What's was your favourite fast food product that unfortunately got retired and never came back?

Here, for a while at McDonald's there was a 🍔 called "the 1955" and it was the best, big pieces of onion, an special sauce, buns and big piece of beef with bacon (for Europe standards anyways) it disappeared once and came back for an encore only to be removed again and never return.

Might be worth buying an infrared thermometer to see if there is wiring overheating in your walls. I'm not an electrician but i wonder if it's something then can happen sporadically such as if there is something drawing a lot of power that turns on/off. There are inexpensive ones out there and they can be handy to have around.

According to the article his sister has been hospitalized and both her and their mother have a hard time getting work because of being associated with Kyle Rittenhouse. BTW the mother did not drive him that's a fallacy

Have you read the Wikipedia page? It's pretty interesting

If you like these kinds of movies (I call them road flicks, linear story line, lots of cameos) I have a few suggestions:

It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World

Cannonball Run

Rat Race

Who's Minding the Mint?

Why do I puke more than once when I've been drunk?

So I've been drinking and it becomes like I drink water and I puke right away. So it's like what's the point of puking if I can't get rid of all the toxicant in one go. I end up just puking whatever I put in. I assume puking is good but yeah I don't get the point if it can't be just a one time thing.

Is it possible you're allergic to alcohol?

I am scared to flirt with girls.

I don't have any issue talking to girls when the intent is not romantic/sexual. OK I have met someone, first few conversations went alright, how do I transition to something else without being embarrassed and feeling like a dick? Like, if I want to say something technical or communicate for something else, everything is fine....

Hikermick ,

Flirting is a compliment. Don't be ashamed of complimenting people, we could all use a little more of it

Hikermick ,

I thought that to be interesting, never heard that before. Wonder what the reasoning is?

Hikermick ,

Same thing happened with Bannon before the 2020 election. It won't make a difference to the cult

Hikermick ,

Credit card insurance. If stolen you're only liable for the first 50 bucks

Hikermick ,

It's not all bad. Lake Erie has been experiencing record high water levels that are eroding the shore. In a suburb east of Cleveland private property owners along the lake have agreed to let the local government build a paved trail on their property as it includes a boulder wall to prevent erosion. So far it's not long enough for a commuter trail but it improves access to the lake. Hopefully one day it will follow the shoreline all the way into downtown Cleveland.

What do you all check instead of the news?

I've realized that I check the news several times a day but not because I'm curious about what's happening on the grand scheme of things, but because my brain wants to check something that keeps changing with new, evolving information. It fills a slightly different niche than social media, and I don't watch sports so I don't...

Hikermick ,

There's always the weather. I check that plus an app I have for the guages on our local rivers as I am a fly fisherman.

Hikermick ,

Spoiler Alert: they invaded other countries because they wanted their stuff

Hikermick ,

I grew up reading Warner Bros comic books my grandma had and thought Yosemite Sam was pronounced "Yosemight". Eventually figured it out. Later my backpacking buddy and I were looking at a map of California when he told me we should check out "Yosemight" if we ever get around to visiting Yosemite

Hikermick ,

I pocket these whenever they're available for free in places where I work. Recently downloaded a free app that measures decibels and was amazed.

Hearing loss is different from other things they warn you about. Get something in my eye? Guess I'll start wearing eye protection. Back hurts? Guess I'll start lifting with my knees. Hearing loss is different. You won't lose your hearing, you'll lose the ability to understand what people are saying in a noisy environment, it hurts you socially. Having to say "huh?" repeatedly is embarrassing, it makes you withdraw.

I write down some stuff on a scratch pad like tasks and little things i need to pick up. There's something satisfying about crossing them off my list. Also when I plan a longer vacation where I stay in multiple places I need to write it out like a calendar with details for each day.

I use text files on my phone for longer term stuff. A Christmas gift list for ideas that pop up during the year, checklists for outdoor trips I plan regularly that i can send to others, a shopping list of fly tying materials (some are hard to find, I stop at various stores when convenient). Also I keep a list of cheap cabins to stay in with links to their websites.

Hikermick ,

The spicier the better. Blenheim red cap is best if you can find it

Hikermick ,

Totally agree. During the winter the parks are empty, no little, no bugs, no noise, no sun screen. The only downside is the early darkness

Hikermick ,

Gift them a video game console. When I was young we must have drove all the neighbors nuts, running across their yards playing sports. My neighborhood now has kids but it's nice and quiet. Thank you Playstation and Xbox

Hikermick ,

Years ago my dad and I were working on something and he stood up after having been kneeling on the ground. He made a series of moans and grunts on the way up and I asked "Dad how old are you?". "Thirty" he said. After that I thought life was over after thirty. Boy, was I wrong. Also I've been making the same groans when I stand up for the past twenty years regardless if something hurts or not

Hikermick ,

If more Americans visited Europe they'd understand

Hikermick ,

It happens. Half the time people get bummed, the other half they are OK with it and will tell you they have a hard time remembering names too. I am in the latter group. When I forget a name and the person is obviously upset I'll tell them "let me tell you something few people beside my wife know about me, I have this social anxiety that yadayadayada...". This usually smooths things out as I've shown a vulnerable side and nice people sympathize with that. If they don't fuck em

What do people today act like is new, when it's already have been a thing or already been around? ( kbin.social )

Gamers like to make it sound like $70 is a new thing today for video games. When, I've seen adverts of games back in late 90s and early 90s that were priced $70. It's always been around so I find it ridiculous that so many of them complain that the pricing is too high when, it's been a thing....

Hikermick ,

I can do the same by cupping my hand in my armpit then jerking my arm down like a chicken wing real fast. Is this still a thing? I haven't been a kid since the 70's

Hikermick ,

They've been playing the victim card for decades. It's been a constant "we're oppressed/we've got them on the run" for as long as I can remember

Hikermick ,

Asset forfeiture was a big part of the War On Drugs. Here in Cleveland the cops confiscated a drug dealer's hot rod car (Trans Am I think) and used it for a patrol car, painted just like the other cop cars.
The Feds used to have to publish a list of all seizures, maybe still do. Once a week it was in USA Today and it was 4 pages long. IIRC Mid 90's Congress passed a law hampering the ability to seize and the weekly lists were 2 pages long after that

What are some free interests/things/hobbies you can do in the city?

I live alone and I'm just wasting away my time here. It's actually making me very depressed to be honest. I do live in the city which makes think there ought to be at least something to do out here. Though I can't really afford to spent money on it every day....

Hikermick ,

Might help if you name what city you are in. If there is a college there are often cheap/free things you can latch onto even if you aren't a student.

Hikermick ,

IMO if/when people snap out of it they just fade away and don't post about it. We all have our pride. These people were convinced they were so much smarter than everyone else, that's a tough pill to swallow. The same thing happens with cults and political beliefs. That's why I try to keep things light hearted and civil when debating politics. Leave wiggle room for people to come around. It's not about humiliating them, it's about seeing the light

Hikermick , (edited )

In the mid 2000's gasoline prices rose to over $4 a gallon and the interest in alternative fuels spiked and so did commercials for energy companies on cable news channels. I don't know where there's a ConocoPhilips but I saw their commercial a thousand times where grandpa takes his grandson fly fishing and they release the trout they caught. Same with the Areva commercial with the catchy pop song and cute animated windmill graphics

Hikermick ,

If nobody wants to work then who the hell are all these people on the freeway during rush hour?

Hikermick ,

It's really bothering me that he isn't wearing hearing protection. Take it seriously

Hikermick ,

I fly fish and therefore pay attention to aquatic insects. The rivers in my area definitely have more bugs largely due to efforts to cut pollution

Hikermick ,

I've been a subscriber for years and think it's very much worth it. They keep improving on the site with new features regularly. I also take lessons. My musical tastes are a little out of the norm and teacher is older so most of what I want to learn is new to him. Printing up tabs ahead of time saves him the trouble of tabbing out the song while I just sit there. More time is spent learning. Yeah they're not all 100% correct but it's usually close enough to save time

Hikermick ,

Maybe soften the apple by boiling it? Years ago I read the trick to ripping a phone book in half was to bake it in the oven

Hikermick ,

I live in the path of totality and I'm already tired of hearing about it.

Hikermick ,

In 5th grade Catholic middle school they show us an anti drug movie hosted by Rosey Grier. There's clips of people going through withdrawal, photos of people who smuggled drugs under incisions in their skin, all kinds of horrible stuff. It was similar to the real life gore movies they used to show during driver's ed classes. They did apologize after realizing they messed up. It's no wonder I didn't try weed until I was 18. I haven't been able to find this on the internet

Hikermick ,

It's the only organization he could spell plus it's all caps so of course he joined

Hikermick ,

Give them a boring answer them leave weird shit for them to find like maps to exotic places in your trash bin and secret coded messages in the photocopy machine

Hikermick ,

When their feet are held to the fire the copypasta response is "I was merely stating my opinion, no reasonable person would think it a fact"

Hikermick ,

Hmm that's a good point but the article doesn't explicitly say. It does mention another person getting caught for the same thing. It does say she made up the names and social security numbers, I can't imagine anyone could get away with that since the ballots would be verified when counted. Either way I love the fact these people prove themselves wrong and then go to jail for it

Edit: you're right WaPo reports the lawmaker turned her in
