Trump's "Migrant Fight League"

Trump has repeated this story 3 times. The point: Migrants* are so dangerous and vicious they could beat everyone in the UFC. It is wildly dehumanizing.

(The word "Migrant" is used now instead of "illegals." "Migrant" describes the work people do, there are documented migrants. One step closer to it being openly about race and nothing else.)

I think his followers would have enjoyed it more, if he'd said the UFC fighters would win. They would have cheered.

🚨 “'s far right is gaining momentum for the first time since World War II

The political landscape in France is shifting, with a far right party continuing to gain momentum ahead of the country's snap parliamentary elections later this month.”

@GottaLaff it's been getting momentum for decades, and slowly, it's getting to a majority of expressed opinions.

The nuance is important, many people don't vote, and in particular, people on the more radical left, tend to not vote, or refuse to vote to make a center-left candidate win, i don't know if them voting, would be enough to turn it around. The right has a large responsibility by blurring the lines over the years, ostensibly distancing themselves, but reusing their vocabulary.

French President Macron urges moderate politicians to regroup to defeat far right in elections -AP

    tshirtman ,
    @tshirtman@mas.to avatar

@GottaLaff he’s not just doing that though, he’s also putting the "far left" (at least half of which is pretty much socdec) in the same bag as the far right, and hopes for a split vote on the left so his party is the only one facing the far right in the second step of the election, to gain back a real majority.

But the left is actually working really hard to unite widely and make the most of the crazy situation macron created.

Elon Musk officially turns his social medium X into a porn site.

Man, this is a desperate move.

As long as it's produced by consenting adults, is not stolen material, and presented hidden behind CW, or limited to people who already accepted the possibility of viewing that, i don't see anything wrong with that.

There are real dangers in AI, most of them relate to people using these technologies in improper ways due to having a poor understanding of what they really are... and most important the exploitation & degradation of the human body of knowledge creativity represented by publicly available digital information. 1/

Brilliant proposal by German politicians: Let us place air defence systems inside NATO, and have these systems save civilian lives by shooting down missiles over western Ukraine.

    This is pretty clever because

    2. The systems cannot trigger a war with Russia themselves, as they are not attacking Russia.

If the language is java then the least enjoyable part is deciding if you want to store a number as a float or an int (formatted if you need decimals) ... then always changing your mind and having to go through and fix the numbers so they work.

@randahl and the +30% is certainly also a consequence, companies had to make up for the lost money and people also wanted to make up for the "lost time",

However, I'm of the opinion that plane tickets should be more expensive, especially for frequent flyers. We need to deincetivize such unsustainable practices.

@randahl that could be a start/thing to try indeed. Probably not enough, but certainly a large step in the right direction.

    He’s lying.

on Wednesday said he would not sign a federal ban if one reached his desk were he to be elected in November.”

@GottaLaff Convenient useless hypothetical, doesn’t say anything about what he’d do if he was to be elected in November and put in power next January.

#Hamas has told international mediators – which include Qatar and Egypt — it does not have 40 living hostages who match those criteria for release, both sources said. CNN’s record of the conditions of the hostages also suggests there are fewer than 40 living hostages who meet the proposed criteria.”

I kid you not: Marjorie Taylor Greene has released a video on YouTube, where she says, “If I had it my way, we would have been successful in our [sic] objection on January 6, and [Joe Biden] wouldn’t even be president.”

That is the same woman, who claimed the violence on January 6 was started by federal agents disguised as insurrectionists. And now, she says, if “WE would have been successful… on January 6”.

I wonder what the US Justice Department does now.

@randahl @kristen_d it kinds fo sound like "in our objection" but it doesn’t make a lot of sense, maybe she caught herself late and barely avoided saying "insurrection", or maybe it’s something else, but that’s the best i can hear.

    This is absolutely priceless.

MAGA Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas has delayed her reply once more in the infamous case, where she allegedly tried to get Arkansas to pay USD 19,000 to her MAGA friend for a fake speaker’s lectern which was worth less than 1,000 dollars.

    Ben Meiselas has the story:

Instead of saying all Palestinians are Hamas, or all Israelis are Likud, listen to the people on both sides who want peace.

These days, the streets of Tel Aviv are filled with protests calling for Benjamin Netanyahu's resignation.

    I applaud them.

@Willie1foot @Lassielmr @randahl I suspect many just don't know anything about the war, let alone war crimes, just that it's ongoing, I recently read the words of an Israeli writer about how palestinians, in Gaza or otherwise, were simply never discussed by mosy people, much less publicly, they are a non-subject. If certainly helps a lot ignoring the war crimes.
