Eh… ALAB..? Just like ACAB we’re hyper polarizing ourselves into ‘us vs them’ groups, just like the mainstream media and the capitalistic elite wants us to!

What was that early Jedi mantra, that they later dropped and bastardized but originally had a good point? Something about absolutism in thinking?

I say all this knowing you’re going to tear me up for it, but critical thinking and discussion is better than mindlessly following narratives that are being pushed on us by our puppeteers, too. Even if you think ‘hey, this is a new bad guy I can get behind’, remember, that’s also the distraction they’re putting in front of you.

POV: my house, that I am currently sitting in, is 4 hours away from my office, where I was recently promoted to and stay during the week. In the next year I might try to rent out a room, to… maintain someone here making sure it isn’t broken into or vandalized, and to offset some of the mortgage. When I transfer back, if I get the chance, in the next couple years I’ll return to my home being intact and I’ll invest in some upgrades I’ve wanted. In the meantime? I still fully expect to come out weekly to maintain it. Bad guy? Come on, there’s A Bad Guy, and that’s the capitalistic elite. ‘ACAB’ and ‘ALAB’..? Don’t lose sight of the true enemy here, there’s a myriad of variety for everything in between us and them.

NJSpradlin ,

I think Anyone who wants to stifle honest and open discussion and who wants* to push a narrative that strips all nuance from complicated situations… to fill their own agenda… Are Bad.

And I’m on Lemmy, and generally fit the demographic here. I would just like for us to sometimes have a little more nuanced conversation instead of mindlessly doom scrolling and falling in line. Ok?

NJSpradlin ,

Betty and Bob who are in their sixties, and Bob who still does all the maintenance on the apartment, aren’t the bad guy. They’re renting out a portion of their property because society failed them, because the capitalistic elite failed them, and they don’t have the safety net they should have already had to carry them through their retirement years.

It takes five seconds to realize that mindlessly saying ‘ALAB’ removes too much nuance here. Big corporations that are buying up the land and putting out overpriced apartments? Pricing out the community that lives there? Yeah, absolutely. Pass me a pitchfork and I’ll jump in behind you. But all of this ‘A*AB’ stuff gets nonsensical very quickly.

NJSpradlin ,

Ok, so we’re going to throw a negative generalization up to support our narrative of ‘ALAB’.

I purchased my home within the last 4 years. Before that my wife rented from the same owner for 10 years. Living in midtown Atlanta, a place that is now full of 1.5 million dollar homes on postal stamp sized lots. That landlord or owner may have had a few properties, we don’t know, but it was a personal rental that was a 2Bed/1bath for 2/3rds the local rate. And they did the maintenance at their expense.

They also have kept up with her afterward, and mentioned that they wish that they could have found another tenant like us. If I rented out a portion of my place while I was living out of town for work? I’d aspire to be as good as they were. Sadly, it’s just me now so maintenance and yard work would have to wait for the weekends.

Let’s just have a little more nuance. Big Corpo is bad, but not everyone who is trying to make a living is.

NJSpradlin ,

Only the Sith deal in absolutes, my friend.

NJSpradlin ,

Hey, man. Take that up with ol’ Lucas over there.

NJSpradlin ,

Thank you for the nuanced response.

NJSpradlin ,

I will say… that I heard rumor of price fixing in the rental market and the DOJ investigating it, link below from a quick google search. I haven’t really dived deep into that topic, but it’s there if you’re interested in a little read.

NJSpradlin ,

But the strip mine brings generational jobs and careers to the community, through stripping the area of its natural resources to enrich the wealthy!

Get out of here with your socialist wind!

Movie Trailers Are Killing Movies ( www.gamespot.com )

A great movie trailer can single handedly turn a movie into a success story--like that genius Cloverfield trailer in 2007 that didn't say what the title of the movie was. But it's more common these days, I'd argue, for a trailer to have the opposite impact. A generic trailer can so thoroughly dampen hype for a film that...

NJSpradlin ,

Just stop watching trailers and go in blind.

One of my favorite reveals was finding out that ‘Passengers’ wasn’t a train movie, which made everything that much better being blindsided by a pretty decent scifi story when I was expecting another train murder mystery.

NJSpradlin ,

Noise canceling headphones and an audiobook or music, I do it every time.

NJSpradlin , (edited )

That’s why also waiting until they’re streaming helps, too. If it’s an IP I’m already interested in, I’ll see it in theatres, blind, if it’s something new I’ll generally wait for it to be stream able then do the same at home.

Edit: case in point, I’m watching Tenet now and had no clue what it was about and it’s blowing my mind. I can’t believe I slept on this one for so long.

NJSpradlin ,

And add onto that that Former (felonious) President Trump’s personal Doctor said he was the fittest president ever! The doctors will absolutely be on the payroll when it comes to the most powerful politicians.

NJSpradlin ,

“… I don’t know why I did it.” says the person who has been doing it for years.

NJSpradlin ,

You wouldn’t have to go far or work hard to guess what party the victim was from, either.

NJSpradlin ,

I use digital notes, reminder checklists, and calendar with my partner, since those are shareable across our devices.

But, for work I use a small notebook where I write down every tasks to-do or completed, and the supporting tasks under that. I write the tasks in black, and X the check blocks I make for the tasks/subtasks in red. Any ticket numbers or additional notes (dates, etc) that come up are also written in red, so that they stand out more easily for review later.

For work related appointments or dates, I use outlook calendar.

https://www.excelsior.edu/article/what-is-the-difference-between-parole-officers-and-probation-officers/

Probation: you don’t go to jail, a probation officer is assigned during the sentencing phase

Parole: you just got let out of jail early and a parole officer is assigned to you

Similarities: you still get a government baby sitter and your rights stripped from you,

Differences: when they’re assigned and when you get them.

Edit: for those that came after his edit, he initially stated ‘parole’ officer.

NJSpradlin ,

Did you read the article, though?

NJSpradlin ,

Why didn’t you wrap it with another bag, or your reused plastic one? This seems like a non-issue user error.

NJSpradlin ,

Sounds like you could be doing both, with re-using that ziplock you aren’t unnecessarily contributing to plastic waste.

NJSpradlin ,

What’s the connection? Did any of these countries put themselves on the wrong side of China or Russia?

NJSpradlin ,

Could be, but I like political intrigue stories. This has the makings of being another spy action thriller staring that buff white actor named ‘Chris’.

NJSpradlin ,

This is one that gets me. Jon Oliver just did an episode on servers and tipping, and raved on tipping, fully promote tip culture. I love the guy and enjoy his shows and viewpoints, but, I fucking hate it! On principle! I shouldn’t have to tip you, and I hate that you’re trying to guilt me into it. You are an employee and should make a livable wage. And if I don’t tip you (depending on the local laws) the business is supposed to pay you
AT LEAST minimum wage if your tips don’t put you above that.

Why should I subsidize your employers pay for you? Nah, man. That’s like Walmart actively paying their employees less than a livable wage AND directly helping their employees sign up for different government assistance options. Why the fuck don’t you just pay them instead of outsource their pay to the customer through tips or taxes?

“This isn’t even my property! I had to move home to my father’s third vacation mansion*, because I had to sell my only one so that I could pay off this unjust judgment! I’m not even making any money! The new clothes? The new car? They’re my father’s, he lets me use them because I had to sell all of mine! The Rolex? I’m borrowing my father’s!”

NJSpradlin ,

That’s why the GOP appointed ones will continue to toe the line, and the others will either fall in line or be expeditiously replaced (read: assassinated). What we’re seeing is a Putin level of control over the government being given to the Republican Party. Very soon you’ll have more than just Boeing whistleblowers dying randomly, you’ll have Democratic politicians and appointees falling out windows.

NJSpradlin , (edited )

And AOC*, gone.

NJSpradlin ,

It’s doublespeak. We have entered the timeline where 1984 actually exists immediately in front of us. When the narrative is changed, the past is overwritten or denied, labeled as a deep fake and an attack by their political opponent.

NJSpradlin ,

Nah, man. I’m totes voting for my boy Trump because he said I can have my gas stove and gas truck. So, double issue voter. Fully supporting my golden bro because he’s my christo brother.

Idc about his;

  1. blackmailing of Ukraine, and his impeachment from this,
  2. support and ties to rush-ah, and other dictatorships around the world,
  3. undermining democracy globally, to include threats of pulling out of our global defense alliances,
  4. violent rhetoric and attempted coup, and his impeachment for this,
  5. sex with a pornstar and hush up payment utilizing campaign funds and subsequent corruption and coverup,
  6. attempt to destroy the USPS in order to undermine mail in voting during a pandemic,
  7. terrible handling of the pandemic and undermining trust in science on the subject contributing significantly to large American death toll,
  8. Appointing under-skilled and extreme AND extremely partisan Supreme Court justices who; destroyed women’s right to medical privacy and their abortion rights, are constantly undermining voters rights across the country, are constantly undermining equal rights for LGBTQ citizens,
  9. for his raiding of government and tax payer coffers by; removing the oversight body for PPP loans and stating he would ‘personally oversee it himself’ which lead to significant corruption and theft, by giving the ultra wealthy further tax breaks at the expense of the middle and lower class, by utilizing his venues AND not distancing himself from his organization and funneling money for his Secret Service at his overpriced hotels,
  10. I’m done, I can’t give an all inclusive list of things I’m going to ignore for my Bro (twice impeached) Former President Trump.
NJSpradlin ,

For my fellow Americans out there, I read recently that a ‘stone’ was ‘14 pounds’. So, 10 year old Jack Lis was mauled to death by a 98 pound ‘bully dog’, or a dog weighing about a ‘buck’.

Don’t judge me if I’m a little off, our friends ‘across the pond’.

NJSpradlin ,

Sure, but that’s taking the guy’s statement at face value when you know he’s speaking in doublespeak and bad faith. He and his team are absolutely going to cry ‘unfair’ if they don’t win, like they did before.

So, the writing and the interview questions should have used this statement or answer and tied it into a broader statement about how they’re already actively attempting to disrupt the electoral process so that they can then claim ‘unfair’ and build toward a second J6 event/coup.

NJSpradlin ,

I think the blankets thing might be separate from sheets? I never wash blankets unless something spills or a dog gets in the bed and leaves a mess. Why would I? There are always sheets between the blankets and my skin and I wash the sheets every two weeks.

NJSpradlin ,

Pre-orders need to fucking stop. And producers and developers should fucking stop using them as a metric. I’m just some fucking lay-man over here, but how many people pre-ordered* NMS? That fucking studio is still working their ass off to rebuild the relationship that they failed at to begin with. And they actually have a fucking heart.

AC? GTA? And every other major developer? They’re fucking vampires sucking everything dry.

NJSpradlin ,

Alright, I’ll bite. I actually swing by the rotten tomatoes for a quick half hearted glance to see if even THEY thought it was trash. If it’s trash to them on both of their metrics, I’ll probably mark it lower on my watch list. If it’s mediocre or higher I’ll go in with no expectation of greatness but at least knowing it may be somewhat entertaining.

NJSpradlin ,

And the ones getting slaps on the wrist. Wasn’t one Republican official charged with like 8 counts and still only had to pay $5k? Whereas that black lady in Texas or Alabama almost went to jail, after being told she could vote by the staff, and it didn’t count regardless while the dude’s 8-9 votes did.

NJSpradlin ,

Lowest bidder contracts for shipping. The ships I’ve seen, with what little I’ve done in that environment, is fucking wild. I’m not surprised at all.

NJSpradlin ,

I’d argue that every single star wars movie has been cheap or just decent enough compared to some of their shows and animated series. Honestly, the best works were probably season 1 of Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Andor and Rogue One.

Sure, we have rose colored sunglasses when we look back to the OG trilogy, but their better works weren’t part of the mainline trilogies.

NJSpradlin ,

What’s the issue with ‘deepfakes’ when people have been cutting and pasting celeb faces onto nude bodies for ages? Nothing has changed, they still exist and will continue to exist. What we need is to be less of a bunch of fucking prudes and harden ourselves instead of trying to plug holes in a sinking ship.

NJSpradlin ,

Wasn’t there controversy about the Tesla shutting down when submerged and how you couldn’t open the windows or unlock the doors because they hadn’t built in emergency safety releases? Or was that a different earlier model that has been fixed by now?

NJSpradlin ,

As he fucking should. He explicitly destroyed an approved religious statue on government property because it didn’t fit his religious beliefs. The committed violence against the ST for religious reasons.

In tiers of ‘hate crime’ I wouldn’t put it up there with setting a cross on fire (which has other religious connotations) or fire bombing a church… but, fuck. We should all just respect each others’ equal rights to worship as we see fit, and if the government is going to permit one ideology to put up religious iconography on their grounds, then they must include the other religions.

NJSpradlin ,

Dude, I’d like to see who the deceased voted for on the last two elections. Because we know he fucking did.
