good Examples: I'll freeze Bolognese sauce, no pasta. Cook the pasta on the day. Curries without rice. Stews. Soups. All of these with fattier cuts of meat and with sauce covering the food. Maybe it protects it. All of these can even taste better from the freezer somehow.

Bad examples: lean steak, pork chops, vegetables. Essentially, anything which has to be cooked almost perfectly to be good. Fresh fruits are gonna suck texturally also but they will be absolutely perfect in smoothies, sauces, syrups etc.

Pull it out and leave in on the mayor's lawn. It'll be disposed of in no time. You know, even just deface it with a chisel.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

Fucks sake. I just looked this up. Is it a requirement for a GOP appointed judge to be a sexual predator, looking at you kavanagh. Any others?

They are protesting because Tesla want to extend their factory and chop down a forest to do so.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

Why wouldn't they trust him? It's a bit like that Maya Angelou quote: when people show you who they are believe them first time.

Thing is his supporters believe him because it's what they want. They trust him. Staunch critics believe him because it's what they fear, they trust he'll do terrible things. Those that don't yet believe him are naive or deluded thinking it's just as bad to vote for Biden. I don't understand these people.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

America is a very individualist country to my eyes. People see taxes as paying for someone else's healthcare or homeless shelter rather than paying for the things that everyone needs. There are only 2 sides in the election. Most people can't ever see themselves switching sides, it's a big change in thinking for a lot of topics. Hell the vote is usually decided by the turnout rather than people being convinced to switch sides. Trumps followers want him to hurt who they perceive as "their enemy", i.e. Democrats (and non whites ssshhhh). And in fairness he does and they are happy that he does. They don't envisage themselves ever in the group that he is attacking so whatever he's gonna do to them is fine. They do sometimes end up in that group though:

I saw a comment on here I think which said that a big problem in parks which have bears is that it's really difficult to design a rubbish bin which is simultaneously too difficult for the smartest bear to open but also easy enough for the dumbest human. These types of anecdotes make me believe that more and more.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

I like to turn that one around and say: nobody says on their death bed that they regret spending so much time with their kids.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

I think loads of things got better but advertising just got worse and worse. It's everywhere now. The Internet used to have no advertising. For live sports they have screens on the side of the pitch which constantly change the ads. There are sometimes ads superimposed (computationally) on the pitch grass. Sometimes they make the viewing size of the screen smaller so they can show you an ad around the edge. Or the worst, they just have a banner at the bottom with ads scrolling. Sports jerseys/vehicles etc are more and more cluttered by ads. Obviously the big change in the opposite direction is with streaming vs classic cable but even now streaming is trying to ram ads back in there. As an adult for me Mobile phones have always been available but we're talking pre Smart phones. Smart phones are just another place that I look that has ads and older phones didn't have ads. They had shit screens of course but no ads. YouTube, more and more ads. Podcasts, loads of ads, there used to be none.

If you have allergies and don't want pills or spray then I think you should definitely try the nasal rinse others have suggested. It literally washes the allergens out of you sinuses. I recommend a neti sprayer as I get better flushing than the pot. The one I used is similar to the one made by "tone life" if you want to search it.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

I recommend doing it about 30 minutes before sleep. My sinus will continue draining for a while after doing it which is harder for it to do if I'm lying down. Good luck.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

Wasn't illegal voting already illegal? What did he do exactly?

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

What are you talking about? I'm not American, I'm confused. I'm not trolling I'm genuinely confused. I don't get how he can make something illegal if it already was illegal.

Trump is funneling campaign money into cash-strapped businesses. Experts say it looks bad. ( archive.ph )

Donald Trump’s main 2024 White House campaign fundraising operation sharply increased spending at the former president's properties in recent months, funneling money into his businesses at a time when he is facing serious legal jeopardy and desperately needs cash....

Remember when Kushner solved the middle East crisis. He was hired by his father in law, ignored all the security issues along with the nepotism but the crazy thing is, it worked! Those lads in the middle East are all pals now. There's been no unrest since! Nepotism is ok sometimes!

What's the most interesting traditional or formal politeness behaviour or table manners in your culture? Or for any service personnel, in your restaurant? ( kbin.social )

I love all the ritualized behaviour, secret meanings and unexpected taboos - standing up when someone of higher status stands, elaborate rules for serving and eating, tapping the table to thank the server, never refuse a toast from a superior, stuff like that....

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

It's not more efficient in how people want to get there. The people who stand and ride the escalator have no rush to get there quicker so they get there on time. The people who want/need to go faster get there as fast as possible. In your scenario everyone MUST be slow, no? What am I missing here?

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

Abortions for some, miniature American flags for others!

Who is doing the most good in the world, and how? ( kbin.social )

My feed is filled with bad news, which is my fault for using the fediverse as a news feed, but it made me wonder: Which organisations, groups or individual people in the world are doing the most good for our world? I'm particularly interested in those who manage to do good on a larger impact scale (quantity or quality), but if...

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

I'll piggyback this and recommend teachsurfing.org

You can teach your skills all over the world. Get invited by institutes that need your skills. Run workshops etc. Or just learn stuff yourself from people visiting your own or close by cities.

How do you close a park? Are the parks fenced/gated?

Father of Marine killed in 2021 suicide bomb attack at Afghanistan's Kabul airport arrested at SOTU ( www.yahoo.com )

During Biden's speech, Nikoui could be heard yelling, "Abbey Gate, Abbey Gate" at approximately 10:15 p.m. ET. Abbey Gate is the entrance to Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan, where a single explosive device was detonated by an ISIS-K terrorist. The blast killed 13 U.S. service members and at least 170...

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

The narrative isn't even valued. How many times does Trump say something and then pretend he never said it. Or other members of the GOP say "I don't think he really means that". All that's valued is pissing off the liberals by being arrogant, loud jerks.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

It's common for German people to just answer the phone with their surname at work. He wasn't being offensive.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

I live in Germany, it's how people answer the phone here, often. Not everyone but a lot, no Hallo after, just name.

PeterLossGeorgeWall ,

What a happy ending. Some people are really cynical about the Internet these days but it's things like your comment that give me hope.
